Another big mess on Windy City Rehab last night. How did noone catch all the bad framing until it was done? What a waste of money. Alison yelling at Donovan for rescheduling appliances. Alison making smartass comments about those balls on the corbels. Alison patting herself on the back for those horrendous looking fake fireplaces she stuck in the rooms - seriously, why? Just so someone could stick candles in there? Then she spent $$ for nice tile to put behind the fireplace that you couldn't even see because she used white grout and it all blended into the white walls. And I hated her "modern, edgy" cabinets. The bathrooms were pretty, but again, nobody taped the seams or waterproofed that cement board. Sloppy work. Bleah. You said all I wanted to say. This team is a rehab disaster. I mean really you weren't on site seeing that they were screwing up. The cabinets were ugly, the fireplaces were fake and the amount of money she spends on some of this stuff is stupid. Alison is a major smartelic. I was thinking last night how does anyone work with her.

Home Town this week - what an adorable house! The exterior looked more gray than sage green to me, but either way, it was a huge improvement over what was there. And I've never seen vinyl flooring with a pattern like that, not bad! It made sense to use it in the studio that would end up with paint spills. Flip or Flop Nashville - another one with a messy addition on the back. Nice, classic colors - white, black, navy - and even a freshly poured driveway. I thought the black and white bathrooms were just gorgeous, especially the larger one. The loft area wasn't huge, but it was usable.

Best House on the Block (Meet Your New Master) The blue tile pattern was so busy. That would drive me nuts. I also don't like the idea of painting a rug on the floor. I would not have these people designing my home.

I haven't ever seen any like that either. Flip or Flop Nashville. I thought the black trim and doors was way too much for the house. It seemed to over power it to me. They did a good job just too much black. Those old houses have so many issues. I can't believe the prices they pay for them because where I live you could get that same house in that condition for 60-70 thousand or maybe less depending how bad they need to sell.

Home Town - season 3, episode 7 Home is Where the Art Is - February 25, 2019 I think Ben and Erin have shown this house before to another couple as it seems as if I have seen it before. Regardless, I liked what they did with it. The beams in the main living room and kitchen looked weird to me. This is a 3,000 sq ft home and those beams really made the living room and kitchen kinda claustrophobic. I do like their solution to the problem and I like how they were able to move one on the beams in the living room out of there. I liked how they were able to open up the kitchen and I liked the quilt looking backsplash. As for the ladies art studio, good for them using a patterned linoleum and explaining how it was the perfect type of flooring for what the space would be used for. I did wish that they had shown how the rest of the house looked like. The pink hard hat for Helen was too cute. Did you know Ray Walston (My Favorite Martian, South Pacific) Leontyne Price (First African American in the Metropolitan Opera), and Lance Bass (NSYNC) were all born in Laurel?

Windy City Rehab season 1, episode 9 - Fire Sale Fail to Dream Duplex - February 26, 2019
I was really enjoying this episode, I do like it when Donovan narrates a portion of the episode, it balances out Alison's intensity. I do get that they are working on multiple projects and the are all quite large and take any where from 3 to 4 months to 6 months to complete. Stuff gets missed. I was really surprised that Alison didn't explode over the bad framing job. I didn't get quiet what happened, something about the framing plans not followed and the wrong type of joist used. Really didn't see much difference from the outside but Donovan stated that it would really have messed up the basement ceiling height. Oh well. I liked that they were able to keep the facade of the home but didn't quiet get how they split the entrances of the homes with one going down and the other going up. The 3D floor plans they use didn't really show it. I liked Alison's antique finds was not sure how she was going to use them. When she installed the pier mirrors at first and start to antique them I was like. "eek" but afterwards in the reveal I did like how they looked and they gave a focal point to the room. That is why I thought adding the fireplace in the one living room was a waste of time and materials. I did think the addition of a fake fireplace the upper unit in the family room was a better look but if I was a buyer I really don't want fake fire places with tile behind them. I really did like what she did putting the refrigerators where she did and the pier mirrors behind them, although it seemed it did contradict her normal lets open everything to the eyesight concept she loves to do. I enjoyed what she did with the kitchen cabinets and layouts. It did not offend. I do think her powder rooms and bathrooms while looking very simple are elegant and speak luxury. The only kinda dumb moment for me in this episode was the Alison snit over the appliances. It seemed dumb and I wonder it the producers staged it for what they thought was a bit of drama. I don't think we really need that with these two.
I thought cutting those balls off the corbels was not necessary they looked find either way.

Flip or Flop Nashville episode (season 2, episode 9 - The Renovation Shuffle - February 28, 2019
One of their better efforts and it was a 1,700 sq ft home so I guess that helps. This house was a mess with all the weird little additions, many of them of the unpermitted amateur kind. The front was a mess and I didn't like the angles. With them basically gutting the house I was surprised that they didn't change the layout a bit more as it comes across they are so concerned about adding bedrooms (as that means more money) that they end up with some weird layouts. In this case the kitchen. The hallway side wall couldn't come down? The L shaped bedroom in the back, the office bedroom which seemed very small. The loft was nice. The roof line of this house was horrendous, I would never buy this house as it was structural mess. However I do think their overall black and white theme in the kitchen, and bathrooms worked.
I do think this was one of their better efforts.
Luv'ed Paige's 1950's inspired lace dress.

Hometown: Being a creative myself I was very interested in what Ben and Erin would do for a fellow creative and they did not disappoint. I was glad that they looked at places that had a room that could be used as a decent studio space because next to our living spaces the studio is most important. At first I was on the fence about the loud black and white pattern for the backsplash in the kitchen, but it looked wonderful and broke up all the white used in the space and the jadeite knobs and pulls for the cabinets and drawers were a nice touch. I ended up loving the kitchen, and the living room looked homey as well.
I liked the studio space as well and was glad they had a running water source for the room; when you're painting water is very important and you don't want to be running to other rooms to mix things/rinse out brushes/etc. The sink was kinda dirty when they installed it but I was glad to see someone cleaned it up for the reveal and it looked great. The reused kitchen cabinet they installed in the space was needed, as well as the drying racks. Overall, they did a very good job on the house.

Home Town - another adorable cottage! That whole street was full of pretty little houses. They kept it light, airy, and neutral...the homeowner seemed to love it. I liked the little bench they made out of two chairs, and also the desk Ben made with wood that had some history. Very pretty kitchen. What I like about these two is they renovate these old houses without making them look too modern - I can tell it's still an "old" house, it's been updated but still retains its charm. Which brings me to...
Windy City Rehab - she took a really cool Civil War era home and made the inside into another soulless white box. Whee. Same basic kitchen - a bank of cabinets on one wall with an ugly range hood, and a long island with seating. Can't even remember the flooring she used. Plop another oversized pier mirror on a wall, throw in a few French antiques (?!) from her favorite store, and sell it for 1.3 mil. Sigh. At least the exterior was nice, I suppose.

Home Town episode - season 3, episode 8 - Sweet Home Laurel - March 4, 2019
I liked the cottage remodel, I too pick house number one as it had 2,000 sq ft. I was surprised that they did not put in another bathroom or at least a powder room as the house was big enough for one.
I luv'ed the kitchen, especially the tile back splash that went from the counter to the ceiling. Luv'ed the hood vent absolutely luv'ed it and it didn't need one of Erin's pictures, just saying. The brass sconces were the perfect touch. Liked how they tried to trim the budget and the luxury vinyl tile in the kitchen looked great. All the floors in my house need to be replaced and luxury vinyl is becoming such a good option as it looks good, you can wet it, and it is less expensive then tile or wood. The hexagon floor tile in the bathroom was another nice touch.
What really ticked me off in this episode was Ebonee's mother. Ebonee had a budget of $100,000. She need to fixer upper for herself. Kitchens and bathrooms are the most expensive rooms in a house. A house built in the 30's, 40's, 50's and on will need to have the plumbing and wiring updated. Everytime Ebonee's mom would say "that's expensive" I would scream, it is a $32,000 house and it needs $8,000 in foundation work, it is that much. The woman really got on my nerves. Do the math both houses with a renovation would be at your daughter's budget, get over it.

Windy City Rehab - season 1, episode 10 - Roof-Raising Race for Space - March 5, 2019
I liked this episode. Alison was nice and charming. There was no yelling. No "show me the money". No crisis where she would yell at Donovan. Both Alison and Donovan do well with the narration. I liked the facade of the home but one A frame house starts to looks just like the next A frame house. Donovan and Alison have a successful business model that works for them. They find a A frame house that they can dig in the basement to get 9 or 10 ft ceilings. They see if they can put on an addition on the back or an extra floor. They do an open concept as that is what today's buyer seems to like. They do keep the historical facades of the homes but modernize the interiors. Alison does keep the finishes simple, but they are high end. The simple finishes allow for a variety of folks to put their furniture in a home and it look OK. I luv her bathrooms the are hotel spa fabulous. I did like the dark blue color of the kitchen cabinets and on a closer look the penny rounds of the backsplash are both blue and copper colored and really mesh well with the brass hood vent and the kitchen cabinets. The stove was a piece of art. I really liked the tile she used behind the basement wet bar.
This was one of the better or best episodes of the series.

Flip or Flop Nashville - season 2, episode 10 - Colonial Critters - March 7, 2019
This is a first, a colony of raccoons were in the house. The mind boggles. The house must have been abandoned for some time for this to happen.
I luv'ed the lot size it was fabulous, too bad there was no garage.
I did like the makeover and this was the first time I have seen this couple actually downsize from more bedrooms to fewer. But I guess in the 'burbs they don't want to be that cramped in a house. I was surprised that they didn't paint the inside of the screened porch were it was green and I was surprised they didn't paint all of the floor. I mean you have exposed plywood, the blue of the house, old barn red on the floor, a sagey green on the posts, then you add white and blue?
My pet peeve is you spend all this on a house tack on another $60,000 in profit and you don't fix the big crack in the front walkway, or pressure wash it or coat it. If I am paying that kind of money I want a new concrete walkway or at least fix the big cracks.

I notice a lot of little crappy details on their flips - sloppy paint, yellowed switch plates, dirty concrete...I wonder if any of that gets fixed before the actual sale. I sort of wish they'd kept that house a sage green and done cedar trim. The blue looked too close to the shingle color to me. Mina was tweeting that they're wrapping up their filming, so we'll be getting new Good Bones shows soon.

Hometown: Last week and this week's episodes featured women at different stages of their lives buying a home for themselves, and Ben and Erin made perfect renos for them. Last weeek was for a young lady buying her first house, while this week's episode featured an older woman coming back to Laurel to settle down after a lengthy period away. Both renos hit that sweet spot of being undeniably feminine without being overwelmingly so, and had wonderful, airy sitting rooms and kitchens. I love the ensuite in last night's episode and the green exterior. Both houses were perfectly suited for the ladies, and they both looked extremely happy.

Agree on this week's Hometown. I'm glad she changed to that green color, I wasn't a fan of the gold/yellow she had originally picked out. Just another pretty little house.
Windy City was a repeat, so I don't know why it was shown as new on my cable listings. A couple minutes of "never before seen footage!" doesn't make it new. Pff.
I'm torn on watching the Fords again. I wasn't impressed last season and the commercial they keep showing of her hanging a flipping disco ball in some house isn't making me want to watch...

This was the original pilot episode that aired 7/5/2017. It was so nice to see Allison not get mad at anyone and be calm even though her $535,000 home just collapsed into a heap of bricks. Makes me wonder if the blowups are scripted for dramatic flare?

Home Town - season 3, episode 9 - An Old Familiar Place - An Old Familiar Place
What I do like about Home Town is the variety of clients and that they will do homes that are not 3 bedrooms and two baths. They have done several homes that are two bedroom and one bath, at least 3 this year, with a single lady (Ebonee), the young married couple with pops of color, and now this weeks. I think I am going to call Erin's style vintage, cause sometimes I want to call it grandma. I was surprised about everyone keeping the old windows as they are so NOT energy efficient. I do experience very cold winters and hot summers and having installed new windows it is amazing the difference. I do appreciate what Erin and Ben can do in a small space. Not sure about all the green but I do think it was better then the original harvest gold Erin wanted to do on the siding. I was surprised to see no garage or car port as it gets hot in Mississippi and don't folks want to protect their cars?

Windy City Rehab - season 1, episode 11 - Bucktown Rebuild - original air date as a pilot July 5, 2017 - as part of season one - air date was March 12, 2019
Considering the house collapsed, there was a stop work order, really bad social media, and a additional $70,000 in permits to redraw the house plans because instead of a renovation it was now a rebuild both Allison and Donovan were so calm I almost did not recognize them. At least we didn't see much of Allison's brass fetish.

I don't know why they think we want to see that. Also, I saw on Twitter that someone walked by that house on Leavitt that supposedly sold in an "off-market deal" for 1.3 million...and it was still being worked on, not lived in. Records showed that it last sold in 2018 for 560K. Why does HGTV lie to us?

Flip or Flop Nashville - what a nasty little house they bought. Full of filth, cat fur, and an awesome bookcase made of duct tape and cardboard (?!). I don't know if I'm more amazed that someone lived in that mess, or that they paid 80K for it. I could get that house here for about 25K. Maybe less. Turned out okay, but it was so small I suppose there wasn't much to be done with the layout. I didn't love the porch railings (couldn't they have taken the time to do something prettier, like Chippendale railings?), and while I'm happy they saved the clawfoot tub, I didn't really like the set up in that bathroom, it looked awkward. But again, there was no space to separate the tub and shower.

They didn't show if the retaining wall had been rebuilt. I hated the railing, it needed to be made of thinner slats. I hated, hated what the did with the bathroom it made no sense to put in this HUGE shower and then put a bath tub in the middle of it. I did notice that the counter tops were all laminate that looks like granite.

I know she wanted to save the clawfoot tub but she could have used it for another project that had room for it. The railing was over powering for the porch. That was a nasty house......ugh.

I do think Paige could have save that tub for another project or and done a regular bath and shower and maybe even enough space left over for a powder room and stackable laundry. This is one of the houses they actually changed the footprint and still they mess it up. For a house that size I would have put in a eat in kitchen, a peninsula or something instead of having a formal dining area, the extra space could be used for an extra bathroom or powder room or something. This couple always has weird space planning.
