The Amazing Race is Back! - For the first time, a former team surprises racers as judges; one team member must traverse a tightrope stretched from one rooftop to another at the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, before heading to their first location, Thailand.

The deaf dad got it solved pretty quickly. I had a feeling he might. Sometimes the focus on visual is stronger, when another sense is missing. So, good for him! I love that he's doing this challenge. Ewww, eating insects! Those poor women! |

I can't believe anyone went for that sword thing. Those things are tricky. They can take ages if you are not co-ordinated. Spa is much easier. Half an hour and you are done.

I can't say I'm surprised by the eliminated team, but the whole time, I did think there were others who would've been last.
Those massages looked horrendous! But, invigorating I guess! The sword challenge wasn't quite equal to the spa day, but that's what they have to learn when it comes to choosing.

We loved all the couples, especially the son whose father was deaf. The thai massage looked great, it hurts a bit, but afterwards feels like heaven. I'm not sure I could've eaten the bugs, especially the spider, but they did well. We just finished AR Canada, now we start this one. Thailand is beautiful with the golden buddha, I'd love to go.

AR is my favorite show and I am so happy to see so many great teams to root for!
The brother sister team seemed nice but the lack of decision making would have driven me nuts for the rest of the season so not overly sad they are gone.
Great first episode!

I wondered if was on the autism spectrum because of the way he spoke. It reminded me of some of the people I support. |

I wasn't surprised that the Brother/Sister team went first. Neither of them wanted to lead or make a decision....or hurt each others feelings. The brother had to know it was his sister who was messing up, but he blamed himself  I feel like they might have some separation anxiety...they live together, work together, eat oatmeal together Those girls eating the bugs...wow! I was super impressed! I would have been like the two ladies who came up after them and immediately turned around, uhh nope! Loved seeing Derek and Claire  Early faves are the dad & son...I loved how he walked up behind the big group of people trying to figure out the word and scramble and had it within a minute and was gone I like Liam and Yeremi (I had to go look up their names ) they didn't get much screen time this episode but I like their story and they just seem like kind men. Malaina and Andrea - the best friends - were making me laugh...so I enjoyed them so far. |

I was irritated that the group didn’t try to include the deaf man in the puzzle solving. Served them right that he just got it and walked away.
I have to say that the group’s word-puzzle solving sucked. It took me about 2 seconds to figure out that the second word was “of” and after that “city” was an obvious possibility for the first word. So that meant just figuring out what word could be made from the remaining letters, which was clearly what the father did when he solved it so quickly. That first guy was funny just guessing after “stars” wasn’t the word. Glad he guessed correctly.

Absolutely thrilled that the first place team for leg one was and older married couple. So often on this series you have the younger more athletic male male teams dominate the legs and end up winning and I get to the point I detest these teams.
I don't know any names yet so bare with my descriptions. The engaged gay team instantly feeling a lot of intense vibes from this team and thinking these guys will be explosive and may lose their relationship and we may see a lot of drama. Oh, good they are not that good.
The two brothers, both vets surprised me not being in the top three. They come across pleasant and hopefully will remain that and will be future eye candy.
The Orange husband and wife. Gee, competitive much hubby. Guess were the tension will come from that team. Please no yelling at wifey and he apologized for his mistake (yeah) OK decent placing.
I mainly was surprised at the lack of competitiveness and puzzle skills and why are you telling what the clue is to other teams.
Luv the CODA son and dad.
Like the two AA brothers, smart and not losing it.
Like the two older greybread friends.
The pink ladies not so much.
The white or light pink mother and daughter ... may get on my nerves.
The blue sisters are on my nerves.
The maroon siblings ... no decision making skills, are they clones, do they realize this is a race, there is no fire in their eyes, not peck in their step. Is this the result of giving everyone a participation medal? A lot of times on this show the nerds can be intense and surprise you with their skill set. These not so much.
The two female friends the one who lost her husband and had a brain tumor ... liking them.
Good first episode.

Give the engaged team credit for breaking down the movements into two moves and that they are repeated. Smart. They did that fast. |

Yay, TAR is back! It's my favorite. I'm thrilled this season will be an hour and a half.
It'll be interesting to go back to airports. That's so often been make or break for teams.
I could never eat the bugs, nor do I enjoy watching them try to. Do you think that express pass will make the girls a target? (Sisters? I don't have the teams separated in my mind.)
So far I like all the teams. I was not sad to see bro/sis team go home. They didn't seem competitive enough for the whole race.
I loved that an older couple came in first place. So often it hasn't been that way. What language did he say he was speaking that wasn't Thai, but was close enough to understand?

For some reason my mind went to Rock of Gibraltar at first glance. I do better when I have a piece of paper where I can cross the letters used off.
Deaf Dad had a bit of an advantage with all the spelling he does, but it was fun watching him figure it out before the others. But you are in LA also known as the "City of Angels".
