Katy Sagal, John Corbett & Andy Garcia. Anyone watch the debut last night? It’s based on the life of Erin Brockovich.

Looks like JC is playing a not-so-good guy. Have to say I really didn't care much for the show. The premise and her tougher-than-thou in-your-face attitude could get old fast. Might try one more time.

I'm all about Katey Sagal. Have been for years. She is fantastic. I'm not familiar with the rest of the cast, which is always a plus. Case in point, The Rookie. Not a big fan of police programs or violence and went in only knowing Nathan Fillion, but was quickly sucked in by the newbies on my screen. Erin Brockovich is larger than life so that's the role that Katey needs to play, and I think she's doing it well. It's a for me.

I did not know it was based on Erin's life and while watching it I kept thinking it was far too much like her (the movie at least) so I guess that makes sense. I love SO many people in the cast from her to John Corbett, to James Lesure, Kevin Zegers, Tamala Jones (who is just wonderful as Lana, has to be my fave character right now)and well we have Andy Freaking Garcia so, yeah, I watched initially just for that fact, still out on how I feel about it overall. I think the in your face attitude will get old fast, even if it was/is how Erin is IRL, it doesn't make for great TV week after week... a 2 hour movie, sure, but I am skeptical on the longevity of this show. That being said, I liked it well enough but there was a lot going on with all the introductions, the case building, the other case with her daughter, all the kids, all the exes, the lawyer recruitment, the divorce, oy!! Sigh I was exhausted by the end. Maybe after a couple weeks it will settle into a grove and it will not be so overwhelming.

I love Katey, but this show and the premise both feel super dated. I must be one of the only people in the world who hated Erin Brokovich.

I watched the rerun of the premiere episode and still found the constant badass attitude grating. I know she's supposed to be an Erin Brockovich character, but she needs to be portrayed with some nuance instead of one-dimensional because it's just too tedious. Maybe that will happen in future episodes, but I don't know if I'll be watching.
And maybe I'm the only one who's somewhat bothered by this, but she's supposed to be in her 60s (and Katy Sagall is in her late 60s), and all that plastic surgery, cleavage, and overly youthful tight clothing was just disingenuous...not that someone her age has to look or dress "old," but it's distracting and sends a negative message about what older women need to look like to still be considered powerful and attractive, which apparently is no older than 50ish.

Years ago, Simon Cowell was subbing for Regis with Kelly Ripa and they were talking about the Golden Globes fashion (it was the Monday morning after the GGs). Up came a pic of Lara Flynn Boyle in that pink ballet costume with the ribbons up her legs. Simon: "We call that 'mutton dressed as lamb.'" I never forgot it. IMO, too much plastic surgery and clothing that is clearly for a younger woman only makes you look older. Katey's a sexy, attractive woman. They don't need to dress her like a 22-year old hooker to make the point. She doesn't need to be in Alfred Dunner pant suits. They can dress her in a sexy, youthful way without making it look like she shops at Wet Seal.
I guess I thought we were past this tired trope of the older woman who's still sexy because she dresses like a young woman and shows off her cleavage. I'd say this show is written by a man, but I actually think it's a woman, which is even sadder.

Julia Roberts dressed that way in the movie. Why wouldn't Katey? They're both playing the same part.

They're not both playing the same part. Julia Roberts played Erin when Erin was in her 30s. Katy Sagal is playing the same type of character when that character is in her 60s.

Erin is barely 60, and she still dresses the same way.. so if they are keeping with the 'inspired by' it does fit. I don't have a huge issue with it to be honest.. I don't recall where they mentioned 'Rebel's' age so her manner of dress is neither here nor there in that respect. It is keeping with the Erin character and all.

John Corbett on Live said Katy is playing a woman in her 60s. Besides the wardrobe, my point also had to do with choosing an actress who is 67 but has had herself surgically enhanced to look 50, as if there's something wrong with looking 60+ but still playing a woman who is powerful and dynamic.

From the creator:
“I’m not sure everyone understands how much this show is not a traditional legal drama,” said Vernoff. “The show is very sexy. It’s 10:00 PM on ABC. It’s sexy, it’s family, it’s friendship, it’s all of the human interactions with a legal element.”

Will watch tonight and hope to see more of John Corbett!

I adore John Corbett! Just watched My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding the other day. Might have to start recording this because we're watching the new Law and Order series with Christopher Meloni, who's returned as Elliott Stabler.

That was a bad decision. I hate to say I agree...
It has really started to hit a stride lately even if there are still a few too many things happening at once. I find it funny that since it has been canceled that they are still doing things in support of it, or many that is a good thing? I do not know. There is an interview with Erin and her daughter (who looks JUST like her) this week, or was it on Friday I am not sure I just saw the promo while watching something but I DVR everything and never watch on the day it airs anymore. I do hope that they give a good wrap up this week with their 2 episodes airing.

Maybe another network will pick it up it had a very good cast. I know i was hard on it at the start, but I do hope that something happens for them.. because you are right, it has a great cast! I know it has been said here many times, by many people, but networks just do not give enough time anymore for a show to work the kinks out. Rebel still has some issues, but I think there is enough to take the chance on at this point in its run. But then again, I do not know the viewership numbers, I am too lazy to look it up lol

I wondered what happened as we are not being filled with ads for it..as happened at the start of the show. Sometimes the barrage of ads is just annoying.
