Anybody watching this? I don't condone what Betty ended up doing, but WOW, I can understand what got her there. Her husband was horrible. You don't gaslight and treat people like that and think it'll end well...

I've watched some of it and familiar with the case and it reminds me of the old Chris Rock joke: "Now killing is wrong....but I understand!" I can't imagine helping someone through school only to have them cheat on me, lie about it repeatedly, then dump me. He gave her a big alimony and she could have just took the coins and dashed but he kept subtracting money off for "transgressions" and some months she barely got anything. It's like, c'mon, dude, you got what you wanted. Give her the money and leave her alone. On the other hand, she harassed him to the point he had to get many restraining orders.
She's serving a lot of time, partially because she has never once shown any remorse for what she did. I wonder what she would have been like if he had told her the truth from the very beginning. I guess the moral of this story is don't use people to get your degree then lie to them constantly about having affairs.

I like Amanda Peet, but I can hardly think of an actress who looks less like Betty Broderick. I remember when the whole thing happened and I know I watched at least one TV movie about it (maybe starring Meredith Baxter, which was good casting). I don't think I need to see another one.
I just looked it up and Betty's been denied parole twice. She doesn't come up for parole again until 2032. She's 72, so it's likely she'll die in prison.

The reason why they deny her parole is because each time the judge has asked her if she's had any remorse or grown from the experience and each time she's like "Nope....they had it coming." I'm not going to fault her for that because sometimes people fall on their own sword, and sometimes that sword is other people you've done wrong who give you your comeuppance.

Why on earth did she choose to represent herself? It's sad to see her keep making bad/childish decisions, spiraling down...I know he did her extremely dirty and she was crushed by it, but I wish she'd just found the strength to throw that man in the trash and move on with her life.
