The Top 5 - The top five travel to Las Vegas to perform two songs, leaving it all on the stage to land a spot in the grand finale. The idol hopefuls are mentored by 2005 winner Carrie Underwood.
Enjoy the show!

Carrie's so pretty. I loved seeing the old footage of her on the show and her audition tape.
Huntergirl was up first, and supposedly "brought the sass" which I didn't see as much, but her singing sounded good.
Leah is looking pretty in a very feminine floral dress. "I'll Stand By You" sounded a little warbly for me, but there were many good parts too. She looks very happy.
The venue looks HUGE! I wonder if that's intimidating?

This is not Fritz's best performance. He's loving it, loves the song and seems to be having fun, but he doesn't sound his best. Not only that, he was getting drowned out by the music and background singers at times. At the end, it had its good moments reminding me of why I like him, but it wasn't his best in my opinion.
ETA: he dropped his Dungeons and Dragons tidbit, Katy thinks that will get him more votes. Nerds united for Fritz! LOL

What I could hear of Noah doing "So Small" sounded good, which was when the accompaniment paused. Otherwise it was really hard to hear him. I wonder if it's the place they're doing it, making it so hard to hear them? I don't think Huntergirl or Leah were hard to hear though. It's too bad he didn't make it on their trip, but it was cute how they propped up a picture of him here and there! Now it sounded like they're in their same studio (?) so maybe I got that wrong and it's not a new venue. Oops. I should pay attention better! hahaha

Nicolina doesn't let ANYTHING drown her out! She did a great job with "Blown Away"! That girl has tons of talent, and she's so young! Good for her. I sure hope she makes the top 3; they're cutting two tonight! Ha, Ryan tries out the wind machine with a black cape like Nic.

Any hope Huntergirl goes home? She seems to me to be already crowned and that bugs me. Threw my votes to Noah. I love his style.

Next round: Epic encores, songs to "close" their shows, is the theme. Leah's up first. Seeing her earlier rounds and her talking about being quirky and weird, highlights how beautiful her makeover has made her! She's singing Journey, "Separate Ways" but it's very different and hard to tell it's the same song at first. She picks it up as it goes on though, and it's pretty good. Judges go on and on, loving it. She really wants to go to the Hometown visit. I like how personable she is, she always seems to be having fun, has good responses and is chatty. Huntergirl chooses Little Big Town's "Girl Crush." It's really good, because I think she's sounding a little less "the same" as she usually does - this song is different. I actually enjoyed her more this time! Judges call her a star. Fritz sums up his experience as "growth" and is proud of himself. He sings 5 Seconds of Summer "Youngblood" and is wearing a leather jacket! It's quite the contrast from his Where's Waldo sweater flashback they showed a few seconds earlier! LOL! He also has shorter pants, white socks, and black shoes on (MJ-ish). Wow. Anyway, he rocks it out and sounds pretty good. Lots of energy. Katy goes crazy how cool he looks, asks if he's in the Strokes or Ramones or something? No guitar for once! Nicolina is doing an Adele song, "All I Ask" and wants to show her sisters that dreams do come true! She does an amazing job, such a powerhouse. Even she's brought to tears by the song! Adele is one of her heroes. Judges seem to like it, like her, act like they don't even know what to say to her anymore, so they just don't do much - it's kinda disappointing, compared to how they react to say, Huntergirl. Noah finishes up the show with Larry Fleet's "Working Man" which I guess fits him since he did construction before he came on this show. They show him from his not-very-confident self, now coming into his own. This song sounds good, it's just him and his guitar (mostly, background is quiet thankfully). I like his voice. Katy says he 'aced that test" but Lionel just says, If you want this guy, vote! Luke says him on a guitar can hold any room in any world he's in. It's interesting how they react so differently to them. Votes will be totaled and revealed coming up.... First in: Huntergirl Next: Noah Last: Leah! Oh crap - no Nicolina?? Wow. That's a shock. Three hour finale next week!

I was very sorry to see Nicolina go---she was great on both her songs.
I guess we will get another WGWG as the winner-- be it girl or guy. I see Noah being the winner although I think he is just a good singer. I think the whole baby thing as well as having a sweet smile and having the Mayberry attitude will take him over to top....but these guys have not had huge success once they have won.
Loved Leah's performances tonight while I was less pleased with her last week. She really has to stop the falling down.....we have seen that bit too many times so now it looks fake.

Well that sucked. I may have to give up on idol if it is going to be so heavily country

It does seem like they're pushing for a country winner this year. I was pretty shocked that both Nicolina and Fritz were booted before the finale, I'd rather one of them take Huntergirl's place. I just don't get her appeal.

The judges do seem to really push both Noah and Huntergirl. Female country singers like Gabby and Lauren have had more success than any of the country boys. I know he was popular but I personally was not a fan of Fritz, but I really liked Nicolina so I hope she will be one of those non-winners who do really well.

I'm not a country music fan by any means, but I do think Noah easily has the best voice of those remaining.

I will always go for the quirky girl Luckily this finalist has a wonderful voice and an understanding of vocal styling. I'm ok with the three, but would have preferred the quirky boy.

As a sidenote---If your PBS is showing the Library of Congress' tribute to Lionel, be sure to watch it. It is primarily a concert of his songs after the awarding is out of the way----so great that I was smiling during the whole thing. Luke performed LADY. While he doesn't have Kenny's distinctive voice, he did a great job. Lionel performed WE ARE THE WORLD---I forgot how moving and powerful the lyrics are.....and they have a huge meaning for us today under entirely different circumstances. It brought me to tears!!
