I love he new stage shape (in the round) with cameras all around at stage level to give fantastic stop action shots for leaps. Wonderful. The "new" two judges are rather opposite - one all emotion on the surface and the other so serious. We got to hear Mary's train whistle once last night as the hot tomale train welcomed a brother/sister ballroom pair.
There was a jazz dancer originally from Australia who includes comedy in her routines; but with the perfect comedy bits there is also good technique. I can't wait to see her continue, but I doubt she'll be able to "Be Lucy" from this point forward.
They didn't show any bad auditions last night probable because of the 1 hour time frame.

I like the new judges and their understanding of dance. I loved the first hip hop dancer, and the last dancer( Gino) his body felt every note.. Its going to be a good season..

I really hated the changes made to the show. It felt like they were trying to be more like World of Dance, which I don't enjoy. I always liked the initial auditions, with all of the dancers in the audience, cheering each other on. Now it feels to over-produced and there's no camaraderie. Maybe that's a result of my having been a dancer There's no better audience for dancers than other dancers. I loved it when someone just KILLED it with an audition and the other dancers in the audience just went crazy.
The stage was too small. I could see some of the dancers working to avoid hitting the edge of the stage.
Not happy with the new judges either, especially Laurieann. She was just WAY over-the-top with positive comments for everyone. Of the dancers we saw, there were only two who I thought deserved the high praise - the ballroom dancing siblings and Gino, who I do remember from Dance Moms. That kid's technique is insane. I agree with the judges who said they'd be surprised if he didn't make it to the top ten.
I didn't get why they were so crazed about that first girl. We've definitely seen much better hip hop dancers on the show, but they all (especially Laurieann) acted like she was the second coming.
I don't necessarily want the judges to be MEAN, but all of the gushy feedback feels fake.
ETA: The other thing I didn't like was how the camera kept panning to the audience and the judges while the dancers were performing. I don't care! I want to see the dancers! This show has (surprisingly) never been great at filming the dancers well, but that was even worse than normal.

The stage is very much like world of dance, but I loved seeing all the angles, plus the WOD stage held many dancers at the same time. So dancers shouldn't worry. I guess they did some polling, and went with the feedback The old SYTYCD was getting stale..

But IIRC, the WOD stage is raised rather than sunken and this stage also felt smaller to me. Much more of an opportunity for dancers to trip.
Maybe it's just me, but I didn't think it was stale at all. I just enjoy watching the dancers. I hate gimmicks, which is what that dumb surround camera thing felt like. They do that same thing on at least one awards show red carpet and it's sort of cringe-worthy. The changes felt more like network-driven decisions. Like they saw the apparent (and inexplicable) popularity of WOD and decided to copy it.
I hope the next stages of the show feel more like the old SYTYCD. I watch the show because I like how it's done. If they keep changing it all, the show won't feel like SYTYCD, but like it's trying to be something else. I also hope the judges - especially Laurieann - calm down a bit and stop feeling like they're giving every dancer a participation trophy. There's nothing wrong with constructive criticism. That's how you improve! False compliments and blowing smoke doesn't help anyone.

I prefer these judges to that last girl, who just said "that was great" over and over. I don't even recall her name..
I'm just glad it's back, there was talk it would be cancelled. I'm not loving the live audience, but if all else fails, one could just watch the dancing, and FF through the rest, something I often do on DWTS..

I haven't watched this show in several seasons. (Spinning and me don't get along). Still, I decided to watch the auditions because there's not a lot of spinning. I gotta say, none of the dancers impressed me except for Gino.
I think the stage is way too small for some of the leaps and slides across the floor that a lot of the dancers will want to do. I predict someone will get hurt before this is over with.
I'm not crazy about the 2 new judges. Perhaps they were just being kind because it's early in the season, but I want judges who'll be truthful to the contestants. They're not doing them any favors by fawning all over someone when the dancer they are praising is average to slightly above average at best.
