I went to see a movie called Mob Land. Itβs John Travolta & Stephen Dorff This was the only week it was going to be in the local theater. It was good but pretty stark.

Asteroid City: Starts slow, but then utterly bizarre things happen which take the movie into an entirely different direction? Very whimsical. I wasn't sure how I felt about this but upon thinking about it a bit more I enjoyed it.

I was looking forward to this thinking it was scifi. After a couple of minutes in I realized it was about a fake town as if Barbie lived there. Changed stream and am very sad.

We watched "The Lost King" on Acorn TV.
It's the story of the woman (Phillipa Langley) who spearheaded the efforts to dig up a parking lot (car park) in Leicester, UK after research led her to believe that Richard III had been buried there. The car park had been the site of the church in which it was believed that RIII might originally have been interred. The church had long since been destroyed, but the part below ground level had not been.
Few believed her, but she was able to garner enough financial support to dig up the area.
In the end, she was awarded the MBE by Queen Elizabeth II. So I guess if only one person believes you, having it be the queen is a good person to have!!!

I'm going to put it on my watch list

Sick in bed so I watched The Lost King. Very interesting, especially for a history geek like myself.

I watched The Dark Knight last night and was amazed at how much of it I'd forgotten. It was filmed in Chicago, and that scene where the Joker blows up the hospital actually happened; the city arranged for them to combine the demolition of a closed hospital with filming, and it was amazing.

I watched The Flash the other night and, in spite of Ezra Miller being very, well..... problematic, I actually really enjoyed it. EM definitely IS problematic, but really talented also, sadly. If they weren't talented, it would be easier to dismiss them. IMO, it's worse because either a) they'll recast the role and maybe the actor they cast won't be as good or b) the execs will opt not to go forward with any more planned DC / Justice League movies the Flash might have appeared in, which takes work away from people AND disappoints fans who are waiting for those movies.
Anyway, I enjoyed the movie. Lots of fun little cameos and call-backs. If you watch, there's no mid-credits scene, but there is a good post-credits scene.

Bones and All - how to describe this one...a cannibal/romance/horror/road trip movie? The movie itself was beautifully shot, well acted, but it kind of wandered and the two leads had zero chemistry. I'm still not sure if I liked it. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves - super fun adventure/fantasy, really enjoyed this one. Chris Pine was perfect. It ran a bit over two hours but didn't feel like it at all.

Howl's Moving Castle: A beautiful film directed by Hayao Miyazaki. I've seen other films of his like Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro and others but for some reason never seen this one until today, and it is absolutely glorious in true Miyazaki fashion, even though terrible things happen? Everyone is cursed, literally...lol. A definite watch for everyone.

There's not much in the world of modern movies that we've been interested in, so we find ourselves watching some old stuff because we like the actors.
Last night, we watched Space Cowboys. Fine drama? No. But it had Clint Eastwood, Donald Sutherland, James Garner AND Tommy Lee Jones. That made for a nice evening's entertainment.
The film was about NASA needing repair work done on a satellite that Clint had helped design. He was never permitted to go into space when it was launched, but now they needed the older crew to go fix it because it was obsolete and none of the new hot rod astronauts had a clue as to how to fix it. They were all supposed to be in their 60s or 70s.
Even now, 23 years after filming, three of the four stars are still alive (and still making movies). The only one who is dead is James Garner.

I saw Space Cowboys in the theater when it came out. Fun movie.
I started a movie on Netflix, The Platform. I didn't have an issue with the premise but when someone showed up with a dog I knew it would be a goner and turned it off.

Watched The Little Mermaid (the new one with real people) yesterday on Disney+. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the original cartoon version. I keep watching these live action remakes & every time I'm disappointed. When will I ever learn? The cast was good. I LOVED Melissa McCarthy as Ursula. Javier Bardem was also quite good as Triton. A hot Triton. The gal playing Ariel was OK, but her hair bothered me. Sometimes it looked good, but other times it was a mess. She just looked disheveled most of the time. The camera work was really irritating. The underwater stuff was full of that circular filming I hate so much. Constantly circling around in circles. It darned near made me dizzy & sick, and I never get affected by that kind of stuff. The length of the movie was also a bit much. I believe about 2 hours & 15 minutes. Needed to be cut down. Maybe get rid of some of that darned circular stuff. They kept true to the original storyline, but I kept feeling like I'd seen it before. No surprises. One thing: We found out that Triton & Ursula are brother/sister, but that never went anywhere. Bottom line: You could skip it & not miss a thing.

My friend took her grandkids and they were getting antsy near the end.

Dungeons and Dragons: A lot better than expected, with wonderful performances including Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant. Rege Jean Page is more beautiful than any man has a right to be, lol. Lots of Easter eggs for the DnD fan, but novices can still understand and enjoy it. I understand why this one had good word of mouth and legs at the box office.

Just got back from vacation, and you know what that means.... In flight movies! This trip's were: 80 for Brady. It was pretty much exactly what you'd expect, but it was a whole lot of fun to watch it play out. The actresses in it are all award winning actresses, and it shows. That's a big reason why it worked so well. They all played off each other wonderfully. They all seemed to be having a ball doing this movie, and therefore the viewers also had a ball. Next was Get Out! I've been wanting to watch this for a few years, but all my streaming services either don't have it or it's a pay movie, for $20-$30. No thanks! I figure I'm already paying for the service & don't care to be double charged for movies too. This was a great movie. It reminded me a bit of the feel of The Stepford Wives (The original one), one of my favorite movies. The casting was spot on. The acting was excellent. The story was full of twists & turns. It kept me guessing who was evil & bats (pretty much all of them, except for the lead character.) Also, great ending that just kept on giving. I'm going to have to find more Jordan Peele movies now. I give this one 5 stars.
