I was so thankful that I didn't know much about it coming into it. So funny and it really stuck with me. Very surprising. I also watched Notting Hill on the plane as well since I've never seen it. Hugh Bonneville was in it and that was fun to see him. I thought Julia Robert's character was a complete jerk so I didn't really get the romance bit.

I'll never heard the word "S'mores" again without thinking of "The Menu." Fun fact: When we were in London, we stayed near Notting Hill and went to see one of the Star Wars movies in the very theater where Hugh Grant is looking at Julia Roberts in one of her films.

Trust me; just like the term "F you, Diesel B!" haunts my brain from Bullet Train that scene with everyone covered in marshmellow and chocolate is all I can think of now whenever I hear "Smores." As a matter of fact, I'm gonna watch it again because people are saying that there's very subtle hints towards his true nature that you'll miss on the first watch.

I was thinking of watching it again too. "You will eat less than you desire and more than you deserve." God, I loved Elsa.

2022's Empire of Light with Olivia Colman, and Colin Firth in a small role. Still not too sure what I think of it. Hubby didn't care for it, but that's not unusual for him b/c there wasn't much 'action' going on.

Was in the mood to watch something with more of a cult following so I watched Space Is The Place which is like this Afrofuturism film that was made in 1974 that the musician Sun Ra stars in. Hits that sweet spot between 60s cult films like Putney Swope and the Blaxploitation Era. I loved all the retro jive talk; it's a lot of fun and truly from another era (but I have to admit the special effects were very early Dr. Who, lol).

Beast - Idris Elba vs. a CGI lion! Characters making stupid decisions! It was just okay (story has been done before), but at least at 90 minutes it didn't overstay its welcome.

I debated about watching this or not. It seemed like it would be an okay movie, however watching Idris Elba for 90 minutes isn't a bad thing.

I just started binging a Tv series on Acorn and I'm kind of in that flow right now.

The Banshees of Inisherin - this was listed as a dark comedy...they got the "dark" part right! Very well done, beautiful scenery and wonderful acting. Colin Farrell was outstanding.
As much as I love the Irish accents, I definitely needed the closed captioning on this one.

The Menu
Described as a horror, thriller, with very ( very) dark humour, we enjoyed it.

My mom and I watched some movies from years ago that have a special place in our heart from when I was growing up. The Burb's. So ridiculous but hilarious. Then, Parenthood. Such great writing. Super funny.

I'll try to explain. It's dealing with the Multiverse in that there are many different "versions" of you across different universes; for every major decision you make in life there is a theoretical universe where you made a different decision, and the ramifications of that decision. The Michelle Yeoh character has made a lot of false starts in her life with different things, so her Multiverses are full of "versions" of herself and what might have happened if she made different decisions; versions of her is an actress, singer, chef, movie star, gas station attendant, etc. Her husband also has different versions of himself, and one of them has traveled through time to warn her of an immediate threat to the entire multiverse that just happens to be the "alternative" version of their daughter (who is struggling with a lot of trauma and self hate that has turned outward), and all the crazy starts to occur right when the family is being audited by the Jaime Lee Curtis character about deductions they made on their taxes regarding their laundry business. In the future they have the ability to jump between the Multiverse versions and gain the skillset of another version of themselves, and since Michelle's character has failed in so many things in life she has an abundance of different versions and skillsets to choose from to help in the fight against the "evil" version of her daughter. Different characters in the film also appear in the multiverses as different "versions" of themselves as well (for example, the Jamie Lee Curtis character also appears in one of the worlds as Michelle Yeoh's lover in a universe where people have evolved as having hotdog shaped fingers) and ironically, the husband who she sometimes takes for granted is also in a lot of Michelle's other versions lives as well, suggesting that there's a connection between the two that overrides everything. In addition to the Multiverse, the film also has overriding themes of inter generational trauma passed on from parents to children, and how to break that cycle. Personally, I loved it but can understand why some would find it confusing. I guess its not for everyone?

I watched a Menudo documentary on the plane, and I found it too swift but fascinating and sad. These boys were exploited and abused and my heart just hugs them for being so brave talking about it. Especially coming from such a machismo culture like Puerto Rico. The documentary itself needed some organization or more episodes for me. But my knowledge of Menudo was not very deep, so it was good to learn about it.
I also saw Don't Worry Darling. And thought it was dumb.

I watched that Menudo doc and it was heartbreaking. When I was a freshman in HS all the girls were crazy over Menudo and I saw their stuff everywhere, plus we were around the same age as the boys so it's like they grew up with us? What happened to a lot of their members was terrible, especially the inequity that meant one boy would be paid 7k per appearance while another would only gt $700. Their manager also only crowdsourced kids from the poorest of backgrounds for the group because he knew it was more likely they would say yes.

There was a Menudo store near where I grew up and I was always fascinated by it. Plus, I remember 'Menudo on ABC'. Yes, preying on poor families and creating access for men to prey on children. It must have been so terrifying.

And it was awful because certain members were targeted for abuse while others were...fine? Like the member they interviewed that said he got paid more and while nothing bad ever happened to him he couldn't speak for the other members of the group. It reminds me unpleasantly of modeling in the 80s and 90s; the top girls (or girls with that potential) were pampered and had bad experiences minimized while the "just okay" girls were often thrown to the wolves.

Yeah, some of the stories I keep thinking about. And no one to protect them and no one to step in. Just preditors. These kids were such commodities, consumables.
The one Menudo you are talking about, I felt he was a little dismissive about the abuse and wanted to distance himself from it. He also said, 'where did the money go?' and that we would touch that topic later on, but I don't think he did. That's why I felt it was too quick.
Also, I think that the manager preyed on the much younger boys. The Menudos that were older seemed not to have been sexually abused. But not the rest of the abuse.

The Menudo docuseries was depressing. Well done, but depressing. The fact that Edgardo Diaz seems to have walked away with no punishment or repercussions is horrifying and infuriating. I'm going to go against many of the posters here...I watched Everything Everywhere All at Once yesterday and LOVED IT! The whole cast was incredible. If Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan don't win Oscars....well, they'd better win! Jamie Lee Curtis was excellent too. I'd be thrilled to see her win too. The cast definitely deserved the SAG award. I love movies that are inventive and different, so I really loved this one.
I'm about to cancel my Showtime, so I may watch the movie again before I cancel, along with several other movies and a few shows.

I agree. The Daniels have a type of absurdist humour mixed with real life issues in their films that is not for everyone (if you've ever seen "Swiss Army Man" with Daniel Radcliffe you know exactly what I mean). Personally I loved it, especially the Universe where nothing evolved and they were just sentient rocks, lol. I also liked how they handled generational trauma and how to end the cycle. It's one of the rare occasions as of late where I actually bought the DVD.

Whitney Houston: I wanna dance with somebody.
I picked this up at the library. I loved Whitney's voice, The Voice, her range was incredible. I remember her singing at the super bowl, so that part made me tear up. As much as the film tends to skim the surface of many important times in Houston’s life, the level of detail in the re-creation of specific music videos, live performances, and other key moments is just astonishing, and so well done.Naomi Ackie did a wonderful job lip-synching . I believe , we'd still be hearing Whitney, if she'd chosen another path.

I watched The Whale last night. A co-worker saw it and said it was weird and some reviews were just okay. I really enjoyed it. Brendan Fraser was outstanding as was the rest of the cast. It was so sad yet uplifting in its final moments. Brendan deserved that oscar.

I watched "Puss 'N Boots: The Last Wish" and was amazed at just how good it was. Goldylocks and the Three Bears being a crime family was ingenious. It's definitely worthy of its Oscar nomination.
