Home Town's new season starts tonight with 2 eps starting at 8PM ET.
I don't know if this means that Love It Or List It's new season was shorter and is done after last week's show, or if it's just a break in its season for a while.

Thanks, Kao ! i'm glad they were finally aired. It's an enjoyable show. I wonder why HGTV has treated them so poorly. I have no idea! The guys have been very close-lipped about it and have continued to do promotional work for HGTV but I think that is part of their contract. Meanwhile, they are keeping them on the edge as to whether or not the show will be renewed. Here's what they said around the holidays on FB:
So there are things coming, but what they can't legally say.
Interesting! Maybe they're going to be on the new Magnolia Network. (One can always dream.)

Thanks for the tip about the Boise Boys on HGTV GO. I got a Roku last year and installed it but never really figured out how to use it until the recent holidays. Both episodes were enjoyable. I do wish they had bought the property near the university and built the income properties, that would have been fun.
Does anyone know why Boise is having this huge economic growth spurt?

Some people are also attracted to it's...somewhat homogeneous demographics but we won't talk about that. :wink

Yup. The Boys mentioned that on their show and now Boise is being known as California Exile. There is a large arts community and food, but I wonder if tech industry is ramping up.

Home Town - aww, I hate that a tornado came through and messed up that cute little house they redid! Looks like that one will get a follow up episode. The colors were nice, all soft yellows and greens, and the front porch was adorable. I don't love butcher block counters by the sink, but that's just my preference. I know they were trying to stick to a budget.

I loved the two Hometown episodes. The first episode revisited houses they have renovated so far on the show, and they talked about the process for each one (which was nice). The second episode's buyers was an actor and his wife inspired by what Ben and Erin were doing in Laurel. The picked a home in a depressed area of Laurel to rehab and either sell or rent out to someone in the hopes of stimulating growth in that area. They did a really good job on the house (they offset the white kitchen with a butcher block counter and jadeite colored accessories and cabinet hardware, and the master bedroom and bath had a fresh retro look that was beautiful). Unfortunately, a tornado hit Laurel right before the tenant was going to move in, and while come areas of Laurel weren't affected at all other areas were razed. The windows blew out at Ben and Erin's house, but for the most part they were okay. The house they worked on was okay in the front but a lot of damage was done to the back of the house and the damage inside amounted to 70k--the same amount the homeowners had paid to buy and renovate the house.
I wonder what will happen next? Will the town chip in to help fix the house so the tenant can move in? He was an older gentleman so I don't think he could help. The owners are back in California, and even if the house is insured I guess it would take a lot of time to get a claim to pay out so work can happen. Maybe people will help out now and then get reinbursed when the insurance money comes in? I think that option might be what happens; Laurel seems like a place that takes care of its own. Either way, I think we will find out next week.

Everyone I know who had tens of thousands of dollars in property damage from storms was paid within a reasonable amount of time. The ones who suffer are those with no insurance or, the damage was caused by flood and they didn't have flood insurance.

Home Town: Erin and Ben renovate what was a tiny house/shack on this lady's property so her granddaughter could have a space of her own. They took out some walls and gave the living room a higher, slanted ceiling so it looked a lot bigger on the inside than it did before. The bedroom was on the small side but cozy, and the bathroom was fabulous. Ben made the house owner a kitchen table made of different types of wood that was beautiful, and I loved the greenish-gray cabinets in the kitchen. Outside looked fantastic with white paint, a red steel roof, and blue door. Overall, the house was adorable and perfect for one person.

Whoop, there it is....
When you go to the high noon website and look up the casting info for this show it says "a major television network" and NOT HGTV. Hmmm....

Interesting! I followed the link and discovered that this company is also casting a home renovation show in my city (Provo, UT). I wonder who I know who might be interested. They're looking for houses from the '60s, '70s, and '80s. My nephew has a house from that period. ☺️

I'm seriously wondering if a poster here was right and BB is going to the Magnolia Network. I can't think of another network other than DIY who does home improvement.
Speaking of which, has anyone heard anything about Magnolia Network? It's been really quiet on that front.

Speaking of which, has anyone heard anything about Magnolia Network? It's been really quiet on that front. I think I was the one who speculated about that, but I'm not sure that the Magnolia Network would qualify as "a major network." I tend to think of that as being one of the non-cable networks, but that thinking may not be accurate anymore. I just did a quick search and found this article, which says that their first show isn't set to launch until October 2020. www.countryliving.com/life/entertainment/a29576359/chip-joanna-gaines-magnolia-network-premiere-date/

So if you have DIY, it should just turn into Magnolia one day later this year.

I think it was the back of the house, where that cute jadeite retro refrigerator was located.

I have been watching tons of reno shows this winter. Love the Boise Boys, Love it or List It,Flip or Flop, House Hunters, Good Bones, to name just a few. I am noticing that over all, they are re-doing the same style in almost every house! The same open concept, island in the kitchen, whiter kitchens, quartz or cement counters--granite seems to be on the way out--huge showers, double sink vanities wooden floors thru out. I know its trendy right now, but it would be nice to see someone forge ahead with some new ideas.

After a while I realized they were doing the same style house for different people and it got old. I prefer Home Town and Boise Boys partially because they let the house layout dictate what type of kitchen they create and they tend to use color in their kitchen.

I was watching an older episode of Buying and Selling (ot whatever it's called), and the home they were fixing up to sell had a lot of color in it. The woman told Jonathan, she didn't want it to become all white and gray. But surprise! That's exactly what he did to it. I get that some people like that, but I almost didn't buy my favorite house ever, because I just can't bear cold grays, and I saw the house on an overcast day. Fortunately, I went back on a sunnier day and could see how beautiful it really was. I immediately painted upon moving in, however.

Boise Boys, Good Bones, Desert Flippers and Home Town are my faves simply because they don't do the same white/gray/black crap over and over. Every house they do is different and has its own personality (and color). I quit commenting on Christina on the Coast because every show was the same thing. White, gray, cement tiles. Whee. I saw an ad for Tarek's new show, something about helping wannabe flippers. We'll see about that one...I've seen too many dingbats around here think they can flip houses after watching HGTV one weekend. It never ends well.

I luv the mid century mod, industrial rustic the Boise Boys do. I also like that they do take into account the character of the house. Remember the firehouse they updated, and that spanish style house with all the doors facing the patio? Totally adore Good Bones, who doesn't like an emerald green kitchen? Desert Flippers, adore the Palm Springs look. Home Town again they speak to the character of the house as well as the owner and at times the older more traditional sense of the couple which I don't mind. Hey I don't like everything but I like that they work with the quirky. Christina makes me gag. I just couldn't do season 2 of her show. Tarek...mmmm.....I don't know...might be worth watching just to see the idiots but it could all be so fake.

Luke and Clint clarified today on Instagram that the channel the new show is on is defintely HGTV; they're just changing the format. They're not the only ones; the Ford siblings are also having their show changed to specialize on Philadelphia buildings. Apparently HGTV felt like they had way too many "renovate and flip" shows on the network and wanted to try new concepts with some new favs. As quiet as it's kept, apparently "Restored by the Fords" has decent viewership numbers despite their butchery of mid century and other vintage buildings. It also explains why the Property Brothers switched over to the "forever home" format where they make the houses people are currently living in better for the way they live.

Ah...the pendulum swings back to the days of the half-hour dress up shows and hour long Candace Olsen type shows. Give it a year or two and the flippers will be back full force. However, I prefer the renovate shows to the flip shows, so perhaps I'll be watching more.
Speaking of a FULL renovation, Extreme Makeover starts soon.
I see Boise Boys on my list for Sat at 12 and 1PM. Holmes & Holmes continues its run on HGTV this Sunday at 9 and 10PM.

Kao, I too think showcasing David's decorating talent is missing on Lottery Dream Home but, I think his talent as a host is spot on. He comes across as being fun and funny, caring and authentic. I love him on that show. I'm wondering (perhaps someone here knows for sure) have the lottery winners already purchased their home before filming or is it more "real" than most?

When I looked at the casting for the show it was basically like "Are you a lottery winner? Do you need help picking out a house? Let David Bromsted help!" I'm thinking it's like HH and is something in between; some people already have their house picked out while others need a little help. One of my partner's coworkers was on HH and they didn't have the house picked out beforehand but knew what area of the city they wanted to live in and worked with a realtor (which happened to be his future mother-in-law). With the lottery show some of the homeowners want to move to/get a vacation house in another state and either they've done their research beforehand, narrowed their picks down to three and then David helps them or he helps them through the whole thing.

I'll absolutely check out the new Boise Boys show, whatever they end up calling it. They do good work. Highly doubt I'll watch whatever Leanne is doing, she's just not my thing.
Loved what they did with the tired old brick ranch on Home Town this week, that had to be one of the best garage/carport conversions I've seen. There are SO many bad ones around here. The kitchen was cute with the blue cabinets and pretty tiles on the vent hood.

I think I'll check Leanne out for a minute; she did a wonderful job on her brother's loft and it's really nice seeing a show set in a major city again (Windy City Rehab being the only other one) instead of the suburbs/small towns/smaller metro areas HGTV shows usually are filmed at. Us city dwellers watch HGTV too and like to see us represented for a change. Plus it will be interesting to see how her aesthetic marries with Philadelphia architecture.
