The Walking Dead: Dead City - Premieres June 18th, 9pm on AMC (early premiere 6/15 12pm on AMC+)I'm the biggest Walking Dead nerd, so I was already excited, but then the reviews started coming in and now I'm even MORE excited!

I just watched the season premiere on AMC+ and LOVED IT! No spoilers, but it seems like we met pretty much all of the main characters, or at least the ones mentioned in various articles and interviews about the show. Totally different feel from the flagship series or, really, any of the other series in the WD Universe. I can't wait to see what happens, although I do worry that Negan is going to die in the end

I changed the title of the thread to fold in the upcoming Daryl and Michonne & Rick spinoffs.
We have GREAT news about the Daryl spinoff! Melissa McBride was photographed in costume as Carol with Norman and JDM just tweeted about it. She's going to be in the spinoff!
I was the least excited about Dead City, but I'm enjoying it. I watched the second episode yesterday and it's even better than the premiere. Lots of new characters introduced and just more of that world. Really good stuff.
I feel like I'm the only one watching

I just caught up on the first episode of Dead City - very good! I could have done without the roach scene and revisiting That Episode from the original series...ugh. What happened to Negan's wife?

I just caught up on the first episode of Dead City - very good! I could have done without the roach scene and revisiting That Episode from the original series...ugh. What happened to Negan's wife? Yeah, I didn't want to see those scenes, but I think they were trying to provide context, especially for viewers who maybe didn't watch TWD.
I really enjoyed this week's episode. I love the imagery of ziplining between buildings. It totally makes sense and is, oddly, way safer than traveling at street level. We're getting more characters too and finally met The Croat (love Zeljko Ivanek!). Now I'm sad that we only have 4 more episodes. I also worry that they're going to kill off Negan in some way - maybe he'll sacrifice himself to save Maggie or Hershell - and I really would like to see MORE of this series!

I don't know how I missed this when it was published, but this article has pics and video of Danai and Andy together filming the Rick & Michonne series. Spoiler! I mean, sort of, but did anyone think this series would NOT have them reunited? Don't think so. I do remember seeing pics on set of someone people said was Danai, but it wasn't her. Maybe it was a stunt double. These are definitely her and it's definitely Andy.
This is the spinoff I'm most looking forward to. In MY version of the series, they end up back at Alexandria, reunited with the kids.....or, rather, Michonne reunited with the kids and Rick reunited with Judith and meeting RJ for the first time. I also REALLY want a Rick/Daryl reunion. Even if they do it over walkies or something. I just need that moment of reunion, or at least of Daryl knowing that Rick is alive.

I loved the ziplining between buildings, makes sense. And just when I start to think that Negan has mellowed, he goes and does something like that. Ruthless! I do hope they don't kill him off.

I loved the ziplining between buildings, makes sense. And just when I start to think that Negan has mellowed, he goes and does something like that. Ruthless! I do hope they don't kill him off.I read a sort of spoiler-y article this morning that made me think {Spoiler}they didn't kill him off. It said something about the finale leaving things open for a second season, which to me means Negan lives. If I can find the article, I'll post a link.
The more critical reviews of the show I've read are upset because Negan seems to have regressed. I think that's short-sighted. Personal/emotional growth is rarely linear, especially in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. I think he's a better man, but he's also still ruthless. Both things can be true.
About Annie....it seemed like his reaction when Maggie asked about her in episode one meant that she was dead even though he never said it outright. I do hope we find out for sure. If she and their child died, that would explain him hardening up again.

I don't think he's regressed as much as that's just become a part of him in the awful world they live in. His "good" side comes through plenty - he looked genuinely sad when a struggling Maggie refused his help on the zipline. JDM is fantastic, I don't think anybody else could pull off this character like he does.
I hope that spoiler is accurate!

I watched episode 3 last night and things are really ramping up! I still don't know how they're going to get everything they need to get done all tied up in three episodes, but maybe that means they left the door open for another season. It's definitely getting good reviews, so I think a renewal would be justified.
I can't remember who says it in WD, but someone talked about how, if you've survived that long, you've done some terrible things. It might have been Annie talking to Maggie after she finds out Annie is pregnant and Annie says that Negan told her about the things he'd done. Basically, no one of innocent. To survive in that world, you will probably have to do some things that, in the world before, would have ended with an arrest.
Agreed about JDM being the right guy for this job. He's done some great work as Negan, especially Negan after he's taken down.

I'm watching episode 4 of Dead City right now and it got so intense that I had to pause it for a few minutes. OMG. I think the last two episodes are going to be even crazier. Cool little cameo at the beginning of the episode that I definitely won't spoil. I'll admit I squealed I was glad last week that they revealed what happened to Annie and their son...or at least as much as Negan knows. At least there's hope that they're both still alive.

Yes! I'm glad they mentioned Annie...they kind of left it open but at least they were okay. That cheese grater scene - ugh.

That thing with the cheese grater was gnarly. If you've survived that long, you become pretty tough and, if you're not just relying on your size, you get creative and scrappy. I mean, Carol was never going to overwhelm someone physically, but she'd still kick your a$$.
I've read some comments online that were critical of the Annie character. Not HER, per se, but the relationship with Negan. I felt like it fit in with his growth as a person. He changed over the course of his time in Alexandria and was drawn to another strong woman like Lucille. Instead of controlling and dominating women, like he did at the Sanctuary, he was looking for a partner. I totally got it. Plus, I really like that actress.
The Rick and Michonne series, in the spirit of the Daryl series is going to be called The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne. They just debuted the title card this week. I guess it's a fine title, if not a little unoriginal. I just hope the series is good. For me, that's the series they really need to get right for the fans of the original series. These other two spinoffs are just fun. Of course, I want them to be good, but I think they can do whatever they want and it has no effect on the original series. With Rick and Michonne, because he, in particular, is so much a part of what the WD is, it has to be good AND it has to be satisfying for the fans.
My guess is that, even if they renew the other two spin-offs, Danai and Andy are not going to want to sign up for more episodes. She has a busy career acting and writing and he wants to be back in England with his wife and kids.
I'm waiting for that centipede-looking walker we keep seeing in the previews!

Perlie needs to stopppp. Also: it was cool to see Simon again. Where the heck IS Hershel? They haven't really shown him since the beginning. And on last week's show - were they seriously huffing rotten zombie methane?? *barf*

I've read some theories about what Maggie was going to tell Negan in this last episode. Several people are theorizing that the Croat took Hershell, but agreed to give him back if Maggie brought him Negan. That totally makes sense to me. I do hope she finds her conscience and saves him and, obviously, still is able to rescue Hershell and kill the Croat. That moment with the walker that Maggie thought might be Hersehll was a lot. Lauren and Jeffrey are just so good. You could feel relief from both of them. It was such an unexpected pairing for a series, but I like that it's a complicated relationship. I've seen comments on Reddit from people who hope they hook up and a) I hope that NEVER happens and b) I don't think it ever will. Because both leads are also exec producers, I just don't think they'd want those characters to go there. It would be a total betrayal of the history of the characters, especially Maggie. If we get a hug at some point, I think that's as much as will ever happen. Simon was pretty evil by the end of his run on WD, but I do think Steven Ogg did a great job in the role. I'll admit to squealing a bit when I heard his voice! Totally unexpected cameo. The benefit of watching early on AMC+ (in addition to watching early, of course) is that each episode is followed by an "inside the episode" package with interviews and footage. The showrunner talked about how excited and happy JDM and Steven Ogg were to be working together. Agreed about Perlie. I like Gaius Charles, but that character is just.....UGH. I have hope that he'll turn into not such a straight-laced, black & white-type guy, but yeah, this last episode made me want to slap him. Negan just saved your life and you pull a gun on him? Jerk move, dude. I just realized that the next episode is out tonight at midnight on AMC+. Yay!

It's not official, but an actor on the show may have spilled the beans about going back to NYC to film season 2 of Dead City. This is good news! (I deliberately didn't name the actor, because that would spoil a character's fate this season, but it's obviously in the article)

Sooo if there's another season maybe they won't find Hershel yet? Or maybe they do and season two will be like Escape from New York. Either way, yay!

I wondered if maybe a second season would be Negan and Maggie going off to find Annie and his son. It's official: we have a premiere date for the Daryl spin-off! September 10th.
I really like that the look and feel of these spin-offs is different from the mothership series.
I wonder what's going on that time slot for the time between the end of Dead City and the start of the Daryl series. Apparently, Fear isn't coming back until October to finish out it's run.
I also wonder if we'll ever see another episode of Talking Dead. I get that they can't do one every week, since these spin-offs have such small casts, in comparison to WD, but I always enjoyed that show. I'd hope that the series finale of Fear would get one.
Two words about tonight's DC episode: Walker King

So, now that we know why Maggie asked Negan to help her get Hershell back, does that make her the bad guy in this scenario? Negan agreed to help her get Hershell back because I think he still feels guilty and like he owes her, but if he hadn't turned over a new leaf and become a better man, he probably would have just told her to kick rocks.
Maggie knew there was a chance Negan would end up dead and, obviously, she cares more about her kid than about Negan, but it's still pretty dark. I'm really hoping for an apology from her. I also hope they end up teaming up and beating the Croat.
I was worried that the strike would affect the Rick & Michonne spin-off, but they've already wrapped filming. Whew!

I'm torn on Maggie...I mean, if I had to watch Negan do what he did to Glenn, I could never forgive that. Never. Yeah, Negan has become a better person, but I'd be holding on to a BIG ass grudge. That said, I hope they team up against the Croat too. The clip of how they filmed the Walker King was pretty cool!

Agreed, but also, this is not normal circumstances. He was right in asking her how many fathers and husbands had she has killed. I wouldn't forgive either, but with so few people who could be allies in that world, you work with what you have. I think I'd be considering his wife and child in that scenario (where I agreed to turn him over to the Croat) too.
LC and JDM are just both SO good that I want to see more. There are plenty of characters whose story was tied up nicely on WD and I don't think we need to see again, but there are others that I'll never get tired of. Like, I don't need a 12th season with life at the Commonwealth and the other communities, but the spin-offs they're doing are with characters who have more story to tell. The only one I was bummed about not seeing again was Carol and it looks like that's going to happen.
I think the ratings and reviews have been so good for this show. They'd be crazy not to renew it.
The Walker King was awesome! I only watch on AMC+, so I don't know this: Are they showing the little short about the making of the episode each week after the episode airs? If not, they should at least make those available on the AMC YouTube channel. It's kind of like the little making of videos they used to show on Talking Dead.

Critical - I watch the next morning On Demand and they always show that "making of" clip after the episode. Even if they take out the Croat, they have Darlene from Ozark to contend with. She's scarier than he is.

OMG the season finale! I forgot to watch last night at midnight, so I ended up watching it this afternoon. There is SO much to talk about! I can't wait until Sunday, when I'll have someone to discuss it with! Great action, some really good dramatic scenes with multiple characters and they did totally set it up for another season. I saw comments on Reddit that it felt more like a mid-season finale and that's totally how I felt about it. It definitely left me wanting more. While I predicted some of it, there were definitely a few twists in there. Now we wait for the renewal announcement! Oh, and Daryl next month! (okay, yeah, it's September and not next month )

I read on Twitter this morning that both the Daryl spinoff and DC have been renewed for second seasons (I guess they KNOW we'll all watch the Daryl one ). Excellent! I think they were likely waiting until Comic Con to make the announcement. Of course, they probably thought they'd have the actors and producers there to make the announcement at a panel in Hall H. I think they knew the Daryl series was a no-brainer. He's one of the most, if not the most, popular characters in the WDU.
The way the ended this season of DC, there are several ways they could take the story and I truly have no idea which one I want to see!
Someone just uploaded the first 10 minutes of the DD premiere to YouTube! It's available on AMC+, but not anywhere else, until now.

Way to leave us hanging, show! I liked that final shot with both of their faces.. I've seen some articles saying something to the effect of "now Negan and Maggie will lead opposing factions" or go to war or something like that and I think that's ONE way it could go. I also like the idea of Negan undermining things from the inside. While I do think he may enjoy being in control after so many years of being locked up and, well, NOT in control, I also think (hope?) he's changed enough that going back to the way he used to be isn't in him any more. He may like the control, but I don't think he's changed his opinion of the Croat. We'll see how he feels about The Dama. Maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I think Negan turning bad again is less interesting and kind of an insult to everyone who started rooting for him. I like the idea that they've both sort of moved into the gray area and neither is all good or all bad.
Even though we didn't see Hershell much, I think Logan Kim was terrific in that last episode. While, of course, many people are tuning in for the action, it's nice to see them do some deeper emotional work with these characters. If all I wanted was zombies being killed, I'd play a video game.
