The 500 billion was vastly overdone, but got them media attention whch I think was the point of it all.
I also thought that 7 agents knocking on the actress' door at 6 am with guns drawn to arrest her as was the $1,000,000 bail of the other was way, way overdone.
And I really don't want to hear any apologies......they mean nothing just like the apologies that public figures make when they have said something politically incorrect......

Have any of the people indicted publicly apologized? I would imagine that their attorneys will have advised them against that. Would that be like admitting guilt? I'm just guessing. I'm used to celebrities doing those apology tours. It makes sense that their lawyers would tell them not to speak. That may hurt their cases.

Have any of the people indicted publicly apologized? I read a description of Lori when she appeared in court the other day as ‘defiant.’ I sure hope that was just sensationalism. Girl better be remorseful.

How did this get outed anyway? A guy who was being charged for some other unrelated crime and was a client of Singer's cut a plea for telling them about this fraud. Then Singer rolled and turned in all his clients for a plea deal. Actually, he went beyond that and actively worked with authorities to entrap his clients, I think. EDITED TO ADD: Just saw this article. jezebel.com/yale-dad-who-exposed-college-bribery-ring-was-being-inv-1833310428/amp

Yes, because if they say sorry it means 1) they know they did something wrong and 2) it implies they are guilty, or they would have nothing to apologize for. Jusr guessing here, but I'm assuming the others apologizing didn't commit crimes.

Quoting myself. LOL I just wanted to say that I don't know who their PR person is, but this self-pity is not a good look. First, they say that they are keeping the girls out of school for fear of being bullied, and now they want us to know that they are living a nightmare. While both things may be true, playing the victim here isn't really a good idea considering how pissed people are right now.

Boo-Hoo x 2 Re the Loughlin family, my sympathy goes out to the girl who got up before the crack of dawn. stayed after school late into the evening, and spent weekends on the river perfecting her position on the crew team. And then dreaming of one day of being accepted to USC for a top tier education and the opportunity to be apart of the crew team. From every family that I know who have kids who compete at this level, their time and money sacrifices are great. A little remorse from the parents and daughters would be nice to see, but it appears that their only remorse is that they were caught.

IMO, a rich guy donating to a school so his kid may get in is totally different in more ways than just legalities. At least when rich daddy gives enough money that his name goes on a building other students benefit from that, not just his kid. When rich daddy contributes to an endowment, other future students will benefit. Even if it's to gain a college name-drop opportunity, the school and students can benefit. In this recent fraud case it did not benefit either the school or other students.
Even if rich daddy's kids aren't the brightest bulbs on the Christmas tree, that's okay as long as they are legitimately passing their entrance exams and college classes. Lots of colleges bring in student athletes to garner money for the school. Athletes traditionally aren't the ones getting the best grades, but they bring in money for the school, in a similar way that rich kids' dads garner money for the schools.
That's one thing that's been on my mind. Another is how terribly disturbing Olivia's case in particular is to me. She didn't really want to go, made that perfectly clear to everyone, yet got pressured to go by parents who were willing (allegedly) to commit crimes to assure themselves she went to the school of their choosing... when she was already doing what she loved to do, and apparently was quite good at if all the sponsors were willing to sign her on. Why did they do this to her and themselves? Why did she need to go to school this year? I don't think she's quite innocent, but obviously it wasn't her idea or passion. Did they threaten to cut off support if she didn't go? Now her sponsors are leaving in droves and she probably will never achieve that same success in doing a job she loved. (On top of that her parents may be facing jail.) I truly hope other parents are taking notice of this, and pay attention to what their kids want to do, especially if they are already making a business from it. Don't "they" say 'find what you love to do, and then find a way to get paid for it.' Her job wasn't exactly life-changing, but she loved it.
I am also curious about other stories, not just Felicity's and Lori's. It would be interesting to me to get more details. Maybe as the cases are worked through court there will be a broader scope.

Bill McGlashan was with Bono in January on CNBC talking about their "ethical" investment firm that would not invest in guns, tobacco or fossil fuels. He was on the college cheating list.

I'm not saying that what Lori Loughlin & Felicity Huffman wasn't & shouldn't be a crime, but I can't help but think: Lori Loughlin & Felicity Huffman and others are facing twenty some year jail sentences or even more for this crooked scam to get their kids into exclusive colleges, but meanwhile Harvey Weinstein is out there running free. Just sayin'

Just sayin' I’ve had similar thoughts. IMO, what Robert Kraft was caught doing a few weeks ago was far worse that this scandal. Both are crimes, but I see engaging in sex trafficking as far worse. Makes me a bit sad that people are so much more fixated over disgust for these crimes.

I am guessing and I am thinking the reason the country has been fixated on this "college" scam case is because probably more than 60%-70% of the country can relate to the fact that we all have relatives, friends, acquaintances
that have worked their tails off and applied to the top (or their first choice) colleges in the country only to be told "wait list" or a "no" or a "yes" but then could not afford it ..... while these rich celebrity families just dangled LARGE AMOUNTS of money
in front of someone and that someone made it happen for these RICH kids to get into the colleges of their choice.
Now sex trafficking, while it is absolutely shocking, horrid and appalling that this is happening, I think people read about it and hope and pray that the perpetrators of these crimes get what they deserve (serious jail time)
and this goes for the likes of Harvey Weinstein, Robert Kraft, R. Kelly and all sexual offenders in this country. And then put it out of the minds because it does not apply to them like this "college" scam.
(And remember it did happen for Bill Cosby but it did take FOREVER to get him convicted so I hope HW and RK and R. Kelly's days are numbered). I really think we will start to see convictions being handed down sooner than later.
These are just my thoughts on it.

IMO the crimes we should be most concerned about are the ones that dehumanize rather than the ones that directly impact us. I think we make the world better when we protect the humanity of all instead of getting fixated on our own material fairness.

I am still trying to figure out Jussie Smollett and his "hate crime" case. He pleaded not guilty this week and yet the evidence makes him look so guilty. That is another crime up there with sex trafficking that dehumanizes people.

Hi Kar. Actually not, and that's my point! That pic is recent! It was taken in Mexico last month or thereabouts! Last month, Ripa found herself reminiscing about her recent trip to Mexico with the Riverdale star. “One week ago we were warm and on the same coast for 24 hours……..i love that story,” Ripa wrote alongside a shot of her and her husband of nearly 23 years cuddling up together on a sandy beach.
