Ha, I thought all the same things about that condo on Flip or Flop last night. How could you sit under that open shelving/cubbies and not knock your head on them? Some closed cabinets higher up or a few open shelves would have been just fine. The grey/green/gold was nice, but she went overboard with the scalloped tile in the bathroom. Too much is never enough with Aubrey, though. Too many light fixtures, and that horrid mirror on the fireplace needed to go away. I did love the kitchen backsplash tile. I'm glad she didn't wallpaper the ceiling in that bedroom, too. One wall was plenty. A lot of the time her glam is gaudy to me. I agree with the bookshelf. It was crowded and cluttery to me. I am glad Bristol said no to the ceiling wallpaper.

Home Town season 3, episode 12 - Putting Down Roots - April 1, 2019
I do wish we had seen what they had down in the front rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms instead of just the kitchen, family room, and sunroom. I do like to see the entire house. I did note that the decorating style seemed very traditional, almost grandma. They had a huge amount of space in the family room but they way Erin decorated it seemed small vs the what seemed a much bigger sunroom. I was surprised how much space was added to the kitchen by removing the hall. I did think they should have extended the front walkway with concrete as they were way under budget and it looked cheap and not that well done from the angle they filmed it.

One of a Kind: Season 1 Episode 3 - A Storied Style - April 03, 2019
Amazing what taking down part of a stone fireplace can do to open up a home. I like what Grace did opening up the floor plan, adding built ins in the living room. Painting the brick and the ceiling just opened that room. Not sure I liked the blue gingham wall paper, not to my taste but the homeowners must have OK'ed it. Luv'ed the green tile backsplash in the kitchen looked absolutely fantastic. The pale blue cabinets looked white on my TV screen. The kitchen triangle looked weird to me though. Updating the outside, especially the entry way was nice. Luv'ed the windmill ceiling fan, great touch that is something she found broken on the family's land and was able to rebuild it and make a great feature of it.

Flip or Flop Vegas - season 3, episode 4 - Vegas Beach House
Liked the front of the house, taking down the wall on the front patio, painting all the stucco a light grey, the blue shutters and door, and new stone paver front porch and car port door, good job. Liked the new tile on the pool rim, painting the stucco, new landscaping clean up the sundeck all looked good. Inside the house, the two bathrooms looked good as did the bedrooms. Liked the bunk bed in the one bedroom. The main floor, opening that wall between the kitchen and living room was a good idea and refreshed the entire house, and opened the flow without taking away from kitchen storage. Adding the seating area to the new peninsula was great. While I liked the beach theme, the beachy wood tile floor, there was a bit of a problem with all the wood tones. You need to eliminate all the staging and take a good look at the house. NONE of the wood tones in the floor, the ceiling, or around the peninsula, beam, fireplace mantel, and kitchen hood played off each other.
The proportion of the fireplace mantel was off to me.
I could care less about the wood on the ceiling.
I thought wrapping the column and beam and peninsula in the kitchen was a good idea but the stain color was not. The pine would have looked better white washed or how about instead of using pine clad the area in shiplap, and left either white or some tonal color to play off the floor. If they had done that and wanted to do the wood ceiling it would have looked better. That or faux beams.

^ That's a nice interview. Glad he's in a good place and is cancer-free. I had heard about the thyroid cancer but not the testicular cancer. My heavens, he had a lot to deal with!
Watched Home Town episode last night with homeowner Judy and her adult son who was in graduate school and planning on living with her. I didn't quite catch what her connection was to Laurel as she did not live there but worked there apparently. And at the end the mayor gave her the key to the town and said she was instrumental in bringing Laurel back. So I guess the town/city had been in some sort of decline and is now on an upswing?
Heavens but the prices are so darn cheap there. She had an all in budget of $125,000 but they went a few thousand over. She chose this darling bungalow cottage style home. I absolutely loved the look of it from the exterior. She was adamant about not wanting a red front door for some reason and Erin acquiesced. I thought the original white exterior was fine but Erin chose to paint it blue. I'm not against color on homes but I tend to favor more neutrals like whites and grays and even the dreaded beige. From the outside I had no idea the home was as large as it was...1700 square feet. Not that that is a huge house, but from the outside it looked tiny. I loved everything Erin did to the home and that was a cool art installation of the piano 'guts' that Ben framed and hung on the wall. I was underwhelmed by the stained glass window. My f.i.l. has done many stained glass pieces over the years much nicer, imo. LOL One thing that I was curious about but was never addressed, was what was the condition of the accessory cottage in the back that the son was going to live in? They never showed it or mentioned it. I hope it wasn't in as bad a shape as the original home was. The son had a beautiful operatic voice from the minute or two we heard him sing. Oh, and the gymnasium bleachers! How cool to repurpose them for a bench but ewww to all that gum!

I thought the outside color made the house pop even though it wouldn't have been my choice. I'm a neutral person also. Did Ben get someone new working with him instead of his brother?

Hometown: I started watching it from after the homeowner saw the second house so I'm not sure which one she picked? Anyway, it was a nice ending to the season. I love color in a house so of course I loved the blue and white paint outside and the elongated bookshelves that now reached the ceiling on either side of the fireplace in the living room. The music room, was a great idea and I loved the art installation in it. Kitchen was small, but the blue cabinets and the repurposed bench was sweet. Loved the master bath with the stained glass window; the pattern the glassmaker chose was very unique and it looked at home in the shower. Overall, a great look.
One of a Kind: This is very much an "acquired taste" show, and I'm saying this as a lover of odd things in a house. The spoons on the wall combined with the spoon wallpaper on the ceiling and the other walls was ooverkill (pick one, not both!) but I really liked the pulls on the kitchen cabinets and the homeowner was thrilled to pieces with all of it, including that agate table and the constellation ceiling, and that's all that matters. I think the fun in this show is seeing what people like to put in their houses, so it's okay if you don't particularly like it because everything is so personalized.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but not something I would want done especially since she hot glued them to the wall. Big mess when taken down. This was a quirky couple so I could see it working for them. The wallpaper going up the stairs was horrible and the problem with doing odd stuff is when it comes time to resell the house. The light fixture in the dining room was quirky also and not something a lot of people would want. As you said this is an acquired taste show.

Hot glued spoons on a wall? I was thinking about checking that show out, but...maybe not. Loved the Hometown finale. I didn't mind the blue on the outside, it suited that house and the neighborhood (and the red-door hating owner ). I thought the stained glass window in the bath was pretty, but I absolutely hated all the drapery she hung around the tub. Personal preference, but I just don't like heavy drapes anywhere. The blue cabinets in the kitchen were pretty, and the music room was a nice addition for her. I wish we'd heard more of the son singing, he sounded pretty good from the three seconds we got to hear!

Restored by the Fords- I actually thought she did a good job on the house last night. The only thing negative was she didn't scrape and sand down the doors that went out to the back yard. They looked bad to me up close. In real life she would drive me nuts. I like Steve.

Home Town Season 3 finale.
Home Town season 3, episode 13 - Moving to Main Street - April 8, 2019
Judi Holifield has been the Director of Luarel Main Street for 10 years. She helped revitalize down town Laurel. The cottage picked is 1700 sq ft, 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom.
Erin and Ben added a combination powder room laundry room added off the mud room at the back of the house. The second bedroom was transformed into a music room.
Overall I liked what they did with the house. I liked the siding color, but it could have been almost any shade and looked good. The siding needed some other color than white to show of the columns and all the dental molding.
The inside was very much Erin's traditional style with muted dark colors, lots of patterns, lots of little pops of color. I think it will be very comfortable for Judi, with or without company. I do wish they would have shown the attic, if they finished it off or not. I was also curious to see what they did in the backyard. It looked as if they had an alley way with a garage back there and an attached workshop that was Allen's intended space.
Erin and Ben did add a lot of storage with the two floor to ceiling bookcases by the fireplace and the two huge floor to ceiling cabinets in the music room.
Liked the tile back splash in the kitchen, it was nice and subtle. If you are showing me the master bathroom, show me the master closet. I know some fellow posters did not like the stained glass window in the shower stall, but I think it was more about the memories of Judi's and her husband Niel's friendship with Tom Witt who made it. The way the beveled glass refracted the light in that bathroom was very nice. It was nice to see Judi receive the key to the city for all of her hard work in revitalizing Laurel.
I do like that they try to find a house to fit the person and their lifestyle and not put on additions. I like that many clients were single people in different stages of their lives and that single people do deserve their own homes and that this show does not only do homes for families that want open concept and entertain a lot. Seriously, at times I though HGTV only had one demographic. Overall a very satisfying ending to the season.

One of a Kind episode (season 1, episode 4) - Rock Star Ceiling - April 8, 2019
I did like that they did not replace the parquet floors, just sanded them and stained them to a more neutral beachy (sand) look. I wondered what they did with one room off the foyer as you could see there was no furniture in it. I liked the new blue doorway and new entry lights, Grace added one so there were two. I do like that Grace tries to incorporate the story of the family into the home with out going over the top. The new dining room (the former sitting room) ceiling was a nice touch. It was better than blue and white gingham wallpaper like last week's episode. Amazing how much better the kitchen worked. Liked the tile but did anyone notice those high end appliances? The glacier white frig and dishwasher, the blue stove? Fabulous.
The dining room turned into the party pantry. At first I was worried about the spoons on the walls. But considering it was a relatively small space that was the place to do funky and it was enclosed and a bit out of the way. So it could be quirky and fun and a conversation starter and you don't have to look at it everyday all the time. Even if these folks decide to sell the house at some point the party pantry would be easy to make sellable, remove the wallpaper and the 65 utensils or lead a couple of them up on the counter back splashes.
Since this was such a huge remodel with 7 walls moved I wish they had done a before and after floorplan to see how it had really changed.
Next week I think this show is on Tuesday night at 10pm.

The spoons on the wall sound a bit farfetched and they have been showing the walls in the montage at the beginning of the show but it is not that bad in the context of only being on the pantry walls, there sight lines to that area are limited and there are only 65 pieces. If you want a fun, quirky room, then it is a fun, quirky room. In one sense the wallpaper on the ceiling of super giant size utensils is worst.

I liked the spoons on the walls. The spoon wallpaper on the ceiling was nice too. What I didn't like was the combination of both of those things; it completely overpowered the room while if she had picked one of those two things to utilize it would have looked cute.
The kitchen was really nice. Loved the stove, but I was too busy looking at the lovely cabinet handles and pulls. They looked great in that space.

Mom & Me - and HGTV pilot aired two half hour episodes this week. Done in Oregon. www.hgtv.com/shows/mom-and-meLike the mom and son duo. Tristan just turned 21. Season 1 Episode 1 - Goodbye '70s - April 9, 2019 Amazing taking down a partial wall between the living room and kitchen and changing some finishes just transformed this house. I like that they are comfortable with using luxury vinyl in the bathrooms and luxury vinyl planks on the main floor of the house. The master bedroom and bathroom were also amazing but I do think for a master closet as large as the one they had they really skimped on the closet organizers. $110,000 to redo the entire house. Season 1 Episode 2 - Midcentury Mod - April 9, 2019 It was nice to see a couple that already had agreed what style they liked and were on board with what they wanted done. The house looked 3 times as large after the renovation with a mix of mid century modern and todays open concept.

Well shoot, I went to HGTV's site to watch that Mom & Me show but they don't have it up. I'll have to see if those clowns at Spectrum have it On Demand. I didn't hate the little condo they did on Flip or Flop Vegas last night, but it did seem like a touch too much gray. Even with the lime green and bright blue things they added in staging, it just felt a bit dreary. And where did she find all those RTA cabinets for $1100? Wow. One idea that needed to go in the trash bin was that neon sign over the bed. If I walked into a guy's house and saw a "Lucky" neon sign over the bed, I'd walk right back out

Flip or Flop Vegas season 3, episode 5 - Lucky in Vegas - April 11, 2019
Wow, I actually liked the condo they did last night. Was it a tad too dark? Yes, but overall I liked the cabinets, the bathroom was really nice as was the kitchen. The nook with the desk was a vast improvement over what had been there as was the tv built in. I did think it a bit strange that they did not put in recessed lighting in the desk nook area as that is what was needed there. It's not as if they don't spend tons of money on lighting. In fact even the lighting didn't offend as it usually did. Maybe the entire apartment was so dark it was hard to see the fixtures. I did think the kitchen a vast improvement over what had been there. Liked that the reduced that soffits that made the place seem less claustrophobic. I luv'ed the headboard/feature wall they did. Why oh why did they ruin it by putting up that Lucky sign? However that bit of tacky was a vast improvement over what Aubry normally does.

Well that's just a tad dramatic. Why did they go ahead and buy the house if the things their inspector found weren't fixed?
That said, Bristol and Aubrey better watch the quality of their work. Dryer vents going into the attic? Come on, guys. Even if Bristol isn't a licensed contractor, I'm sure the crews they use are licensed and pull permits. I hope so, anyway.

I think it was more that the home inspectator gave them a list of things and the expectation they would be fixed by the time they moved in. I know I have to tour my house with the builders I think before the final signing of the paperwork, but I didn't check water pressure, I didn't check the hot water etc... sides you have up to a year to get stuff fixed. Well that is in a new build I don't know how that works in an older home, or in a flip. I was in my house for a year or two before a handy man I had doing some fix-its mentioned that one of the basement windows was not nailed into place that you could just pull it out of the frame. Later I found a gap in the foundation in the garage. You don't always see stuff until way after. Lets not even talk about the front porch columns that didn't have any 2x4's inside the casings.
