During their career they have released 9 studio albums, 2 compilation albums, 1 Live album & 15 singles. This song comes from their album “The Lemonheads" Album, it was released in 2006 & was their 1st album after a 10 year hiatus. Pittsburgh by The Lemonheads www.youtube.com/watch?v=eok0pyTjH1E

The Kingston Trio is a folk and pop music group that helped launch the folk revival of the late 1950s to late 1960s. The group started as a San Francisco Bay Area nightclub act with an original lineup of Dave Guard, Bob Shane, and Nick Reynolds. The group was at the forefront of altering the direction of popular music in the U.S. In 1961, the Trio was described as "the most envied, the most imitated, and the most successful singing group, folk or otherwise, in all show business" and "the undisputed kings of the folksinging rage by every yardstick". The Trio's massive record sales in its early days made acoustic folk music commercially viable, paving the way for singer-songwriter, folk rock, and Americana artists who followed in their wake. The group has won 2 Grammy Awards: 1959 Best Country and Western Recording – "Tom Dooley" & 1960 Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording – At Large. Tom Dooley has also been installed into the Grammy Hall Of Fame & was chosen for inclusion in the Library of Congress National Registry of Historically Significant Recordings, in 2006. This song was originally recorded in 1962. They had plans of releasing it as a single, but it never happened. The song has since been released in recent years on various CD compilations. The group has gone through many different members during their 50+ years. At the time of this recording, the original group leader Dave Guard has departed. This group still includes original members Nick Reynolds & Bob Shane, John Stewart has replaced Dave Guard. Allentown Jail by The Kingston Trio www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhY3WBMjcH8

Shawn Colvin is a singer-songwriter and musician born in Vermillion, South Dakota, and raised in Carbondale, Illinois. She has won 3 Grammy Awards. In 1991 she won Best Contemporary Folk Album for Steady On (it was her 1st album) & in 1998 she won both Record Of The Year & Song Of The Year for "Sunny Came Home". During her career she has released 8 studio albums, 2 live albums and sixteen singles. This song comes from her 2nd album. It was called Fat City & it came out in 1992. Jones organ, & stalwart studio musicians David Lindley, Richard Thompson & Jim Keltner among many others. She co – wrote this song with a guy named John Leventhal, who was also a co producer on the album. He has also produced albums for William Bell, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Michelle Branch, Rosanne Cash, Marc Cohn, Sarah Jarosz, Rodney Crowell, Jim Lauderdale, Joan Osborne, Loudon Wainwright III and The Wreckers. The Bluescasters are a Michigan-based blues band formed in 2004 in Ann Arbor. There isn’t much outside info on them, but this is what they say about themselves on their facebook page: The Bluescasters derive their unique style from the diverse backgrounds of it's member musicians. Elements of jazz, R & B, and rock, and are woven into the fabric of their songs. All four members have been active, professional musicians for over 30 years. In 2009 the group added Ann Arbor's legendary jazz guitar master, Brian Delaney. The Bluescasters use vocal harmony over a groove oriented rhythm section to emphasize the instrumental solos and to drive the dance floor. The Bluescasters reached the 2006 finals in the Detroit Music Awards category of "Best Blues/R & B Artist". The main focus of the band is entertaining their audience. Even the staff and management at the clubs they play enjoy the party atmosphere and great vibe at their shows. Evidently, they were highly thought of in the Detroit area. They were nominated for: 2006 - Finalists in the Detroit Blues Society Blues Challenge 2007 - Detroit Music Awards nomination: "Outstanding Blues Artist/Group" 2007 - Detroit Music Awards nomination: "Outstanding Blues/R & B Recording" for Give Yourself the Blues 2010 - Finalists in the Windsor Battle of the Blues (placed second). During their career they have released 5 albums with the most recent one happening in 2016. But it appears as though they are still together & booking tour days, so we may get another album from them in the future. This song comes from their debut album called Five Dimes, it came out in 2005. Austin in My Sights by The Bluescasters www.youtube.com/watch?v=dC2JIPmZmws

The Beat Farmers were an American band that formed in San Diego in August 1983, and enjoyed a following into the early 1990s before the death of drummer and sometime lead singer Country Dick Montana who died of a heart attack while performing "The Girl I Almost Married", three songs into their set at the Longhorn Saloon in Whistler, British Columbia. Their music has been described as an amalgamation of cow punk, jangle pop, roots rock, hard-twang Americana, country rock, rockabilly, and swamp rock. The San Diego Reader summed up their sound as ..."like Bo Diddley, CCR, Joe South, and the Yardbirds, ham fisted into a food processor, stuffed into a shotgun shell, and blasted into a beer keg at three in the morning. Me, I’m not quite so poetic as the San Diego paper, I say they sound like The Outlaws, for those that remember that band. There was a compilation album released of their music in 2004, but other than that it looks like they released their 6th & final album in 1995. This song comes from their album The Pursuit Of Happiness. It was released in 1987. Texas by Beat Farmers www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYwFaK2fL40

Chilliwack is a Canadian rock band that originated in Vancouver, British Columbia. They were active from 1970 to 1988. The band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2009. During their career they released 14 albums with the most recent one being a LIVE album that came out in 2003. This song comes from their Dreams, Dreams, Dreams, album. It came out in 1977. The album stalled out at #142 here in the US but it got to 13 in Canada. According to Bill Henderson's (group leader, song writer & lead guitar, lead and backing vocalist), liner notes from the 2013 reissue, the band members at this time were all Scientologists, and the back of the album contains a dedication to L. Ron Hubbard. The song was released as a single & landed at 19 in Canada but did not find an audience here in the states. They would eventually crack the top 40 here, but that doesn't happen until 1981. California Girl by Chilliwack www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3ca0IaxuCg

Head East is a rock band, originally from East Central Illinois that formed in 1969. Group members included vocalist John Schlitt, guitarist Danny Piper, keyboardist Roger Boyd, bassist Larry Boyd, and drummer Steve Huston. They met and formed the band while John, Roger, and Larry were studying at the University of Illinois, Steve was at Eastern Illinois University 45 miles away and Danny was not in college. In March 1980, bassist Dan Birney and guitarist Mike Somerville left the band, while singer John Schlitt was fired over a drug dependency. He would later recover, become a born-again Christian and reappear as the lead singer of the Contemporary Christian Music band Petra. The band's original guitarist and songwriter Mike Somerville died on February 28, 2020, at age 67. He is the only one to have left us. In 2011, the band was inducted into the Iowa Rock n' Roll Music Association's Hall of Fame. During their career they released 9 studio albums with the most recent one happening in 2013, after a hiatus of 25 years. This song comes from their 1st album. It was called Flat As A Pancake & came out in 1975. The album got only to 126 on the charts, but it included their most famous hit single, Never Been Any Reason. It was their only Gold album. Roosevelt Sykes was a blues musician, singer/songwriter/piano player. He was born in Elmar, Arkansas but raised in St. Louis. He was also known as "the Honeydripper". He picked up his nickname "the Honey Dripper" while playing on a session for singer Edith Johnson in 1929, during which she recorded "Honeydripper Blues". He later said she gave him the name due to his kind disposition and easygoing personality. He also claimed the nickname dated back to his childhood, "Girls used to hang around me when I was a young kid. So the boys say, 'He must have honey.'" He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame posthumously in 1999. He passed away in 1983 at the age of 76. This song was originally recorded in 1947. I suspect this was long before the era of the album. High As A Georgia Pine by Roosevelt Sykes www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRF8uyZeB74

The only info I found on this group is from Wikipedia & that has been regurgitated all across the blogosphere, so I am going to copy it straight off of there because I don’t know if I could make it any clearer. Here ya go! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Four_BlazesThe Four Blazes were an American R&B vocal and instrumental group formed in Chicago and popular in the 1940s and 1950s. They were also occasionally billed as The Five Blazes and (probably just on record labels) as the "Blasers" or the "Flames." The group was formed in 1940 by drummer Paul Lindsley "Jelly" Holt, an experienced Chicago musician who had previously been a member of the Five Rhythm Rocketeers. The Rocketeers had a residency at the Grand Terrace Ballroom, and linked up with Earl Hines for a European tour in 1939. When they returned, the Rocketeers broke up and Holt formed a new band, The Four Blazes. The other original members were Jimmy Bennett and William "Shorty" Hill on guitars and mandolin, and Prentice Butler on bass. Bennett was later replaced by lead guitarist Floyd McDaniel (1915-1995), and the group also added pianist Ernie Harper (1920-1984) - brother of pianist Walt Harper from Pittsburgh. As The Five Blazes, they signed with Aristocrat Records in 1947, becoming only the second act to record for the predecessor to Chess Records. Confusingly, one of their numbers was "Chicago Boogie," and an entirely different group from Los Angeles called The Four Blazes recorded a song called "Chicago Blues" around the same time. The Chicago group became The Four Blazes again after Ernie Harper left in 1948 for a solo career. In 1951, Butler died and was replaced by lead vocalist and bass player Tommy Braden. The group recorded a series of singles for United Records from 1952 onwards, several of them featuring saxophonist Eddie Chamblee. Their first release, "Mary Jo", hit # 1 on the R&B charts in August 1952, and the follow-ups "Please Send Her Back To Me" and "Perfect Woman" also made the R&B top ten. In 1954, Braden left the band for a while, seeking a solo career; he died in 1957. Although Braden returned for a while, and Red Holloway took over from Eddie Chamblee accompanying the band in the studio, the Blazes broke up for good after a last recording session in 1955. "Jelly" Holt started a new vocal/instrumental group called the Four Whims before retiring in the early 1960s, and McDaniel performed with the Ink Spots before launching a solo career late in life. And now it is all as clear as mud. But, the music is jumpin.... Chicago Boogie by The Five Blazes www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfBOGGdOeL8

This must be a day for under - appreciated Blues musicians. Frank Craig known professionally as Left Hand Craig was a guitarist and singer who made a career as a sideman in lots of Chicago bands between the mid-50s and the late 70s. Born in the heart of the Delta, Frank went to Chicago as a teenager, where he played his guitar southpaw and strung upside down. Sounds similar to another guy we know. He would perform outside the clubs where Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf were on-stage (because he and his friends were too young to get in) hoping to get noticed. Soon Frank had regular gigs with harpists Willie Cobbs and Junior Wells and with guitarists Jimmy Rogers, Jimmy Dawkins and Hound-Dog Taylor. In the late 70s, Frank contributed four tracks to an album called 'Live at the Knickerbocker Cafe'. This song comes from that album. The Meters are a funk band formed in 1965 in New Orleans by Zigaboo Modeliste (drums), George Porter Jr. (bass), Leo Nocentelli (guitar) and Art Neville (keyboards). Membership has changed many times over the years, but the 1st 3 members mentioned are still part of the band & still touring together. While they rarely enjoyed significant mainstream success, they are considered originators of funk along with artists like James Brown, and their work is influential on many other bands, both their contemporaries and modern musicians. The band has been nominated four times for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, most recently in 2017. They have been given a Lifetime Achievement Award at the second annual Jammy Awards in 2001. In 2013, they received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Big Easy Music Awards. And in 2018 the band was presented with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2011, their song "Cissy Strut" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. This was the title song to their 6th studio album, released in 1975. It was the band's first album with new percussionist Cyril Neville as a member, he was also a co - writer on the song. At the time, the band's headlining performances were receiving good reviews. According to a review in The Real Paper, "they could blow virtually any other band in the country right off the stage." At the time of this album the band was opening for the Rolling Stones on their U.S. Tour. Fire On The Bayou by The Meters www.youtube.com/watch?v=KoHJZT8U-wE

Little Feat is a rock band formed by singer-songwriter, lead vocalist and guitarist Lowell George and keyboardist Bill Payne in 1969 in Los Angeles. Lowell disbanded the group due to creative differences shortly before his death in 1979. Surviving members re-formed in 1987 and the band has remained active to the present. In 2008, they reached their 20th anniversary with just one lineup change since 1988 (that was a new drummer, with Gabe Ford replacing Richie Hayward). But, in 2020, they again got a new drummer named Tony Leone. This song comes from their album Representing the Mambo. It was the 9th studio album by the group & it was released in 1990. This their last album on Warner Bros. Records after nearly 20 years with the label, it sold poorly & got some really bad reviews. But there is good stuff included, like this song. Anita O'Day, was a jazz singer and self proclaimed “song stylist” from Kansas City, Missouri, widely admired for her sense of rhythm and dynamics, and her early big band appearances that shattered the traditional image of the "girl singer". Her real name was Anita Belle Colton. She signed on with Gene Krupa in early 1941. Of the 34 sides they recorded together, it was "Let Me Off Uptown", a novelty duet with Roy Eldridge, that became her first big hit. When Krupa's band broke up after he was arrested in 1943 for marijuana possession, Anita joined Woody Herman for a month-long gig at the Hollywood Palladium. Then it was on to Stan Kenton’s orchestra, before finally becoming a solo artist in 1946. Anita died in her sleep On Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2006, at age 87. The official cause of death was cardiac arrest. Gene Krupa was a jazz drummer, bandleader and composer from Chicago. He was known for his energetic style and showmanship. His drum solo on Benny Goodman's 1937 recording of "Sing, Sing, Sing" elevated the role of the drummer from an accompanying line to an important solo voice in the band. In 1943, he was arrested on a trumped-up drug charge. This resulted in a short jail sentence and bad publicity. He broke up the orchestra and returned to Benny Goodman's band for a few months. When Goodman wanted him to go on a west coast tour, he declined. He then joined Tommy Dorsey's band for several months and then put together his next orchestra. Gene died in 1973, at the age 64 from heart failure, though he also had leukemia and emphysema. This song was recorded in July, 1942. emmet swimming is a rock band from Fairfax, Virginia that was formed in 1990 at George Mason University. The band's name is a misspelled reference to Emmett Till, who died after being shot and thrown into a river. "The idea of the name was basically that a 14-year-old boy should be swimming in the river, not dying in it," said singer/founder Todd Watts. During their career they have released 7 albums with the most recent one happening in 2013. It does appear as though they are still a group & they continue to tour, performing as many as 200 shows a year. In the past they have played and toured with Dave Matthews Band and Barenaked Ladies. Sammy Davis Jr. was a singer, dancer, actor, comedian, author, film producer and television director. He was born in the Harlem section of Manhattan. He was nominated for 3 Grammy Awards but did not win. His song What Kind Of Fool Am I was nominated in 1962 for both Record Of The Year & Male Solo Vocal Performance, (he lost out to Tony Bennett & I Left My Heart In San Francisco). Even though he lost both awards, the song & his performance has been installed into the Grammy Hall Of Fame. Sammy died of complications from throat cancer on May 16, 1990, at age 64. He had been a heavy smoker for years, smoking as much as 4 packs a day. He left the bulk of his estate, estimated at $4,000,000 to his widow, Altovise Davis, but he owed the IRS $5,200,000 which, after interest and penalties, had increased to over $7,000,000. She became liable for his debt because she had co-signed his tax returns. She was forced to auction his personal possessions and real estate. Some of his friends in the industry, including Quincy Jones, Joey Bishop, Ed Asner, Jayne Meadows, and Steve Allen, participated in a fundraising concert at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas. Altovise and the IRS reached a settlement in 1997. This was the very last single he released. It came out in 1984 & was not included on an album. The song did not chart. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, his final charting single was a minor hit on the Country charts called…Smoke, Smoke, Smoke. Hello Detroit by Sammy Davis Jr. www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZXNb_y0KCw

They have won 13 Grammy Awards, including five in 2007 for Taking the Long Way—which received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year—and its single "Not Ready to Make Nice"—which received the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and the Grammy Award for Song of the Year. Mavis Staples is a rhythm and blues and gospel singer, actress, and civil rights activist from Chicago. She has recorded and performed with her family's band The Staple Singers and also as a solo artist. The Staples Singers were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and Mavis made it into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2017. She has won multiple Awards over the years & is nominated for the Grammy this year for her album, We Are. She has also been awarded The Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. She was recognized as a 2016 Kennedy Center Honoree at the 39th annual gala event held in Washington, D.C. This song comes from her We'll Never Turn Back album. It was released in 2007. Ry Cooder produced the album & I do believe that is him on guitar in this song. This was a concept album with lyrical themes relating to the African-American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s. The album was ranked number 48 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the Top 50 Albums of 2007. Los Angeles Times columnist Todd Martens named We'll Never Turn Back the second best album of the year, and Greg Kot of the Chicago Tribune ranked it number one on his list of the best albums of 2007. Since the early song this morning was a Bob Dylan composition, we can continue the Dylan link…In the 2015 documentary Mavis! she reveals that Bob once proposed to her, and she turned him down. Sir Richard Starkey, better known as Ringo Starr, is an English musician, singer, songwriter and actor who achieved international fame as the drummer for the Beatles. His playing style influenced many drummers to reconsider their playing from a compositional perspective. He also influenced various modern drumming techniques, such as the matched grip, tuning the drums lower, and using muffling devices on tonal rings. In his opinion, his finest recorded performance was on the Beatles' "Rain". In 1999, he was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. In 2011, Rolling Stone readers named him the fifth-greatest drummer of all time. He was inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a Beatle in 1988 and as a solo artist in 2015, and appointed a Knight Bachelor in the 2018 New Year Honours for services to music. In 2020, he was cited as the wealthiest drummer in the world, with a net worth of $350 million. This song comes from his 13th studio album. It was called Ringorama & it came out in 2003. Contributors this time around include Willie Nelson, Charlie Haden, Van Dyke Parks, Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, Shawn Colvin, Timothy B. Schmit, and Eric Clapton. Ringo said "People would ask, "So who's on the record?" and we'd say, "Just a couple of local guys. You know, like Eric Clapton and Dave Gilmour." Because they do both live just around the corner." Recording took place at Starr's recording studio in London, Rocca Bella, and Mark Hudson's Whatinthewhatthe? Studios in Los Angeles, with the sessions being produced by Ringo, Mark Hudson and Gary Nicholson. Mark Hudson came to fame originally as one of the Hudson Brothers. He has produced albums by a variety of artists including Cher, Aerosmith, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, Hanson, Harry Nilsson, and the Baha Men. He is also the uncle of Kate. Guitar solo on this song is from David Gilmour, Timothy B. Schmidt adds backing vocals. All of these songs I have posted over the past months & this is the 1st one by a solo member of the Fabs. James Keelaghan is a Canadian folk singer-songwriter, born in Calgary, Alberta. Many of the lyrics in his songs display a concern about social problems and justice in society. Examples of such themes include "Kiri's Piano", about the internment of Japanese Canadians, and "October 70", about the FLQ crisis, inspired by events and figures in Canadian history. Some of his songs concern tragic historical events, such as "Fires of Calais," about the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation of Allied troops during World War II, and "Cold Missouri Waters," about the Mann Gulch fire of 1949. I was in 8th-9th grade in 1960. I love the bit where Dick Clark enters in teacher gear. He was one of the 1st Bobby's. There seemed to be a Bobby for every occasion back then. Rydell, Darin, Vee, & then there would come Dylan & Sherman...RIP Mr. Rydell.

The Band was a Canadian-American rock band formed in Toronto in 1967. It consisted of four Canadians and one American: Rick Danko (bass guitar, vocals, fiddle), Garth Hudson (keyboards, accordion, saxophone), Richard Manuel (keyboards, drums, lap steel guitar, vocals), Robbie Robertson (guitar, vocals), and Levon Helm (drums, vocals, mandolin, guitar). Between 1958 and 1963, the group was known as the Hawks, a backing band for rockabilly singer Ronnie Hawkins. In the mid-1960s, they gained recognition for backing Bob Dylan, and the 1966 concert tour was notable as Dylan's first with an electric band. After leaving Dylan and changing their name to "The Band", they released several records to critical and popular acclaim. During their career they released 10 studio albums, 9 live albums, 9 compilation albums, and 33 singles, as well as 2 studio and 2 live albums in collaboration with Bob Dylan. Rick Danko left us in 1999 he was 55. Levon Helm departed in 2012 he was 71. Rick Manuel committed suicide in 1986 he was just 42. Garth Hudson is still with us, he is 84. Robbie Robertson is also still alive, he is 78. This song comes from their 1993 album called Jericho. It was their 8th studio album. In 1985, the Band went into the studio for the first time since 1977 with the intent of recording tracks for an eventual album. Rick Manuel had recently expressed interest in writing new material for the group, and had written "Breaking New Ground" with Gerry Goffin and Carole King. However, on March 6, 1986, Manuel was found dead of suicide, and the Band abandoned efforts to make an album for several years. The album was finally completed in 1993, with new members Richard Bell, Randy Ciarlante and Jim Weider on keyboards, second drums and lead guitar respectively. The song itself was written by Bruce Springsteen & it includes Eric Bazilian on Mandolin & Rob Hyman on Keyboards. Atlantic City by The Band www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0eZwpHtcK4
