With my house, I'd pick Karen and Mina from Good Bones too. I love her colors, and the kitchens are always so pretty. Boise Boys would be runner ups.
If I had a different kind of home, the Desert Flippers couple would be a good choice too.
No way would I ever let that hack from Restored by the Fords touch anything. I wouldn't let her reno a dog house.

The only thing I've ever liked of theirs is when they installed the black tin ceiling in the Victorian. The ceilings and windows were really high, and with the rest of the walls in that room painted white it was very striking.

I enjoy watching the HGTV shows, but all of the designers are too tame for my true tastes. I love bright colors and hand-painted designs on walls and furniture and just generally a party happening in the decor. I can't think of anyone who could/would do that for me. You want color, Miss_Griss, just enter the HGTV 2018 Urban Oasis contest. Lots of color throughout this home, cabinetry and all. Of course you'd have to vacation in Cincinnati. I always enter their contests and figure if I don't like their location for a vacation home, I can always sell it. www.hgtv.com/design/hgtv-urban-oasis/2018/tour-hgtv-urban-oasis-2018-pictures

I hate what they did to this house! They painted EVERY piece of original wood trim/molding and either removed or covered the original floors. There isn't a single trace of 1900 workmanship remaining. Criminal!

Criminal! Are you talking about the giveaway home? I didn't realize it was a renovation. I just looked at pictures and assumed it was a new build. If it's an update, I agree with you. I absolutely hate when beautiful old woodwork gets painted or removed. There was such attention to detail in these older homes that rarely gets put back in when it's taken out.

I watched the special HGTV aired about this house and now I'm of two minds about it.
Some of the floors were sloping so they had to get rid of them. They also said that they donated a lot of the original materials...I only hope that they found their way to people who are renovating their homes with original features in mind. They kept some things (like the pocket doors) while objects like the leaded glass window disappeared; surely they could have reinstalled it somewhere? They reinstalled the trim, but painted it when they could have stained it a lighter color. Then they made decisions that just didn't make sense, like taking the time out to find a fireplace mantel and tiles that matched the original period of the house...and then painted the mantel gray. They've used that designer before, and while he's good at making things look fresh and new he should NOT be renovating old houses as that's obviously not his thing.
I love most of the colors in the house and the kitchen but liked it better when I thought it was a newer build based on a period house.

Yes, Kao. I thought the same thing before I saw the before pictures, and I agree with what you said about that designer not being good for renovating old houses.

Agree with everything you both said. There is no reason to paint ALL of the wood trim in a remodel. Leave a room or two original. You can still make it all feel cohesive. Getting rid of original mantles and stained glass windows is criminal.

Yeah. Lawns in the desert are so stupid. I live in Utah, and we waste so much water here trying to have green lawns. And when we get short on water, instead of cutting back, we just try to bring more in from somewhere else. It makes no sense at all. And the government seems to be the biggest offenders. Drives me nuts to drive by a business, whether govt or private, and they have the sprinklers going in the middle of the day, a rain storm or aimed at the road.

I would think in a state that is mainly composed of desert you plant the plants that thrive there and that is not Kentucky Blue Grass. Even in this day and age, where scientists have loads of data that the aquifer under numerous regions are depleting some people think a green lawn is important.

They aired episode 1 and 2 of season 2 of Flip or Flop Atlanta. I did not like season 1, I didn't like the couple, I didn't like the houses, I didn't like the pilot. Season 2 wow, what happened, the pacing is different, the couple is much better, as are the episodes and the houses. There is something very off with the prices given for renovations in the Flip or Flop houses, are they being given contractor rates???
While I am liking season 2, I like to see the entire house especially the kitchen and bathrooms to get ideas and see what is trending in the area and I did feel as if the camera work was not good as we didn't get any long over shots of either of those rooms before the open house in either of the episodes. I wish we had seen a bit more of the pergola and firepit in episode 1 to get the full effect.

I didn't mind the Atlanta couple in season one...didn't love every house they did, but some were nice. I'm curious about the first episode last night, where they didn't sell the house. Are they just going to let it sit? Rent it out? That was odd.
They probably do get a better rate/quote than the rest of us would get, especially if they've got a bunch of houses going and can keep the contractors busy.

One thing I really hate about all the flipping shows is that they never seem to repair or clean the cracked concrete walkways or driveways of the houses they flip. The duplex into single family home the Atlanta couple did had a huge crack in the sidewalk. If nothing else put filler in it and resurface it so it looks new. There have been so many stained and cracked and pitted driveways and patios on all the flip and flop shows and they simply leave it and expect folks to pay ridiculous amounts for something not totally rehabbed.

Dessert Flippers - Season 3 Episode 11 - Bid to Win - October 2, 2018
The before and after of the facade of the house was simply amazing. Changing the garage door and front door to something that modern but in brown and adding wood look tile as accent pieces was smart and cost effective. I do like the little touches like the separate path with solar lighting. What really amazes is how Lyndsey coordinates her dresses to the color palette of the house and staging. She made a sack dress look incredibly sexy. I do like how she and Eric play off each other clothes wise at the open house. How much can you be outside during the year to enjoy the outside living area? Mmmmm, June thru September are the really hot months with 100+ degree weather but that is why you enjoy the pool when the sun goes down. I really do enjoy the homes they flip.
Is Rose Gold really a trend in metal color?
The tile is absolutely gorgeous in all of their houses.

I've never seen rose gold anything here, it's still all about brushed/polished nickel and black hardware. But, we're always behind the latest trends...

What do you think about mixing metal finishes like stainless steel and copper? Joanna Gaines has been doing that lately...she paired all stainless kitchen appliances with copper lighting fixtures and I think a copper sink.

While I am not sure if you are talking about a recent show Eastcoastmom but reading your post my son and dil just did that to their kitchen. They did it all over and have mixed COPPER with STAINLESS STEEL and it really looks OUTSTANDING. They even switched up all the "pulls" on all their cabinets with copper. I cannot tell you how amazing it looks. They would not let us look for the longest time while they were doing it over and OMG when they had the reveal for us........love love love.

I don't know what material it is made of but the deep matte finish appeals to me. Non shiny brass is coming back too, but no thanks.

I don't think the rubbed dark bronze is around too much, the black metal pulls have replaced that in in cases it does look amazing. I guess it depends on the entire color palette. I am not a huge fan of copper but again it depends on what is being done. Gold I could live with but the brass, even non shiny seems too specific.

Desert Flippers - S03 E12 · All a Facade - October 9, 2018
Amazing how taking off a facade changes the home from a sorta Hispanic Hacienda to this modern box. I have to said Lyndsey and Eric have vision by putting in a new garage door, a new front door and painting the house white and then adding those cool shadow graphics totally transforms the house. I liked the dark navy or charcoal they used for the wall and the "splash" graphic. This couple never forgets that Palm Springs is an indoor/outdoor living spaces environment. Loved that you can add a tanning shelf and a spa into a pool like they did. This couple knows how to transform a space and I have luv'ed the last several kitchens with the amazing tile back splashes, to opening a wall or eliminating a partial wing wall, closing up a door or window and added a wrap around peninsula that complete changes the wall the space feels. Luv the use of materials and luv their imagination overcoming problems.

Season 2 Episode 3 & 4 - Flip or Flop Atlanta
Ep 2 a 7000 sq ft mansion ... amazing the difference in price depending on location. There is a certain point there is too much space in the home. I found it amusing that they really couldn't do the really high end finishes as it would cost too much. When they were talking about replacing the deck railing it was very obvious that they filmed at two different times as the deck was a dark grey, then went to dark red back to dark grey.
Ep 3 the tiny house with the wrapped floor ... while I like what they did, it had to be a fake open house as it was so obvious that the steps up to the house were still the old ragged concrete with paint half chipped off. Who would sell a house that way. If I saw that I would never buy the house as it would indicate to me the builders only half ass the project. I hate it when I see steps, and front porches like that. A simple power wash and paint job would solve the problem.

That mansion was enormous on the first episode of Flip or Flop...it turned out okay, but I wasn't really wowed by anything they did. The kitchen was boring. The second house was pretty cute (minus the crappy stairs)...I wish I had the addresses to look them up online and do some snooping.

Desert Flippers Season 3 Episode 13 - High-Risk Flip - October 16, 2018 Eric and Lyndsey buy a house in the Hollywood Colony area of Palm Springs. talkingrealestatepalmsprings.com/best-palm-springs-neighborhoods-to-live-palm-springs-homes-for-sale/the-movie-colony/The makeover of this home was simply amazing. I luv'ed the kitchen with the black glossy cabinets, the wood tone cabinets, the black finish kitchen appliances, the while peninsula and accent tower. Also luv'ed the casita with the gold tone kitchen appliances. The tile is simply breathtaking. This couple has a great support system to get all the finishes, the landscaping, the architectural changes are all spot on. Updated mid century modern. Yum. I am surprised the city made them move the wall of the casita, it should have been grandfathered in.
