Ugh, I fell asleep halfway through. How did they do? Castro (one of my favs) made it through. Colton, the red-headed tapper barely made it through. The girl with alopecia and her boyfriend made it through. The 2 male Filipino hip hoppers were really good and made it through. I think the other twin was let go. Those are the only ones I remember.

Some of the best latin hips belong to the male hip hop dancers. It was sad to me to see the comedic jazz dancer leave. She understood, though, that she wasn't ready to learn other choreography. At least they let her dance for her life so we got to see another of her specialized routines.

I think you mean Eddie. And, yeah, he really did squeak by. I was surprised at how little energy he was giving in that ballroom round, especially with his arms. He looked like he was marking and not dancing full out.
The Academy is really when the separate the ones who just gave a good audition from the actual contenders. I don't have any real favorites from this week. I'm sure it'll be either someone in contemporary or ballet. I'm nothing if not predictable

I was really surprised at how bad he was in the ballroom round. I always wonder why they don’t take at least a few lessons in other genres.

It's like not learning to drive a stick shift car when you know you are going to be on the Amazing Race. I think I heard a few mention that they had some classes. The problem with Eddie wasn't his lower half in latin, it was that his arms were floppy; but yes, he could have done with a good instructor.

A few lessons in a completely unfamiliar genre aren't going to do much. It takes YEARS to become proficient and at least a year, IMO, to be passable in a dance genre that's not one you're necessarily comfortable in. Taking classes helps, but it's a lot more than just a few.
Eddie's arms weren't even floppy really. He was just not extending them, just like dancers do when marking the steps. Nigel even commented about it. All dance styles require strong arms in some way, but in ballroom, where there's partner work, it's really important. In the Cha Cha, you have to extend the arms fully and he looked like a T-Rex.
