This thread is for posting news and opinions about the upcoming season, premiering Monday, January 23rd. DO NOT USE THIS THREAD FOR POSTING ANY SPOILERS. There will be a separate thread in the forum for posting spoilers. --------------------------- Who Is the Next Bachelor 2023? It's Zach Shallcross! After a heartbreaking self-elimination from Gabby and Rachel's season of "The Bachelorette," Zach Shallcross's journey to find love will continue when he steps in as leading man for the upcoming 27th season of "The Bachelor." After an emotional realization about his future with Rachel Recchia, Shallcross won Bachelor Nation's affection when he chose to remove himself from her remaining group of suitors. The charismatic California native will begin handing out roses when the season premieres MONDAY, JAN. 23 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. Watch episodes on demand and on Hulu the day following their premieres. The announcement was made by host Jesse Palmer during the emotional live finale of Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia's season of "The Bachelorette." An endearing 26-year-old tech executive from Anaheim Hills, California, Shallcross stole Bachelor Nation's heart on season 19 of "The Bachelorette" with his quiet charm, wit and openness to finding lasting love. Audiences saw Shallcross put himself and his desire to meet "the one" first when he emotionally self-eliminated, opening the door for his "person" to walk through. Born and raised in California, Shallcross loves beach volleyball, football, his dogs and, of course, his mom but knows he has much more love to give, and he's ready to add "life partner" to that list. "The Bachelorette" is a production of Next Entertainment and Warner Bros. Unscripted Television in association with Warner Horizon. Mike Fleiss, Martin Hilton, Nicole Woods, Bennett Graebner, Louis Caric, Peter Geist, Peter Gust, Tim Warner, Jodi Baskerville and Jeff Thomas are the executive producers.

I really wish this unshaven look would go back out of style. I hate it. It makes men look unkempt.

It’s not my favorite look, but I don’t mind it. I just wouldn’t want to spend time kissing someone with that stubble. It would cause major “burns.”

Geez, that writer just doesn't care for Zach, does she?

This is big. Mike Fleiss is leaving the Bach franchise. I know he hasn't been as involved in recent years, but his influence is still there. I guess will see if his departure has any effect, positive or negative.

ET Canada interview of the happy couple. They seem happy and relaxed.
"Speaking with ET Canada, "The Bachelor" Zach Shallcross and his fiancée Kaity Biggar joke about the Kingston, Ont., native's "Canadianisms" he noticed during their time on the show together. Plus, they share more wedding details and react to the drama "After The Final Rose"."

Now it's really coming out. Fleiss didn't just retire or move on voluntarily. He was pushed out after a history of crappy behavior, including racial discrimination, bullying and all around a-hole behavior. This is not a surprise. I don't think anyone could say, "Gosh, he seems like such a nice guy."
Not the greatest source and not the best bachelor, but this article has a quote from Juan Pablo, who apparently didn't like Chris Harrison OR Mike Fleiss.

That’s really interesting. I’m glad he’s gone —depending on who they bring in next.
Juan Pablo. Though — ugh
I’m impressed with Jesse however. He really seems to have “ mensched out” as they say

He really seems to have “ mensched out” as they say I'm glad Fleiss is gone too. He always seemed like a horrible guy, to me. I'm liking Jesse very much too! In the past I never cared for him, either as The Bachelor or on his other shows, but here, he seems genuinely warm and caring, and he's a really good host. I still miss Chris Harrison very much, and I feel that Chris never should have lost his job over that one comment that he made during the height of the "cancel-culture" firings, but Jesse has turned out to be a really good replacement for Chris, so that's a good thing.

If it weren't for Jesse Palmer, I don't think I would be watching the show anymore. It's ridiculous that they got rid of Chris Harrison, just because he stuck up for Rachel when it was discovered her sorority threw a "racially insensitive" themed party 3 years prior to her being on the bachelor. It's funny that people forget that Jimmy Kimmel wore blackface when he was on The Man Show. His show is still on the air, he didn't get canceled. I watch some of the old seasons on the WB reality channel on Tubi sometimes. There were definitely worse bachelors then Juan Pablo. I also read that Katie Thurston was stomping her feet & throwing a fit before her season started if Chris Harrison was gonna be the host. I guess it wasn't gonna be a "safe space" for her. I have nothing against Tayisha and Kaitlyn but they were terrible hosts during her season. I also didn't enjoy the celebrity guest hosts on that summer's BIP

I'm soooo glad you said what you did. You had the courage to actually say what I was only alluding to! I totally agree that, whether one liked him or not, Chris Harrison may have said something questionable on one occasion, but it wasn't a horrible statement at all, and he never should've been fired for it! And PS, I also thought Tayisha and Kaitlyn were not very good hosts, but I have to give the producers props for trying. Same, for the BIP's celebrity hosts.

I am about to skip this one. Sounds irretrievably condescending. "Golden years," "senior citizen," or just plain "senior" are phrases that I find insufferable. Why is it always so important to make a point out of the age of people beyond a certain age? It's like they enter into some state of half-wittedness that must always be noted so when they inevitably get muddled someone will be ready to help. I hope I''m wrong, but if it's along those lines, I'll pass..

I think it could be fun but the above-referenced article says it starts at 10PM. So.. in other words...I am too old to stay awake through a program about seniors. Of course, I have the option of watching it on the channel website the following week, but I was hoping to get back to posting with all of you in real time.

That’s ironic, Cuddles, that the senior edition is on too late for you. LOL

I think this show sounds very interesting! Maybe, just maybe it will be more successful finding a match than the original show.

When is the elder show supposed to take place. Isn't Shallcross' season a regular one?

Good question, Arielflies! We've got the Bachelorette and Paradise coming up, so I doubt it could air before fall. And with the holidays, I'm wondering if there's time for the seniors show before the next Bachelor, which usually airs at the beginning of the year, doesn't it?

YUP! They do have other nights of the week if the scripted shows are held up into the fall. Who knows.

There have been commercials for the Golden Bachelor series, and at first I was seeing a lot of people hoping/asking about Gabby's grandpa. Then today I saw another commercial, and the voiceover said he's "never been on TV before" thus shutting down those rumors. First episode on September 1st, I've read (ETA: but that's a Friday, and ET said it will air on Monday nights. So...who knows). I checked Reality Steve, and these are the items he has on it (nothing too spoilerish, but just in case): {Golden Bachelor} Those asking about the Golden Bachelor, here’s all I know:
-Don’t know his name -White, late 50’s/early 60’s -Kinda resembles Robert Redford -Not a celebrity -No Bachelor Nation connections that I’m aware of -No int’l travel for his season
Official announcement on GMA Monday

I hate that they consider late 50's "golden." But I'm looking forward to this one. Supposedly he's really good-looking...we'll see.

The preview of the guy's chest, with his hand reaching up, looks like a pretty young hand. Can't see his face, but it's his hand, according to some reporter on ET. And there are no age spots! LOL

LOL He's actually 71, and as much as it pains me at the same age, I have to admit that is legitimately "golden." He's not my type, but he's pretty handsome. Here's an interview with him. You can judge for yourself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6isb2o07Uw
