Exactly. Plus that would be some seriously lazy writing if they went that route.
Who knows when we'll get the next season with the strike and all...at least we have Daryl to look forward to.

And the Richonne series! That's a ways off, but they did finish shooting a few months ago, so the strike won't affect it.

OMG, the Daryl Dixon premiere was SO GOOD! I'm going to have to watch it an least one more time, because I'm sure I missed things.
I loved the scenery and how different it felt from the flagship series. I enjoyed everything about it. I love Clemence Poesy, so I was thrilled to see her taking what seems to be a prominent role going forward. I'm also glad they did show a bit of how Daryl got to France. I do hope they continue to flesh that part of the story out and explain how he got snatched up by those people. The "chosen one" child thing could be cheesy if not handled well. I'm going to trust that they're going to handle it well. I do like the young actor they cast and that's often more than half the battle with child actors.
Loved the little flashbacks of Judith and Carol and the others.
I read an interview with Norman and he said that many of the performers they hired to be walkers on this new show are dancers, so even their movements are different. Oh, and we've gotten a new kind of walker - the burner. That was freaky. Maybe we'll see what happens to someone who doesn't have their burns essentially burned off like Daryl did.
The season preview was great. I'm totally in!
It looks like Sunday night is a Norman Reedus takeover on AMC, with his Daryl series and Ride right after. That first episode of Ride was lots of fun with Keanu Reeves. I never thought about him doing that show, but it makes total sense. Plus, they both seem like normal, kind people.

Loved the premiere! Definitely a different feel - the church grounds looked really familiar, for some reason. Interested to see where they go with the kid, and the acid oozing walkers. Gross.

OMG, all the little French kids saying "Nanu Nanu" I love those sorts of weird, specific moments.
I liked that we got to see some of Isabel's backstory and what the beginning of the Fall in France was like. All those moments after the club at night were so ominous. We've seen characters see their first walkers before in the other series, but in such a different setting it felt new.
"Father Daryl" I half expected his blessing to be something we heard Gabriel say in one of his sermons.

"Father Daryl" cracked me up. He gave a decent blessing, though! I've always liked the scenes showing the beginning of the outbreak...but a C-section on someone who just turned is new territory.

It's one of the things I loved about FTWD when it started. We never really saw that in WD, so that was our first glimpse of the beginning.
I like that they've given Isabelle a nice, juicy (so far!) back story. I think it would be less interesting if she was just a nun. Plus, those first few beats of "Blue Monday" in that club scene got me a little giddy.
I've seen some stories bagging on this show for "stealing" the plot from The Last of Us, but this show was already mid-way through filming when TLOU came out. What were they supposed to do? Scrap the footage and start over? If they're both done well - and I think they are - then who cares?
I really do hope we see Carol next season and then they're both able to go home. IMO, this series doesn't need to go on forever and it probably would be better if it didn't. I also REALLY want a Rick/Daryl reunion before the end of the franchise.

Okay, that walker orchestra is one of the creepier things we've seen in this franchise! That conductor is one sick puppy.
I had a feeling we'd be seeing Quinn again after Isabelle and her sister stole his car last week. I like that Daryl stood up for her in that situation.
I can't even begin to imagine how they're going to finish the season. Will Daryl end up being captured and held hostage by Ms. Evil Doctor? Will be and Isabelle end up escaping with Laurent OR trying to save him? I think it's pretty sure that Daryl won't end up on a boat back home, but maybe that's how they'll finish the show, whenever it's done.
I'm still really enjoying the different feel to this series.

Yesss that walker orchestra was all kinds of messed up. I don't know how they'll end this one, but I wish poor Daryl would stop getting beat up. And I'm enjoying some actual dialogue from him since most of what we got on Walking Dead was grunts and short sentences.

Loved Daryl going medieval on the bad guys with that flail. I'm confused about Laurent - the first group of walkers swarmed around and ignored him while he was praying, but the ones at the ruined Eiffel Tower "saw" him. I thought maybe he was immune to attack since his mom had turned, but...maybe not?

I don't know what that means re: Laurent. I'll be curious to see if that turns into anything.

I had a long work weekend, so I totally forgot the show was on! I was already in bed when it aired! I finally got to watch it this afternoon. LONG episode, which is great. The more the better and they packed a TON into that episode.
CAROL! Even just as a voice on the radio, I was thrilled. Now we wait to find out who came back. I'm not optimistic about the reveal happening this season. Since she took over Lance's job when we last saw her, she's likely at the Commonwealth. Could it be Morgan? I mean, I want it to be Rick and Michonne, but could it be that simple? We know Morgan said he was on the way back to Alexandria to find Rick, but he didn't know that a) Rick has "died"/disappeared and b) many of the community aren't living at Alexandria any more.
I'm glad we got more of Daryl's story and how he ended up in France. I knew we'd eventually find out what happened, but it sort of annoyed me to read reviews complaining about how the showrunners just expect us to accept that Daryl just randomly ended up in France. I mean, we accepted that the dead are walking the earth, so I don't get the big deal about France. Also, have some patience, people! It's a serialized drama.
Those new souped up walkers are terrifying and that cliffhanger was cruel!
I loved it when he mentioned Connie! I wish we'd seen more of that friendship/relationship. She really brought out his sweet side.
I've loved how France has been a character in the show. I can't wait to see The Nest aka Mont St. Michel next week but I'm also sad because it's the season finale. I want more!

There was a LOT in that episode. How is the finale next week?? I may have squealed when he was on the radio with Carol. I don't know who came back...Morgan, Rick? Carol didn't sound terribly happy. Loved the scenes of Daryl causing havoc on the boat but who thought the world needed super zombies?! Ugh. Was this a one and done series or are we getting a second season?

Loved the scenes of Daryl causing havoc on the boat but who thought the world needed super zombies?! Ugh. Was this a one and done series or are we getting a second season? I saw some speculation online that it might be Dwight, but since Daryl said he'd kill Dwight if he ever saw him again, I think that's not happening. Dwight wouldn't know that Daryl isn't there any more. Agreed that it didn't sound like she was super excited. What else could come back? Locusts?
Hopefully, we'll get an extra long finale because, yeah, there's a LOT to wrap up or at least address with just one episode left.
I get that Quinn still seems to love Isabelle, but I really want him to go down. Maybe he'll help Daryl and Issa and then get killed.
Those super zombies are terrifying, especially after the slow walkers we're used to seeing.
The show got renewed for season two before it even started airing (likely based on viewer/critic reaction to Dead City), so we'll be getting more! The only spinoff series I think will likely be one and done is the Richonne series.

OMG, that was one of the most satisfying finales ever! Almost everything I wanted to happen happened....with the exception of an actual Carol/Daryl reunion, which obviously, they're holding until next season.
I love that we got more of Daryl's story. That scene of soldiers at Normandy didn't make sense until he talked about his grandfather. I love that they did that AND that he found his grandfather's headstone. I mean, what are the odds, but you knew he was going to find it.
Quinn went out almost like I hoped he would - doing something at least semi-noble. Then, of course, he came back as a walker and almost killed Isabelle and maybe Laurent
That fight scene was bananas. They wouldn't have had as easy a time if those super zombies hadn't malfunctioned! I loved Daryl tossing the head up to Genet. Clearly, she's going to still be the big bad next season. I really want to see her try to contend with CAROL! She won't know what hit her.
OMG, can we talk about CAROL!? I knew it was her in that car! That wasn't a very long scene, but SO satisfying. If he lied, she won't come back Now she's on the hunt for Daryl! It's only a matter of time before she's in France and finding Daryl at the exact right time. It'll be the most satisfying TV reunion since Jon and Sansa at the Wall!
The great news about season 2 is that they were already filming before this season started AND, because they're in France, the SAG-AFTRA strike didn't affect the production. I haven't seen anything about a premiere date. I'd guess it's coming after season 2 of Dead City, depending on where they are in the filming schedule for season 2. If they've been hampered by the strike, the Daryl series might air first.
I hate to say it, but FTWD next week is going to feel like a letdown. The producers on that show have ruined it. I'm still watching though and hoping that the return of Troy Otto will improve things.
ETA: OMG, there's already a teaser trailer for season 2!

CAROL! Yeah when they cut to some rando dude cruising down the road with that car racing up behind him, that HAD to be Carol. Loved that scene. And loved Daryl planting the French flag in that zombie's head, then slinging another head up at Genet. That whole gladiator fight scene, Daryl finding his grandfather's grave...a very well done finale. Looking forward to the next season. I gave up on FTWD a long time ago, they really screwed that series up.

I gave up on FTWD a long time ago, they really screwed that series up. I remembered that you stopped watching, but with Madison back AND Troy Otto showing up (and Morgan gone), it feels like it might be going back to the way it was back in seasons 2 and 3. The time on the Otto Ranch was some of the best stuff on the show, so I have hope. Plus, I'm a die hard WD fan. I'm going to see the whole thing through. I also really want to see Alicia come back - not a spoiler, just a wish.
I can't wait for Carol to get to France. Then it'll be a whole new country of people underestimating her and then regretting it! I'm thrilled that he season 2 preview gives the premiere date as 2024. I mean, they could always end up pushing it back, but the fact that they've been filming for a while is encouraging.

Finished watching the last episode of Daryl Dixon's spin off. I don't know I guess I expected more then just Laurent and Isabelle making it to The Nest and Daryl finding his fathers headstone.
Does anyone know what Genet wants to do? Create an army of the super death? For what purpose? Unifying France under a pseudo Nazi like leader?
The human body decomposes rapidly in an outdoor environment especially if it is wet. The muscles, organs, ligaments, and tendons should all be gone in about two years. Why are there still zombies from 12 years ago from when Isabelle was living in Paris? Was that ever explained in the series.

I've read suggestions that the "zombie" virus is toxic to the bacteria that help cause decomposition, and some that think they're not so much dead as they are shuffling around with a very lowered metabolism. I don't know. I think it's one of those "just go with it" things, like how they still have viable gasoline after well over a decade. As far as Genet, she basically wants to rule what's left of France with her modified zombie army.

I do find it strange that folks go on road trips without extra gasoline in tanks either in the car or strapped on the motorcycle as if there are working gas stations everywhere.
Currently if there was a zombie outbreak and it was that rapid and within a year 50% of the 8 billion people died that still leaves 4 billion. No food, no power, drugs still available, no doctors would probably cut that down another 50% leaving 2 billion. That is still a lot of people that can rebuild the country/world as you still have skilled engineers and doctors.
What gets me, even 12 to 13 years later per the Walking Dead Timeline, you still have all these people with guns and bullets, so many bullets.

This is one of those "willing suspension of disbelief" situations. It's the zombie apocalyse, so I just go with it.
Kirkman has always said that he wouldn't reveal what happened to cause The Fall, so we'll never know, unless he changes his mind. Maybe the virus (if it's a virus - likely) causes the walkers to just keep going. We have learned that, if they don't feed, they eventually wither away, only really slowly. Milton talked about that in season 3. Not all of the walkers we see at the end of the mother ship series have been walkers the whole time. There are definitely walkers who have deteriorated, but some we're seeing in season 11 are new walkers. I remember (I think) Greg Nicotero talking on Talking Dead about how, after the time jump in season 9, they worked to make some walkers look really rotted out and "aged" because it had been 6 years.
I love the Daryl series. I'm down with whatever they want to do. They can't wrap all the storylines up in the season finale: they have more story to tell!
