Boise Boys: They had their two usual houses to choose from, one being a totally free (!) 6-7 bedroom Craftsman charmer on stilts that still had a lot of its original charm. As tempting as that one was I can understand why they would pass on it; too much money to put into it and too much uncertainty. That would really be a great house for someone to buy to live in themselves, not flipping. With that said, the 1950s farmhouse they chose was nothing to sneeze at. It had beautiful bones, a huge backyard, and a lovely enormous willow tree. The guys pay just as much attention to detail on the outside of the house as they do on the inside, and the flowerboxes in the windows and treehouse were really cute. Loved the old church pews they used for the banquet, and while the kitchen was on the small size it was well designed and cozy. The living room looked like a great place to curl up with friends, and the master bedroom was really cute as well. They often have people come to view the house twice- once when it's gutted and under construction and again when it is finished, and while most of the time they buy the house (like the couple who was into geodes and Luke's wife's friend who was planning on adopting last season) sometimes they don't. In this couple's case, while they liked the house a lot it was too far away from the wife's job and too small a house for a family of 5. The wife also said in particular that she wanted a kitchen to entertain in but that kitchen was much too small. It worked out though, because a couple of weeks later they got an offer for it 10k over asking. It's a lovely starter house, and I'm glad it got an offer. It was 1800 sq ft 3 bedrooms and 2 baths on a really large fenced in corner lot. They had two kid and one on the way, it was a good size for a young family. Their two girls would have shared that one room. I do think location wise was not good for the family. I did not take these folks as serious shoppers anyway just folks they knew who they could script into the show.

The lot was really big, but I thought it was a 1400 sq ft home. That additional 400 ft makes a world of difference. Perhaps the distance from the wife's job made a difference.

Boise Boys: They had a pick of two small homes; a 900 sq ft 2 bedroom home in Boise's historical district, and a 1000 sq ft 3 bedroom in an up and coming neighborhood. For once, Clint is the one who is the cheerleader for the historic home despite the fact that there's not much they could do to change the exterior or expand it to make it bigger. What's more, is he wants to put a master bed and bath where the kitchen was currently located and use half of the already small living room for a new kitchen. Luke is not down with any of this until Clint eventually explains that they could get more money for a three-bedroom 2 bath in the historic district than the other house.
It was probably a good thing that a single person was looking at this house because I really don't think that a family with more than one child would fit. When they finished the reno even though the kitchen was adorable the combination of the kitchen/living room was much too tiny; it made me wince to look at it and think of more than three people sitting in that room at the same time. The exterior of the house was gorgeous with the cobalt blue paint job and white detailing; it made the house look new and fresh. What the Boise Boys excel at is in the details and I LOVED that nook with all the wooden objects hanging in it. The bedroom converted into an office was the right usage for that room since it too was on the small side. In contrast, both the guest and master baths looked roomy and inviting.
No surprises here, it was a case of the right house finding the right owner and the woman who followed the process from the very beginning was the one to buy the house. It was perfect for her as she had parents who liked to visit her and she could accommodate them, plus there was plenty of room for one person.

It was small and crowded to me. I wonder if the lady that bought it intends to rent it out when her parents aren't there. Maybe an AirBnB.

Once again my recording cut right at the purchase reveal. I had a feeling, though, that the cake-lady would buy it. Besides having room to house visiting family, her son was a worker on the job, so she already had an investment in it.
They didn't show the third bedroom, which was probably as tiny as the office/bedroom. Both bathrooms looked large and well designed. I loved that they were allowed to place that high block window in the master bath to bring in light yet have privacy. As far as the outside, it looked like a decent size backyard with a garage set at the back of the space. I always wonder why people who live in snow country don't have garages closer to the house. I lived in a now historic town and to get to our garage you had to cross the yard, then an alley, then another path along the garden fence to reach the garage. We never used it, but parked our car right next to the fence on the alley. There was digging out during winter, but thank goodness we could walk to the general store for supplies.
I really like how these two bring stability to the houses they reno.

Still waiting for Spectrum to put Boise Boys up On Demand so I can watch. x 100. Flip or Flop Vegas - that first house was overstaged again, and the pink tile bathroom and gold everything was awful. I did love those faded blue tiles she used in the kitchen and the one bathroom. But the rest of it? Nah. The second house was nicer, maybe a little overboard on all the blue but it wasn't obnoxious. She does love some large, in-your-face light fixtures. Apparently that was the season finale, too.

Good news! Boise Boys did so good in ratings for the first two episodes this season that HGTV is testing them out at a new time slot starting next Wednesday at 10:00e/9:00c right after Property Brothers! It's very important to watch because it's a test time and they need the views to stay there.

One of a Kind season 1, episode 7 - Amazing Grace - April 29, 2019
Amazing what taking down a wall on one side of a fireplace does to open the flow between the living and dining room. Also Grace widen the kitchen about 4 to 5 feet taking space out of a rear entrance/mudroom/laundry area. She also moved a door to the family bedrooms from the dining room down to the living room.
Liked the blue and white color palette. Liked that she used several shades of blue.
Luv'ed the blue kitchen cabinets, luv'ed the white beveled subway tile and the copper light and vent hood. I am not a fan of copper, and HGTV is trying to say people are over subway tile and copper. HA, I say. Subway tile is a classic, the proportions just work. In this case the folks favored a coastal theme and it worked.
Liked, that they took a family dining set and stripped the varnish and stain. The natural wood looked great. I don't think they needed to whitewash the table.
I liked they removed the French doors off the entrance from the living room to the dining room and put them on the playroom.
Liked the white letters "hope" on the fireplace. Not too much.
Was not a fan of the plates on the fireplace, the dining room wallpaper was OK. I could leave it. I thought she was nuts to put wallpaper on the ceiling, and I didn't like the pattern. However it did look like a tin ceiling or some kind of patterned tile so it looked OK.
Liked that such simple touches as new railing and shutters in a turquoise blue in addition to putting the same color on the houses siding vs the white brick and a little landscaping refreshed the house.

Boise Boys (season 1, episode 2) Ugly Duckling Craftsman Transformed - May 2, 2019
I do think it was a shame the historical society or regulations would not allow for an addition. I think an expanded master suite would have been great. While they did a wonderful job on the house I personally thing 3 bedrooms and 2 baths is very tight in that space (900 sq f). I like they were consistent in their finish choices. Lov'ed the wood floor. Luv'ed the tile, was it a grey, a greige, a beige it was hard to tell but with the black handles, lights, and faucets it was a winner.

This is so weird. They move Boise Boys back an hour on the same night and my DVR doesn't recognize it. I tried to re-set the series to record and nothing. It did accept one time record so I did that. ETA: The next Wednesday they go back to 11 P according to my DVR. Unless, of course, they decide 10 P is a better fit, then I'll have to work it out...oh, tech world problems.

Flip or Flop Vegas (season 3, episode 9) Townhouse Redux - May 2, 2019
I do appreciate that Bristol and Aubrey do a good job on the smaller townhouses and condos. They understand their customer and do go crazy over the top the nearer they are to the strip. Remember the purple kitchen? I do not always like or appreciate Aubrey's aesthetic, and hate her over use of huge lighting fixtures but she is a budget shopper and is not afraid of color. I was concerned that the blue, pink, and gold color palette would be too much. I think the pink master seemed to be a bit of a disaster. The master bedroom would have been perfectly fine with NO PINK accent wall. The pink comforter was OK, nix the pink curtains and some other pink accents and the room is acceptable as it is move in ready and the new owner can use their own color pop without repainting a wall. I have to again give Aubrey credit for going over the top with her tile choices. The 3D hexagon was the boldest part and hopefully looks better live than on TV. If the shower curtain, towels and other accessories were predominantly white, gold, and baby blush pink the shower would have looked classy instead of slightly trashy.
Overall they put in better finishes and made the townhouse move in ready. They did a major improvement with the staircase, moving the powderroom door to the living room, adding two sinks to one of the bathrooms, and extending the kitchen cabinets therefore getting more counterspace. The white shaker cabinets looked great especially extending up to the ceiling. Did you really need a chandelier over the kitchen sink? No but I have seen worse. The tile on the stair case risers as well as the fireplace was fun. If you take out the pink color in all the staging and put in a nice leather sofa, and more neutral color tones on other furniture, the living/dining space looks huge. The house had great natural light and with a brand new kitchen, and bathrooms I am not surprised it sold quickly. I can see a young professional, a older female, a young couple, or a single parent with a kid buying this house. The outside of the townhouse was not much, drab in fact, but they didn't have to spend any money on the exterior and anyone coming in would have a huge surprise. That house is an A HA moment.

It didn't help that one or two times there were two Season 4 episodes aired and at others only one Season 4 episode aired. HGTV tends to air two episodes back to back, one being a new season 4 episode and an episode from a previous season, and then HGTV did change it's scheduling a bit.

Flip or Flop Vegas (season 3, episode 10) Bold Blue Condo - May 2, 2019
I like what they did with this condo, 3 bedrooms and 2 baths just under 1200 sq ft. I for one hate those diagonal walls. I think in the 90's and early 2000's it was a thing with folks trying new ways to figure what a room was. Unfortunately diagonals don't always work well with a room. I do like what they did with the kitchen, removing both walls and extending the one side to the window and on the other side of the kitchen creating a peninsula that can sit 3 people. I thought the one comment in regards to there being no pantry. It is an apartment. I don't remember having a pantry in an apartment. How many sets of dishes do you need? Folks put dry goods/food in the cabinets or perishables in the frig. I luv'ed the blue tile in the kitchen and the bathrooms. Because Aubrey kept a similar shade of blue and didn't mix it up too much it looked great. Plain subway in a basket-weave pattern in the shared bathroom and the hexagon tile in the master. Yes, Aubrey does over do it with too much in blue but if you take away the blue staging furniture and imagine it white or a neutral grey the place is nice. Aubrey was consistent with the lighting being gold and globes. The only thing I didn't like was that lighting piece they put over the kitchen peninsula. They didn't need it and it hid that beautiful vent hood.

Boise Boys: The two homes they looked at initially was a "pyramid" shaped house that was a triplex, and a gorgeous mid-century modern that Luke immediately fell in love with. The MCM had all sorts of gorgeous details that Luke would normally put in a home, but unfortunately the back end of the house was a horribly installed extension with a leaky, bubbling ceiling and wonky layout that would cost an estimated 100k to fix. They decide to go with the pyramid house.
The houses needed to be converted from a triplex to a single-family home so they had to plan carefully. A beautiful row of windows looked out to the backyard in the rear living room, so they decided to make that area a master bedroom, the entire front of the house as a living room/kitchen/office, and create a second story and add a dormer for two more bedrooms and a bath. Loved the office that was right off the side of the front door, and the living room was beautiful. Clint found this lovely piece of cut tree trunk and made a gorgeous coffee table with it that went wonderfully with the brown leather sectional. While renovating, Luke found some little vintage postcards of different New York buildings inside of one of the walls, so he had the pictures scanned, blown up in size and created a gallery with them in the living room. The master bedroom in the back was lovely and light-filled from the windows and the bath was great, while the roomss upstaiirs looked like they had always been a part of the house.
They were able to charge a pretty penny for the house. Not sure if the people who viewed it bought it, but someone did.

One of a Kind (season 1, episode 8) - Canoe Believe It? - May 6, 2019
The last episode of the season, Grace renovates and 1970's lake house. Painting the entire outside of the house black seems kinda a strange choice but it works. Luv'ed the wooden front doors, major improvement of what was there. Front steps edged with black and white tile that looks fabulous. Putting in the vaulted ceiling instead of keeping the multiple vaulted planes simplifies the look and created this incredible vault that guides the eye from the front through the house to the back. The $3000 wooden canoe attached upside down from the ceiling and made into a statement piece as well as a lighting feature does beg the question how the heck are you going to change a light bulb if it goes out? The kitchen footprint does not really change except for eliminating the wall between the main living area and the kitchen. Luv the blue stain on the wooden cabinets. It is a nice variation on a blue cabinet and perfect for lakeside living. I like the story of the basketball court floor used as the kitchen backsplash. I am really luv'ing covered or boxed in vent hoods. The look is very clean and sleek. The photo mural is interesting and is a conversation piece. If you end up hating it you can always paint over it. I don't think it was mentioned how big the house was or what the budget was and I am thinking it must have been a whole house remodel. I do wish they had shown the other rooms.

Boise Boys (season 2, episode 3) - Vaulted Aspirations - May 8, 2019
I give the boys mucho kudos for being able to transform a cut up triplex floor plan back into a single family home. The original house was about 1800 sq ft, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms as a triplex. In the renovation they kept the master bedroom on the ground floor at the back of the house, and I think a guest room also and put in a second story and two bedrooms and a bathroom. I luv'ed that the front of the house had a porch but looked like a classic older home and not a renovation. I liked that they are showing us Luke and Clint's business office and that they showed us some of Luke's thought process going into the design of the back splash of the kitchen. I really like how they stage the house to look very updated but classic look. The staging of the kid's bedrooms looks so 1940/1950's but modern at the same time. What I really like about the designs are the different textures, it just adds so much visual interest.
The house was sold to the couple that toured it for full asking.

Since when did they start charging for shows? I have FIOS and when I missed that one Flip or Flop Vegas I did a Search and that episode only aired twice that particular night which was about 2 or three weeks ago at this point. SO I figured I would try the On Demand feature. The episode comes up, and I thought maybe I was eligible to watch it for free but it said I had to buy the episode. I know that some networks let you watch for free with in a certain time limit but after that they do charge you, at least that is the arrangement that FIOS has.
