Season 7 Finale and Series Finale

I always like it when a series has a chance to wrap up the story lines and have a reasonable series finale for the fans and not leave them hanging.
I do think Once Upon A Time was a ground breaking TV show in that it brought a fantasy show to network TV, and aired successfully in a prime time family viewing spot and held that position for six seasons. Even moving Once to Fridays for season 7 still put it at a time and place that families and fans could watch it. Sidebar: I don't know why Fridays are considered a death night because as a kid that was a big night for us kids as it was wash night and stay up late a little bit and watch all these shows with mom and dad and have cake and potato chips. Yes, it was family night and treat night and I loved it. Anyway it was great that Once showed there was a place on network TV for a fantasy show, it made it acceptable for everyone to watch and not just geeks, and nerds, and little kids. For that I thank the show runners. On the other hand this show did frustrate as at times it was too Disney, too smarmy, too sugary sweet, and way too simplistic as to what is good and bad and how it must be one or the other and there was no room in between. I was surprised that everyone chose Regina to be the overall high Queen. I did like that her interaction with Robin and that while she did have a happy ending with Robin they both acknowledged not all happy endings are long lived and that was OK. I just wish that the good characters could have been played with as much vim and vigor as the bad guys then truly this was have been epic, but that is always so hard to do. Overall there were some fun moments.

Alice and Robin arrive in Storybrooke and come across the past version of Zelena. Robin reveals that she's her daughter from the future and tells her that their family needs help. In the snowglobe, Rumple reveals to Hook that his Wish counterpart had stripped him of his powers and his immortality. Everyone is able to break free when Alice magically delivers Maui's fish hook. Meanwhile, Wish Henry has Regina captured and sets up a duel to death for them on the next day. Wish Rumple then visits Wish Henry and reveals that his plan is to use portals to trap all of the other characters inside of storybooks, where they are destined for unhappy endings. While she's locked up, Regina experiences a vision of Robin Hood. When Henry comes to her rescue, he's attacked by black knights, but Snow and Charming show up and save them both. Weaver uses magic dust to regain limited magic. As Wish Henry and Regina are fighting, the others begin to get sucked into the portals. Ultimately, Regina is able to reason with him and he forfeits, closing off the portals. Hook had grabbed Alice to save her, but their contact leaves his heart in a dire state. Rumple then decides to sacrifice himself, by removing his own heart and placing it inside Hook, destroying Wish Rumple and the Darkness in the process. He is then reunited with Belle in the Afterlife. Regina decides to merge all the realms using a new curse, which brings the united magical universe inside the Storybrooke limits. Several years later, the citizens decide to crown Regina as the Good Queen of the United Realms.
