I recently found a 3 Part show called Rise of the Nazis. I know, not exactly a barrel of laughs, but it's very well done & very interesting. I thought I knew most of this through History Class in school, and many other TV shows & movies, but this goes into the details of the start of Naziism & of Hitler. It's fascinating to watch & see how he got to where he did. Odd fact I learned that kind of sent shivers up & down my spine: His slogan in the beginning was Make Germany Great Again. Anyhow, I've seen Part 1 & 2, and plan to watch Part 3 this coming week. I like these Story Behind the History multipart shows. I'm always fascinated by what I learn.

Apparently no one else here watches the PBS documentaries, but there's another really good one on now. It's another of those Ken Burns documentaries. 4 parts, 8 hours total with 2 hour segments.
This one is about Muhammad Ali. There's been a ton of shows/movies about his life, but this one is very detailed with many short interviews with his family/friends. It's not a fluff piece, but not a scandal show either. It shows a lot about his feelings/attitudes/& what drove him.(I never realized he was dyslexic.) So far I've seen Part 1 & Part 2. Tonight is #3. I think it's going to be repeated for at least a number of weeks.
The only problem is that it's on the same time as a few shows I watch & will have to skip them. I'm going to attempt to tape BIP tonight, but I'm not always successful with that. For some reason my TV won't tape PBS.
Anyhow, I HIGHLY recommend this.

MissScarlet, I happened to listen to two different podcasts this morning with Ken Burns- Full Release with Samantha Bee and Smartless with Sean Hayes, Will Arnett and Jason Bateman. In both, he did talk the Muhammad Ali doc, but he did cover different things in each. Both really worthwhile I'm just in awe of him as a person and an intellect. I definitely want to see the Muhammad Ali doc. Your dilemma with taping things is why I finally broke down and got DVR. I never thought I would, but I'll never go back. I can tape, I think, 6 things at once and then I can watch whenever I want! I'm going to set my DVR for the MA doc right now.

My VCR still works great, but being able to get decent tapes is darned near impossible. I've probably spent $100.00 to $150.00 buying tapes online in the past year & darned near all of them are defective. They get static, make grinding noises, or won't tape at all. They're completely unusable. Even the good ones aren't great. I think they just don't make them anymore & all that's left are old ones that are dried out. I'm tired of spending this much money just to maybe get 1 workable tape out of 8. I think it's time to break down & get the DVR.
