Stumptown U.S.A. - The chefs will be paired up to create a surf and turf dish featuring local fish and game for members of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla.
Enjoy the show!

This episode had a lot packed into it -- I'm surprised they didn't supersize it to 1-1/2 hours. Tom's presence at the Quickfire turned it in to something dramatic -- over mushrooms. Cocky Gabriel's win was also dramatic, especially considering how the episode ends. Sara and Shota were back on top, which made me happy. I'm sure they broke the record for number of times the word "smelt" was used in an episode (maybe even a season). I feel like the tribe representatives were kind of rushed through the episode. I like that we saw their invocation, but after that they didn't have a lot to say during service. And they were all gone by judges table. After the surprise eliminations (and the scene about Nelson's bum knee), Last Chance Kitchen is also packed (in fact, it's a two-part episode, but that's for the other thread)...

Watching season 1 on HULU and surprised the Lee Ann (the forever TC contestant?) and Tiffani (Sweet Pea)were in this competition. Fascinating characters.

^ Lee Ann ended up working for the show behind the scenes as a production coordinator before she came back for All Stars 2.
Tiffani started out as quite the villain on season 1. But she had a redemption of sorts on the first All Stars, and made a nice career for herself on the Food Network as a judge & competitive chef.
Interestingly, Padma was supposed to be the host all along, but she had a scheduling conflict with season 1, which is why Katie Lee Joel co-hosted instead.

I am watching today while I work! I never saw the complete season, nor season 2 if I think about it. It is funny to see how far the show has come from their beginnings.

Season 2 was ROUGH. It was a reality show more than a season of Top Chef with all the conflicting personalities and shouting matches. Between Marcel being Marcel and driving everyone crazy, and Cliff Floyd being generally smug and unpleasant (I can't watch his new FN show), and Ilan Hall being kinda douchey as well... plus a cheating scandal, and a chef being told to leave the show for getting physical on another chef... yikes. It was a baptism of fire for Padma.
Season 3 had its rough spots as well, but by season 4/5 they learned their lesson and just started casting better chefs who could back up their personalities with their cooking.

Ok maybe it was 3 I didn't see, because I LIKE Marcel lol and I remember his season. I also recall Ilan's license plate declaring his win too, if I am correct. I am having issues with SO many on season 1 lol. If I ever thought Gabriel was was a tool bag this season he is nothing compared to Stephen season 1.. if I was Candice I would have found another use for my melon-baler. I will take Gabriel over him any day!
edit: I take it back, 1 was the only season I missed!

I watched both this morning and LOL. Sometimes, you really see it come back around! :wink
Was really glad to see Dawn, Gabe, Shota, and Sara do well this week. I especially like Dawn...she might get a bit stressed, but she pulls it together and makes solid meals and the same for Gabe. Shota is my all-around fav though, and was glad to see him redeem himself after last week.

I was also very glad that The Elders got the opportunity to eat, and that they blessed their offerings and had a great time. The elderly one seemed like she enjoyed everything!
