This makes me so sad as I've always loved them together. I once saw them perform at a small venue on Long Island, maybe late 70s and they were terrific. Daryl also had a TV program called Daryl's House, or something like that, which was really good. I don't like that Daryl has said in interviews that John was never his creative partner, only business partner. I hope they can resolve whatever differences they are having.

Hall and Oates were very successful and all over MTV and the radio back in the day. How successful has Daryl Hall alone been? This is sad.

Oh man, I love Hall and Oates and even secretly enjoyed Daryl's House. While I know things have been strained over the years I thought they were ok with each other now. This is really, really sad.

Well that just makes me sad to read, I always thought they got along. I got to see them years ago, it was a fantastic concert. Hopefully they can settle their differences...

This isn't the first time Daryl's been shady towards John (downplaying his contributions, working conflicts, and other issues) but I just wrote it off as a familiarity breeding contempt situation and that they would eventually sort it out. This lawsuit is just beyond, however. Over the past few years Daryl has definitely given the impression that he really doesn't like John and is happy to be solo. Can you blame this man for wanting to sell his shares in their venture and just be done with him? I sure don't! It also doesn't surprise me that no arbitrator had been chosen to overlook this mess, because no one in their right mind would want to touch this.

That whole story is wild as hell. Trauma bonding is a real thing because apparently Lupita Nyong'o and Joshua Jackson are together now too! They've always been friends but bonded over their recent respective breakups, and good for them. I'm also wishing Andrew and Marilee good fortune as well because they got done dirty.

This happened with Shania Twain. Her husband had an affair with her best friend and then she (Shania) ended up dating, and eventually marrying, that woman’s ex.

It's interesting, but televising a lie detector test to capitalize on that poor bb dying? Really? Then again, I expect nothing less from Lifetime and A&E. I've noticed a trend on Hulu and Discover+ of cheap shows that basically sensationalize recent horrible events happening to people and I admit I feel a certain way about it. Even with a test nothing can be done; Casey can't be tried twice for that murder. It's a extremely cheap way to get views. Like you @momrek6 I also followed the trial but I'm giving this a hard pass.

It's an almost never occurrence that I side-eye anyone going to court regarding a child pornography claim, but there's legit claims and then there's....this. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/nirvana-child-porn-lawsuit-nevermind-album-cover-1234934692/Spencer Elden is the man who appeared on Nirvana's "Nevermind" album as a baby, and who has attempted to stretch his 15 minutes of fame by making live appearances in bars as the "Nirvana Baby," reenacting the photo as an adult, and signing copies of the album. Apparently something went down between him and Nirvana's legal team over this because he's been trying to sue them every since. The first lawsuit was because he said he never got paid as the model and was seeking a share of the profits from the album. Nirvana's legal team said yes, his parents were paid the standard amount you pay non-SAG children for a days shoot, so that lawsuit was found in favor of Nirvana. Then he sued again, saying the cover was child porn and he had pain and suffering as a result and deserved damages. The courts threw it out, saying that the statue of limitations had run out. He appealed it because the album had been rereleased for Nirvana's 30 year anniversary, and a three-judge panel on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit reversed the original decision, finding that “each republication” of an image “may constitute a new personal injury.” He's claimed that he had suffered “permanent harm” because of his association with the album, including emotional distress and a “lifelong loss of income-earning capacity (but of course did not say what his losses were)." I'm side-eying because I remember quite a few articles about his live appearances as "The Nirvana Baby," photo shoots, etc and he's not asking for anyone to go to jail, he's asking for money. He had no problem whatsoever profiting from being the Nirvana Baby but now that he can't, it's child porn now and he's been damaged? This is really messy. Also, while I'm aware people might not agree with me on this, I think there's a difference between a picture of a kid bathing, etc that a parent might take (which I think this picture would fall under) and child porn, and that's intent. Millions of people have this album, are they all guilty of having child porn? I'm quite curious about how the courts will rule this time.

I agree, Kao! I didn’t realize that he had a history of making money off of being the Nirvana baby, but I was thinking last night about how there’s nothing remotely sexual about a naked baby swimming in water, and it didn’t seem to me that he had a case.

I have that album and never did it cross my mind that it is child porn. I think he can't make money off of it anymore so now he is doing this.

Yes, I would say there's a HUGE difference between the Nirvana Baby image (a child swimming naked in a pool) and the sort of photographs Eva Ionseco's mother took of her under the guise of "art" when she was four. I'm no prude and have no problem with nudity in art, but there's art and then there's things made through a sexual lens, and poor Eva's situation was the latter. purple.fr/magazine/paris-issue-31/eva-ionesco/Eva was eventually removed from her mother's care and became a very successful actress, filmmaker, and writer when she was an adult. No one removed Spencer Elden from his parent's care because of that baby picture, and he profited as an adult because of that image. I'm not sure what went down between him and Nirvana's legal team but after a certain point the appearances stopped and he started suing. I'm very curious about what direction this case is going to take.

Color me surprised that Margot and Greta were snubbed. Full list here. Oscar nominations: How did your favorite films fare?
Marcus James Dixon @marcusdixon Film January 23, 2024 5:00AM
Nominations for the 96th Academy Awards were announced before the sun came up in Beverly Hills on Tuesday, January 23 by Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid. Heading into the morning, Gold Derby’s 2024 Oscar predictions had “Oppenheimer” reaping an atomic 13 bids, which turned out to be true. Meanwhile, the other half of this summer’s “Barbenheimer” phenomenon, “Barbie,” was expected to garner 10 citations, but it had to settle with just eight. So how did your favorite films fare? Read on for our Oscar nominations report, broken down by film.
“Oppenheimer” – 13 nominations Universal Pictures’ “Oppenheimer” stars Cillian Murphy as J. Robert Oppenheimer, aka the father of the atomic bomb. It made a whopping $952 million worldwide, cementing its status as one of the most lucrative biopics in box office history. Filmmaker Christopher Nolan has long been considered “overdue” for an Oscar win after previously earning bids for writing “Memento” (2001), writing and producing “Inception” (2010), and directing and producing “Dunkirk” (2017). Will he finally claim victory this year for “Oppenheimer”? Its 13 nominations are for picture, director (Nolan), adapted screenplay, actor (Murphy), supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), supporting actress (Emily Blunt), cinematography, costume design, film editing, makeup & hairstyling, production design, score and sound.
“Poor Things” – 11 nominations “Poor Things” is another film that Gold Derby’s experts, editors and users collectively thought would score big on Tuesday morning. The Searchlight Pictures comedy, directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Tony McNamara, is a coming-of-age story with an eye-popping twist, as Emma Stone inhabits the role of Bella Baxter, a woman with the mind of a child. Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe also star as her manipulative new beau and her caring father figure, respectively. Its 11 nominations are for picture, director (Lanthimos), adapted screenplay, actress (Stone), supporting actor (Ruffalo), cinematography, costume design, film editing, makeup & hairstyling, score and production design.
SEECillian Murphy (‘Oppenheimer’): Exclusive Video Interview
“Killers of the Flower Moon” – 10 nominations Despite the Martin Scorsese film about the Osage Nation murders being snubbed for lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio and for its screenplay, it still wound up with double-digit citations. DiCaprio takes on the role of real-life baddie Ernest Burkhart, who marries Osage woman Mollie Burkhart (Lily Gladstone) at the behest of influential crime boss William King Hale (Robert De Niro). Its 10 nominations are for picture, director (Scorsese), actress (Gladstone), supporting actor (De Niro), cinematography, costume design, film editing, score, song (“Wahzhazhe – A Song For My People”) and production design.
“Barbie” – 8 nominations With $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office, Warner Bros’ “Barbie” is the most successful film ever to be directed by a woman, Greta Gerwig. Shockingly, Gerwig was snubbed for Best Director in one of the morning’s biggest head-scratchers. Her fantasy comedy tells the story of Stereotypical Barbie (Margot Robbie, also weirdly snubbed) and Beach Ken (Ryan Gosling) as they travel to the real world to try to discover the truth about humanity. Its eight nominations are for picture, adapted screenplay, supporting actor (Gosling), supporting actress (America Ferrera), costume design, song (“I’m Just Ken”), song (“What Was I Made For”) and production design.
“Maestro” – 7 nominations The Netflix biopic about American composer Leonard Bernstein (Bradley Cooper) and his wife Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan) conducted itself to seven total bids, including Cooper himself as a producer, actor and co-writer (along with Josh Singer). Cooper is now a 12-time nominee without an Oscar — will that change this year? Its seven nominations are for picture, original screenplay, actor (Cooper), actress (Mulligan), cinematography, makeup & hairstyling and sound.
“American Fiction” – 5 nominations Cord Jefferson‘s first-ever feature film was a hit on the festival circuit, and now it has been noticed five times by Oscar voters. Jeffrey Wright stars as an author who finds wild success after he starts writing more “Black,” and Sterling K. Brown plays his estranged brother. Its five nominations are for picture, actor (Wright), supporting actor (Brown), adapted screenplay and score.
SEE 2024 Oscar nominations: Full list of contenders in all 23 categories
“Anatomy of a Fall” – 5 nominations Actress Sandra Hüller and filmmaker Justine Triet may not have been household names to American audiences before this awards season, but now they are both Oscar nominees. The French movie about the investigation into a mysterious death was not submitted by the country for inclusion in the Best International Feature Film category, or else “Anatomy of a Fall” would likely find itself with six bids this year. Its five nominations are for picture, director (Triet), actress (Huller), original screenplay and film editing.
“The Holdovers” – 5 nominations Alexander Payne‘s latest movie takes place in the 1970s when a lonely teacher, played by Paul Giamatti, has to watch after several schoolboys over the holidays. Scene-stealer Da’Vine Joy Randolph, as the bereaved lunch lady, has won countless awards already for her breakout role. Its five nominations are for picture, actor (Giamatti), supporting actress (Randolph), original screenplay and film editing.
“The Zone of Interest” – 5 nominations English auteur Jonathan Glazer wrote and directed this emotional film about a Nazi commander (Rudolf Höss) who is living the dream with his wife (Hüller) next door to the Auschwitz concentration camp during the Holocaust. Its five nominations are for picture, director (Glazer), adapted screenplay, international feature film and sound.
“Past Lives” – 2 nominations Celine Song‘s semi-autobiographical movie stars Greta Lee as Nora Moon and Teo Yoo as Hae Sung, a pair of childhood friends who begin to reevaluate their relationship now that they’re adults. Its two nominations are for picture and original screenplay.

I see Bradley Cooper's campaigning paid off. I'm annoyed that Nyad got in there, because I would have swapped other people in for Jodie and Annette. :/
Also glad that France's shadiness towards Justine Triet didn't completely screw her or the movie over.

Justin Timberlake continues to be an awful piece of garbage. A few days ago, Britney Spears posted on her Instagram that she wanted to "apologize to anyone who felt offended by anything she wrote about in her book, as she still has a lot of love and respect for everyone" and complimented Justin on his new song. What does Justin do as a response? He screams out "I'd like to apologize to “absolutely f***ing nobody” before performing ‘Cry Me a River’ in NYC last night. How tacky and [censored] can you get? She offers that man an olive branch and he slaps her instead. He continues to be a trash barrel that uses her for publicity. Ugh.

It's not petty. He's a small man with a small mind who thinks only of himself. Gossip columist Lainey was absolutely right about him when she said this YEARS AGO: "And it’s amazing to me, AMAZING, that there are people out there who are still not on to him. That don’t know, they have no idea, that he’s a f-cking parasite and has been from the very beginning. That he grows off everyone else. He grew off his bandmates, he grew off Britney, he grew off Janet Jackson, he grew off Cameron Diaz, he grew off Timbaland, and even after he grew so big that he’s now self-sustained by his own stardom, he keeps looking for opportunities to suck off anyone and anything around him so that he can keep growing."
Note: Here is the full article for the lols:
He's getting absolutely cooked online by a LOT of people who would have given him grace back in the early aughts (where he was on radio shows describing his sex life with Britney in detail). It's no surprise to me that he's recently developed "the flu" in the middle of his publicity campaign for his new song (which isn't doing very well on the charts) because he's a coward at heart who dishes it out but can't take it. When even the people who don't like Britney and had nasty things to say about her being from the South/general intelligence level in the past are saying "Why would he say that when she was so kind to him and complimented his new song? That's STANK" you know you've messed up.

Exactly! What kind of grownup spits in the face of someone who offers them an olive branch. He's such a piece of scum. (The polite version of what I'd really like to say.)

Post by Kao on Feb 9, 2024 19:44:58 GMT
I've disliked him ever since he left Janet holding the bag in Nipplegate and grew to absolutely loathe him when he decided to be self-serving and do a Prince tribute at the Superbowl, despite saying nasty things about Prince in the past and knowing that Prince deeply disliked him when he was alive. He also wanted a AI version of Prince singing with him onstage while knowing Prince hated everything about holograms of people who were dead. That's not even counting the "joke" about the houseless video that was made for his wedding. He's a truly repugnant person and a giant tick who has sucked on everyone to get to where he is now, and he's still doing the same strategy he used in the aughts towards trashing people to gain attention for himself. The problem is people don't think that type of behavior is cute anymore.
What's interesting is they're claiming his upcoming tour is "sold out" but looking at the venues here and in L.A. there are an awful lot of tickets that are on Ticketmaster's "resale" market. Hmmmm...
edit: Checked his Madison Square Garden stop and there's a bunch of seats still available. Couldn't happen to a nicer person...
