Ouch. It sounds like he really messed his back up when that boat slammed down.

I cringed when they said his back. I had a compressed disc once. It was beyond horrible. They need to get him to an ER.

WTH happened? I'm at work and I actually had to do some work and missed what happened. OMG. I can't believe he still wants to stay. He really should be going.
I read that a hurricane hit while they were filming this season.

Oh no. I did NOT see this coming. Pat on the David tribe has injured his back on the boat ride back from the immunity challenge. Choppy waters and somehow he got slammed into something, the other tribe members heard a crack. He's in a lot of pain, and they have him on a stretcher and seem to be pretty concerned, but he says he can't quit. If he seriously injured his back, there is no way he can stay.

Aww, poor guy. They're pulling him. I know he doesn't want to go, but he's in no shape to continue.

An hour ago I didn't know this guy, but I'm sitting here fighting the tears. Poor guy.

I don't think I have ever seen someone taken off after the first challenge. Well, at least they don't have to vote off another player.

I hope he's okay now. Maybe there will be an update on him somewhere now that the show has aired...

I love all the David team..and the cop on Goliath is my eye candy. The weather was terrible, cold , hungry and tired. I wanted Davids to win, and not have anyone go out like Pat had to. He kept saying not like this, I felt sorry for him. I read that the weather there was pretty terrible.. I love nerds..LOL

I had I had a feeling I'd be rooting for the Davids as I like underdogs, but even I was surprised by just how much more likeable and compelling they were. I'm team David all the way. Christian the super nerd is of course a standout, but I liked just about everyone we've gotten to know on that tribe. Even the guy who wasn't pulling his own weight and seemed kind of sketchy forming alliances had his moment talking about his mother. The Goliaths on the other hand just came across as cocky and aggressive, to the point where I was actually sad when they won, and even sadder when poor Pat had to go out first like this. Even though the premiere had a sad ending, I'm looking forward to this season. I see a lot of potential with this cast, just as long as the Davids don't go on an extended losing streak and most get voted out before the merge.

Wow, that was a horrible way to go out. I had tears in my eyes when Pat was saying, "not this way."
I like the David team better, especially more than some of the super arrogant Goliath players. I am, however, inclined to like Mike because, IIRC, I liked him on TAR. Didn't he race with his dad?

I am for the David tribe. Always feel like an underdog my life there about. As well as really they are humble and modest compared to Goliath and that they are team players.

I recognized Mike White from Zombieland. I should not be surprised that he is on Goliath, since his characters tend to be Davids...

Natalie is like a pissed off Cirie.
Anyone else annoyed by the extended commercial breaks towards the end?
This medical emergency was so abrupt because, apparently, there were no cameramen on the boat. Dr. Joe got there ahead of the helicopter, and Jeff just ran out of the woods to join them. Base camp must be on the same island.

I assumed they were back at the 'David' camp, but after the medevac the team all hopped back in the boat. I guess after the impact/injury, they pulled off at the nearest beach - not sure how Jeff got there seemingly by land.

According to Dalton Ross' interview of Jeff, the boat headed back to the challenge location, so not at the David camp. And Dalton Ross' exit interview of Pat revealed that Carl was also thrown around and hit his head.
Pat was doing pretty well three days later. I wonder if it was a situation where they would have notified his family about what happened.

It sounded like Pat was going to be voted off anyway because of his bossiness while building the shelter so maybe it's a blessing in disguise that he got medically evacuated instead of going to tribal council and being eliminated. He might get another chance to compete in a future season of Survivor and he can watch this premiere episode to fine-tune his gameplay.

To have your survivor dreams smashed...and maybe a broken back to go with it? I hope he gets another chance to play in the future.

I like him but for some reason I just don't care about how he does in the game. But if it's been a dream for him I hope he enjoys it however long he lasts!

Dan is a bit full of himself and of course, he is interested in the former cheerleader Cara. He certainly filled out those bike shorts.....

I fell asleep last night and am now watching it.
I didn't like the over confidence of the Goliath people. It was irritating that they thought being born with a financial advantage made them superior people.

I don't think I have ever seen someone taken off after the first challenge. Well, at least they don't have to vote off another player. . In One World there was a contestant that got injured during the fist challenge and had to be pulled. The challenge involved jumping down and landing on a net, and she didn’t follow instructions and went hands-first, giving herself a game-ending hand injury.

Remember, the producers need to keep the storyline alive.

The end game must be that the producers are hoping a David wins.
I don't much care for the premise, but always a plus to me when it is all new people.

Good first episode. So sad about the medical evac (though my phone newsfeed had a story about it and that's how I knew Survivor had started). Lots of people I like. I need to put my pool together but can't remember anyone's name.
