We've been watching Mayor of Kingstown. I don't want it to end, Jeremy Renner is fabulous. Now I'm hearing rumors about his foot might need amputating. I so hope not.

FannyMare will you be able to see it? We really enjoyed it but it has been so long since S1 was released. Using Spoiler Tags in case you have not gotten that far in S1. I was disappointed when {Spoiler} Kyle Chandler was killed off.

No, we don't have paramount. I have to wait, although the way Netflix has been, I might cancel that. I guessed the spoiler, very sad.

The Banshees of Inisherin on HBO Very good movie but very sad at times. The acting (of this very small cast) is wonderful. Set in the 1920's. To just see the beauty of this remote Island off the coast of Ireland is breathtaking!!! I loved it; hubby hated it. Colin was amazing. The acting throughout was top notch. Haven’t seen any other McDonagh films, not even In Bruges. I had to look away at the gory parts, but the scenery was gorgeous. I don’t know if it’s an issue just with me, but I found it hard to decipher their accent. I find it difficult to understand English films too. Mr. ECM would rather remain in the dark than use closed captioning. He is bothered by the CC and speech not being in sync. When I watch alone, I turn on the CC.

I have it on hold at the library. I always use CC, DH didn't like CC at all, now he asks for it on.

Eastcoastmom and FannyMare ..... my Hubby HATES the CC's also ..... but so often we will watch movies from the UK or like this one from Ireland and we definitely needed the CC's ..... "fecking this and fecking that" ..... OMG ..... all in all we truly enjoyed it even if there were times it was rough. Dominic's father, the cop ..... ugh.

I had to watch The Menu after seeing these reviews. Once that dinner service got rolling...wow. That didn't go in the direction I thought it would! And now I want a cheeseburger. Hubby and I watched it last weekend and I told him that this guy makes Gordon Ramsey on Hells Kitchen look like a pussycat! So good.

Soul Food: Despite all the drama it's my feel good movie, and extremely relatable. I also love that it was shot mostly in Chicago and Oak Park, and I recognize most of the places in the movie.

I just rented Elvis last night from Redbox. I thought I recognized the actor playing Elvis so I looked him up on IMDB after the movie and he had played Will on The Shannara Chronicles. It was pretty good, but I felt like they glossed over a lot of Elvis's life (he enters the military, meets Priscilla at a party, BOOM! they're married, BOOM BOOM! they have Lisa Marie, etc. Much of the movie seemed more like a bio of Colonel Parker.
I'm glad I rented it, but don't know if I'll ever watch it again.

Jurassic World Dominion - while the dinosaurs running amok/karma gets the bad guy thing is pretty predictable by now, it's still a fun watch (even if it was about 30 minutes too long). Nice to see the original cast members back, too.

The Happening: Even funnier on my second watch, and I don't think Night Shyamalen meant it that way but I was laughing so hard. It started out slightly scary but then you have people stabbing themselves in the neck with knitting needles and lying under lawnmowers to kill themselves, people leaping off buildings, "Lemon Drank" lady, Mark Walburg as a science teacher, the non-acting....it's hysterical, and I love it.

I like to have captioning on because often the background music is so loud, it's hard to hear what the characters are saying. I like descriptive narration even better! I'm often crocheting at the same time so it's more like I'm listening to a movie rather than watching it. Plus, sometimes the narration tells something I hadn't noticed while watching it, or helps me keep track of who's who because I get faces mixed up and can't remember "Is that her brother or her boyfriend?", stuff like that.

We watched two films, first was Troll on Netflix. It was silly, it was typical but I loved the location..... gorgeous. I think that is the big reason I kept watching.
Then we watched Violent Night. It was odd, because it seemed to teeter between comedy and thriller. I think I expected it to be more campy and it wasn't. I thought it was fun.

I enjoyed both those films. I was raised on scary troll stories so for one to appear scared the bejesus out of me.

We watched the new Top Gun movie tonight. Fun, but not Oscar worthy, IMO. Also totally unrealistic. NO nearly 60-year old man would be allowed to still fly those planes. Of course, it's Tom Cruise, so he always has to come off as super human and much younger than he actually is We also watched Ticket to Paradise with George Clooney and Julia Roberts. Not one of their best, but cute and gorgeous scenery. Whoever dressed JR for this movie has a jumpsuit fetish. It was weird. One made her look like she was in flight school. She's still got a great figure. They should have dressed her in more flattering clothing. Really liked Kaitlyn Dever as their daughter.

Shoplifters: A bit of a misleading title, because yes, they stole things but the story is more about discarded people--whether they be elderly, young children that the "parents" really didn't give a damn about, or people who did shady things in their past finding a family within themselves, and how those bonds are tested and severed because supposedly "biological is best." It's really heartbreaking in a lot of ways.

Yesterday we watched a delightful film from 2012 titled The Guilt Trip, starring Barbra Streisand and Seth Rogen. I don't remember this coming out at all but was so happy we happened to catch it while scrolling last night. It was so enjoyable, and Seth and Barbra were superb together.

We watched the utterly delightful Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris tonight. It was just lovely. I know I'll watch it again.
I watched Shotgun Wedding with JLo and Josh Duhamel, with many stars in supporting roles. Not great, a little too yell-y, but not terrible.

I watched Shotgun Wedding yesterday too. I enjoyed it. It's on Prime Movies. I've always liked Jennifer Lopez romantic comedies. They're definitely not award worthy, but they're cute & fun. Good light entertainment. This one didn't disappoint in the cute & fun department. I liked the cast.

I liked Shotgun Wedding, but there was a bit too much yelling, especially between the two main characters. I just don't like when, in times of stress, when characters just yell at each other. I thought the supporting cast was terrific.
IMO, The Lost City (another recent action/romantic comedy) was better than Shotgun Wedding. I'm not a huge Channing Tatum fan, but I thought he was terrific and Sandra Bullock and Daniel Radcliffe were excellent. It's fun to see DR play against type. Plus, a little Brad Pitt never hurt anyone. Beautiful scenery too.

I'm going to have to check it out again b/c if there was a lot of yelling, I didn't notice it. What can I say? I'm Italian. Yelling is normal for us.

I'll try to explain. It's dealing with the Multiverse in that there are many different "versions" of you across different universes; for every major decision you make in life there is a theoretical universe where you made a different decision, and the ramifications of that decision. The Michelle Yeoh character has made a lot of false starts in her life with different things, so her Multiverses are full of "versions" of herself and what might have happened if she made different decisions; versions of her is an actress, singer, chef, movie star, gas station attendant, etc. Her husband also has different versions of himself, and one of them has traveled through time to warn her of an immediate threat to the entire multiverse that just happens to be the "alternative" version of their daughter (who is struggling with a lot of trauma and self hate that has turned outward), and all the crazy starts to occur right when the family is being audited by the Jaime Lee Curtis character about deductions they made on their taxes regarding their laundry business.
In the future they have the ability to jump between the Multiverse versions and gain the skillset of another version of themselves, and since Michelle's character has failed in so many things in life she has an abundance of different versions and skillsets to choose from to help in the fight against the "evil" version of her daughter. Different characters in the film also appear in the multiverses as different "versions" of themselves as well (for example, the Jamie Lee Curtis character also appears in one of the worlds as Michelle Yeoh's lover in a universe where people have evolved as having hotdog shaped fingers) and ironically, the husband who she sometimes takes for granted is also in a lot of Michelle's other versions lives as well, suggesting that there's a connection between the two that overrides everything. In addition to the Multiverse, the film also has overriding themes of inter generational trauma passed on from parents to children, and how to break that cycle. Personally, I loved it but can understand why some would find it confusing. I guess its not for everyone?
