Can you name some decent comedy movies that you've seen? I just don't seem to find that many recent movies to be as funny as ones from the 80's and 90's were, for example. Or maybe I'm just getting old and grouchy, I'm not sure. lol

Comedies are so subjective. Comedic actors and actresses are either really funny to a person, or really, really, really annoying. For instance, I know half the population loves Sacha Baron Cohen. I don't find him funny at all. However, Will Ferrell kills me - and I know a ton of people who think he's the worst ever. Seth Rogan is also someone I can't stomach, but again, tons of people think he's the best.
I also think your state of mind when watching a move definitely colors your opinion. The other night my husband was watching something stupid, but I was in a good mood, and I was crying with laughter. It was probably a fart joke.
I'm trying to think of all my favorite comedies from the last 20 years and most of them have Will Ferrell or Jack Black so I'm kind of stuck in a rut I guess. Anchorman was great the first time I saw it. Tropic Thunder still makes me laugh. Step Brothers is infinitely quotable. I also loved Bridesmaids the first time through. Multiple viewings on some of these movies have dulled the funny.

I like RomComs. Slapstick and Sophomore Boy humor is NOT my thing.

My favorite comedy of recent is 'Girl's Trip'. I was laughing out loud. Tiffany Hadish is a gem. Although it has a lot of sexual humor so not something you would watch with kids or grandparents or parents. But to me it was just so perfect.

Tag has been my favorite comedy so far this year. IT was very funny, but also was a very nice testament to the value of friendship.

I saw Accepted at the movie theater and liked it so much, I knew I would be buying it as soon as it was available on video! It became one of my nephew and I's favorite movies to watch. Very funny! Balls of Fury was good, too. I have to agree with you that most comedy movies these days aren't that funny to me. I just find them stupid and/or annoying.

Office Space is one of my alltime favorites. To me it's a comedy.

I haven't laughed as hard at any movie in the past 20 years as I did at Death at a Funeral - the British version, not the subpar American remake. We're talking "laughing so hard I can't breathe and I have to pause the movie"-level funny.
In recent years, I liked the Ghostbusters remake and Girls Trip was so funny. I also liked Bad Moms a lot more than I expected. Probably my favorite recent comedy was Spy with Melissa McCarthy and Jude Law. Hilarious and a great supporting cast - Rose Byrne, Miranda Hart, Jason Statham, Allison Janney. I've watched it at least 10 times and it still makes me laugh. There are lines in that movie that you can tell were ad-libbed (you get the outtakes over the credits) and are so hilarious. If you have a problem with language, it's probably not the movie for you, but it makes me laugh out loud. I love Melissa McCarthy, but she still gets too many bad scripts. When she gets a good one, it shows. I wish they'd do Spy 2. I'd pay to see that in the theater and I rarely see movies in the theater - I pay for enough streaming and premium service - I can wait!
Comedies aren't my favorite movie genre, so I'm very picky. It takes a lot to make me laugh. Not because I don't have a sense of humor, but because I just don't think a lot of popular comedy (on TV and movies) are very funny.
