On 3 October 2019, Endemol Shine Australia confirmed that Big Brother Australia would be returning in 2020, initially it was reported that the Seven Network would revive the series however it was later revealed that the Nine Network still had the rights to the show despite not airing it since November 2014, thus meaning Nine had the first decision for any revival of Big Brother. As they had passed the deadline and set out their plans for 2020, Nine's first refusal rights to Big Brother expired later in October 2019.
On 23 October 2019, Seven Network confirmed it will be reviving the series in 2020. Rumors indicate the series will be closer in format to the American & Canadian versions - particularly given the upfronts trailer featured footage from Big Brother US 17, Big Brother Canada 2 and Big Brother Canada 3 as well as the empishies on the phrase "Control, Evict, Win" in the promo.
In this new format, the housemates will compete in competitions for power over the household and vote to evict each other out of the house. The reboot has been compared to Survivor - in which the politicking and strategising regarding the Nomination and Eviction processes are not only allowed (being disallowed in earlier iterations) but central to the format. Seven's Director of Programming Angus Ross confirmed there would be no live shows on 26 October.
I just watched the first episode. I liked it. The house is amazing. The 1st competition looked fun. I like how they have the competition room in the basement. Unlike BB US and CAN they won't have to lock the hgs inside to set up comps. There was no VETO. The person who won the competition nominated 3 people right away and the eviction was later that day. The person nominating did not get to vote on the eviction but the nominees did.
In EST the show was on at 5:30am. I used BBViewer and a VPN to watch. Not sure if BBViewer will have the episode archived later.
Not all hgs are in the house yet. 12 went in during this episode with one being evicted. From the previews another 4 will enter during the night while others are asleep. Then 4 more come in the next day.
Anyone else watching? 4 new hgs come in during the night, nomination challenge (had to melt ice using their body and hands to get a flag - didn't they do something like that in BBCAN?), 3 hgs nominated and 1 evicted.
I liked the first two eps. That Alan guy was his own worst enemy. He thought that he was the best player and everyone would just bend to his will. I was so happy to see him voted out!
I think there will be a lot of happy evictions since this thing is not live like we are used to. I hated Alan but it was mostly because he was edited to show all of his manipulation. Even after he was voted out he was too obtuse to see that he did it himself.
They made Keiran the star of this series in the first episode. I was sure that they weren't gonna build him up like that knowing that he was going home second. I think he will be a major part of the story this season.
I'm downloading the episodes from a web site a day later.
I watched the whole season (sorry I have been away from FORT for a bit) and it was ok. I didn't like the last ep, and I was surprised at the winner out of the last three. Season wasn't too bad but wasn't great either. Some great houseguests tho. I didn't keep up with social media or behind the scenes but listening to Rob Has a Podcast's recaps there were a lot of things not shown (like Kieran had a semi showmance?)
