That Flip or Flop Nashville house was a mess. I liked what they were doing inside - except for that carpet - and then they showed them painting the exterior that bright blue. Yuck. Looking at the other houses on the street, it wasn't a bright color kind of neighborhood. But, again - someone bought it for asking price, so what do I know. At least they took out one of the five bedrooms and made bigger ones, unlike that other house where they made two dinky little rooms instead of one big bedroom. I cringed when I saw the paint color. It didn't fit in with the neighborhood. Why couldn't they have power washed the brick and left it at that and dressed the house up another way. Another no dining room house. Instead of making 2 bedrooms on the first floor enlarge the one to make more living dining space. They could have enlarged the master too by cutting out the extra bedroom. This couple make me scratch my head sometimes.

Flip or Flop Nashville Season 2 Episode 6 -Frankenhouse - February 7, 2019
I did not mind the blue paint on the house as I have watched Masters of Flip and they do these huge rebuilds and many of their homes in Nashville are very bright, bold colors. It is considered a thing in Nashville. Considering there was a definitely mismatch in some of the brick they had to paint it to bring cohesiveness to the house. I have noticed they will not do the massive addition and total reconfiguration that Masters of Flip do, that's OK, Deron and Page have their niche. However at times it does come across a bit cheap. On the back of the house the three sets of windows I saw were all different sizes and types. Lets face it the house is a mishmash of additions. This is one of the larger homes they have done, they gutted it and yet the floor plan sucks. I am sorry in a 2,000 sq ft home there needs to be a family room not a dinky some bonus room upstairs, which is really an office. I did find the floors a bit weird as they did a dark brown in the master bedroom and a lighter wood in the living/kitchen/dining. Didn't that dining room look almost twice as large as the living room. I personally would not spend that much money on that house. I would rather buy a better laid out house.
Didn't the kitchen seem off? I noticed there really wasn't that much cabinet space and I did't like that weird angled peninsula where the sink was. I did like the cabinet color, the countertops not so much as it looked as if they were going with lots of browns yet had the grey wall color.

They've used that blue exterior paint on about a half dozen projects so far. I think they bought 1000 gallons at a Behr clearance sale.

Hometown - really cute house with a weird layout (that they fixed). They kept it very traditional-looking on this one. Loved the courtyard and how they reused the granite sink cutout and old cabinets.
Windy City Rehab - again with the screeching and whining about a pre-rehab buyer. Someone offers you full price and you cry about it because you refuse to change your precious "design"? What. Ever. That range hood was hideous and I didn't see a bit of waterproofing while they were installing that shower, just cement board. Add another one to the "sit on it til spring" list because Princess just had to have it her way.

Yea a little change wouldn't have hurt her with a 1.4 mil offer on the table. Wonder when Donavon is going to get tired of her and split. That range hood wasn't the era of the house in my opinion. When do they insulate the outside walls I have never seen any done yet.

When a developer or homeowner put in a permit to do changes to their home all they are required to do is follow the building codes in the area. Alison and Donovan were given permission by the building authority several months ago when they submitted their plans for the house to think neighbors who happened to find out that an extension is going on the build can sign a petition of how many signatures and think it will stop the build after it has been approved and is going up are not being realistic. Anyone can complain about Alison and her show, as she is making a bit of a target of herself but lets be realistic. If her crew was tossing building materials around and it was dangerous to the neighbors call the police.

Those petitions can be helpful during the planning stages of a project, but NOT after the property has been purchased and the plans have been approved by the city. People will still try it with the petitions but the city mostly ignores them because 80% of the time they're either self-serving or extremely NIMBY.

Home Town - season 3, episode 5 - A Doctor in the House - February 11, 2019
per Google:
I do like that Erin and Ben are not totally gutting houses to the studs and then totally changing the flow to which it was unrecognizable. I do like that they try to improve the homes and by creating a hallway and then disguising the various ceiling heights with several arches that add architectural flare they can keep the original charm of the home and the reason the homeowners bought the house. It still amazes how far a dollar can go in Laurel, although if any of these homeowners leave they may not get that much for the house compared to other areas. Not sure I really enjoyed the layout of the kitchen before or after. The after did look better. Liked the cabinet's putty beige taupe color. The breakfast nook in the bay window was a great use of space. Not sure about the two tone colors of the doors leading onto the inner court yard. The courtyard will become the must sit out and gather area of the home.

Hometown: (I watched this episode again because I wasn't sure what I was seeing) A husband and wife picked this bizarre labyrinth-like house for Ben and Erin to remodel. I really liked the hallway that they put in to connect the different parts of the house and they fact that they reused some of the kitchen cabinetry and it looked good as new blended in with the other cabinets they bought. I have to admit my favorite part of the house was the exterior and the courtyard; such a wonderful place to relax, read, bbq, etc.

I have to admit my favorite part of the house was the exterior and the courtyard; such a wonderful place to relax, read, bbq, etc. It really was an interesting house. I had never seen any hallways added in such a way and have to admit I could not really visualize how it was going to look or even how it was going to be done. As I have said before, I do my HGTV viewing from 11 pm on and half of the time I fall asleep before the episodes are over, but this one kept me wide awake and wanting to see the final result. I agree with Bearcata too, about the arches. That was a nice touch! Laurel, Mississippi seems to have some beautiful older homes at bargain prices, but as a state it consistently ranks at the bottom of the barrel (education, economy, opportunity, etc). www.usnews.com/news/best-states/mississippi

The arches were nice!
Laurel seems like a beautiful little town and I give Ben and Erin props for trying to make it better, but I could never live there for all the reasons you mentioned, plus it's the South.

Flip or Flop Nashville season 2, episode 7 - Raise the Roof - February 14, 2019
A 1200 sq ft home with 3 bedrooms and 1 bath. There were additions. Just how small was the original house if this is several additions and still that small? And all the roof lines don't match. This is their niche market but at times I really hate these small houses with weird floor plans. For as much as this team loves to vault the ceilings they don't always change these floor plans, leaving a hallway and a weird access to the master. Shocker they actually built a master bathroom. When was the last time they did that?
Thankfully they had problems and the entire roof needed to be replaced and whoever painted the brick actually fully covered the brick.

Windy City Rehab - season 1, episode 7 - To Sell or Not to Sell - February 12, 2019
I wonder how much of the drama was staged. It takes time to get blue prints drafted. The potential buyer had to have had an architect draw them up and that is not an inexpensive thing to do. In one sense I do understand Alison and Donovan are flippers and not spec home builders. Alison is also doing this as a personal design project. Yes, her vision and ego are fully engaged on these homes. I can also see that Alison is in full blown project manager mode, they have a schedule to keep and obviously they have multiple projects going on therefore workmen are not always on the site Alison is on. It is obvious that doing this, plus her interior design business in Chicago and Las Vegas has her fully engaged. The entire scene with the potential buyer was painful, well really it was her interaction with Donovan that was. This team was already bitten hard by a couple who pre-bought and it held up the sale of the home. It was awkward watching the confessional about Alison and her designs. Does Alison or her producers or HGTV get how self centered and ego driven it comes across?
I am not sure I like the changes they did to the home. Raising roofline and putting a flat roof. I am sorry I hate flatroofs especially in a town that gets tons of snow that will just sit on a flat roof.
Hated, simply hated the front doors. Well, maybe not the actually black doors or the $2000 fake doorpulls. Hated the surround, the door frame, what ever you call it. It was not gilded, it did not match the doors. Hated, that there was no covered front porch, again in a city known for bad weather. Hated that the front door opened directly into the home with no foyer, it was very uncomfortable, it felt awkward. Did not like the facade of the house at all.
Who the heck are all these young couples that have all this money that they can afford to live in this town and buy million dollar homes?
This is only a 10 episode season, so there are only 3 episodes to go.

I absolutely hated everything about this week's episode of Windy City Rehab. You have a unattractive A-line house that instead of renovating it somewhere back to its former glory you hack it to bits and turn it into a garish McMansion that clashes with everything on the block for the extra money? AND it cost you twice has much to do? Ugh. The only thing I liked about this house was the old details they brought in (fireplace, etc). Absolutely HATED that garish, tacky front door and surround. I stopped paying attention to this halfway through, but didn't they have a buyer lined up? At the end, she said she was going to sit on it until spring...what happened? Could it be that the prospective owners wanted a nicely renovated A-line house (perhaps with dormers in the back for extra room on the second floor) and bailed once it became obvious she was making a monstrosity? Hmmm.

Alison is like everything is scheduled, all the finishes picked and ordered, any changes at this point affect the timeline. There must have been more changes as Alison and Donovan commented on it but the conversation about even more changes did not make it into the episode. Again I get it as they are flippers and not spec home builders.

Okay, I wouldn't want to be bothered with that mess either; if you want that that type of thing buy a house and then hire a contractor that will make the changes you want, don't try to buy a house that's already in the middle of being renovated. They just need to say no to presales period as they're nothing but a headache.

However even Donovan didn't realize the extent of the changes.

Home Town season 3, episode 6 - Episode 6 - February 18, 2019
A pair of young ladies, in their early twenties who are getting married need a house. I must say I luv'ed this house. I luv what Ben and Erin did to it, the color palette, the kitchen, the master bathroom. Erin went all out with pops of color sticking alot with dark rich velvet curtain, and various shades of blues on the walls. Luv'ed the light blue kitchen cabinets. Even liked the pop of wallpaper in the master bathroom. I did not even object to the touches of brass everywhere. This is a great first house for anyone.

Windy City Rehab season 1, episode 8 - Historic Pain or Economic Gain? - February 19, 2019
I liked what Alison and Donovan did with this house. I liked the facade, I liked the porch cover, nice touch adding those huge corbels, I liked the door. I was a bit confused that they did not install some kind of handrail on the front stairs. I though that would have been standard building code and that was a lot of stairs to the front door.
What Alison is good at is taking big spaces and adding finishes that look good. Almost a minimalistic feel. A huge floor made of wide planks of wood in a herringbone pattern, a huge stack of kitchen cabinets or bookcases around a fireplace. It is very evident in the bathrooms where she uses that marble hex tile on the bathroom and shower floor, it is a cohesive look, and every bathroom I have seen her do she used the same tile for the entire wall but it is ceiling to floor, not too busy but very striking that space.
I liked the radial staircase, very nice. I liked the kitchen cabinet color. The green looked very black on my TV screen. I did find it funny she had them remove the soffit. You would think her crew would know not to do that and it was too funny when she replaced with a filler piece that was not even a cabinet. I was surprised she used a tradition shape of vent hood I was thinking she would be sleeker in her design. I must say I luv'ed the room divider and those arched doors. It looked great. If they had used a sound proof glass it would have been even better as if the future homeowner had kids they could be in the same space but could do different activities in that space.
I do wish they had shown the garden and hopefully the new garage. I would have liked to seen the entire property. I also wish Alison would quit saying she is losing money. At the price point she exists, I don't care.
Two more episodes to go in the season and then the Fords. ARGH! I would rather watch Alison than the Fords.

It made me cringe when they called the guy who lived there a squatter when he had a lease. But, he got a chunk of money when they bought him out, so he probably laughed if he watched the show. I did like the staircase and front of the home, at least they put a cover over the front door this time. Not a fan of her $6000 range hood, nor of the glass room divider. I liked the old doors, but the divider itself did nothing for me. Bathroom was nice. Those cabinets looked black to me also, but she went on and on about her "bold color choices." I think her colors are pretty bland, IMO. And it was silly to complain about a soffit when you did nothing but use a filler instead of installing cabinets to the ceiling like she said she wanted. Who's buying these 2 million plus properties anyway? Geez. That place used to house two families, but now it's just a massive single family home. UGH to the Fords. Just the commercials make me roll my eyes. ETA: I forgot about the roasted wood bar down in the basement! I think it was awful, so were the cabinets behind it. I hope someone enjoys that burnt smell in their house.

Hometown: What an adorable couple! I was so glad Erin and Ben were able to help them. At first I was like "what?" when they picked the older house with significant exterior damage, but it had a cute interior, and that little seating area off the kitchen that they planned to use for their reading nook was very cute.
I loved everything they did to this house. I really liked that they used that silvery grayish white for the cabinets with the butcher block and light blue uppers. Erin's not afraid to play with color, and I thought it was really cute how they made pillows for the couches. All of the rooms looked inviting, and I'm glad that they screened in the porch again. The master bath was fantastic. The little house didn't have a lot of square footage, but it made up for it in style and was perfect for a couple starting their lives together.

Flip or Flop Nashville season 2, episode 8 - Basement or Bust - February 21, 2019
Well, they finally painted the house in enough paint that you couldn't see the brick. I actually liked what they did with the home. Still wish they had at least sealed the driveway so it looked better. I always do wonder where to put the TV as both the living room and and the basement family are staged as if no one watches.

Another big mess on Windy City Rehab last night. How did noone catch all the bad framing until it was done? What a waste of money. Alison yelling at Donovan for rescheduling appliances. Alison making smartass comments about those balls on the corbels. Alison patting herself on the back for those horrendous looking fake fireplaces she stuck in the rooms - seriously, why? Just so someone could stick candles in there? Then she spent $$ for nice tile to put behind the fireplace that you couldn't even see because she used white grout and it all blended into the white walls.
And I hated her "modern, edgy" cabinets. The bathrooms were pretty, but again, nobody taped the seams or waterproofed that cement board. Sloppy work.
Bleah.
