Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris: A 1950s housekeeper falls in love with a Dior dress and makes it her mission to go to Paris to get one. It's an absolutely delightful film that all of you should watch! I like the version with Angela Lansbury so it’s kind of put me off watching the newer version. Watched the Barbie movie. It was good but I didn’t like the ending (it wasn’t a bad ending, and I’m sure others would like it, but it’s not how I would have ended it). The best part of the movie was Ken.

I was just listening to the Barbie soundtrack; loved a lot of the songs, great music to get ready to.

I'm sure so many of my students are going to go to the Barbie movie, so I'm VERY disappointed that they made something that needed a PG-13 rating. The marketing is everywhere, there's no way the kids are going to NOT want to go. Why do they do that?? In your opinion, was it really inappropriate for young kids? I know in a preview I saw they mention the word "genitalia" -- was there much more than that? I'm not sure I'll see the movie, at least not before my students do, so I just want to get other's opinions.

There’s one swear word but it is bleeped out. There’s a brief scene about genitalia but it’s not graphic. But the themes are rather mature, dealing with things like feminism, patriarchy, depression.

Saw the new Indiana Jones movie. It wasn’t the best but at the same time not the worst. I wonder what will happen if they continue the franchise without Harrison Ford. But then again the last couple haven’t exactly increased his legacy.

Saw the Barbie movie today. I absolutely loved it. I went with my grandchildren (grade school age) & their mother.
I felt it was definitely geared towards adult women or older children rather than young children. The references & many jokes were geared to those who grew up with Barbie & the history and changes of it. With that said, I didn't find it inappropriate for younger children, but I doubt they will "get" most of it, or at least the true meanings of much of it. I think much of it will just go over their heads. My grandchildren enjoyed it, but I wonder just how much of it they "got". I'd bet their mother talked out a few things about the movie with them when they get home, but I'm not sure. The themes & meanings of it were just a bit beyond them. I do think enough of it sunk in to make them think or realize a few points.
The acting was excellent. The casting was great. The storyline was great & thought provoking. The sets were fantastic. It really did bring the world of Barbie to life, to perfection. Plus it was just plain fun. That alone would make it entertaining for children. There weren't any real villain or villains in it. Just different attitudes & points of view.

Inside: It was....interesting? I'm still thinking about certain parts.
This is a very quiet movie, almost psychological horror in nature. Willem Dafoe is an art thief who takes on a job of stealing some very important paintings from a rich art collector's Manhattan penthouse. Unfortunately for him, the high tech security system inside goes haywire, leaving him trapped inside for a long period of time with no way out. A lesser actor than Dafoe would not have carried this movie because you literally see Dafoe go from hope, to despair, and later to insanity with just a few movements and facial expressions. The whole movie takes place inside of the penthouse, which gives it a one man play type of feel. You only briefly see two other people in this movie; the focus is on Dafoe and his struggles, the apartment, and the art itself. They actually hired an art curator for the movie, and all of the art featured in the movie is listed during the credits. While I can say this isn't for everyone, it's definitely a film that will make you think.

Cocaine Bear - just as fun and campy as I thought it would be. And a lot gorier!
Knock at the Cabin - I really enjoyed this one, we're still talking about it this morning. Great cast.

Yah, Knock At The Cabin was surprisingly good. It still had Shyamalan mess in it (the scene with all the planes crashing cracked me up) but definitely an improvement from his output over the years.

Just got back from the Barbie Movie. I enjoyed it. It could have had a bit cut out of it but I still liked it. It had some interesting messages to about the two societies, real and Barbie and having a balance. I did like the final scene A LOT. I didn't expect it at all.
Also, it was fun to see some of the Barbies I remember coming to life.
Someone brought two little girls all dressed up with their Barbies. By the end of the movie they were wandering around. It really isn't a little kid's movie. Another person brought someone with special needs. She seemed to be fine during the movie.

The only scene I thought was just a wee bit heavy handed was towards the end when Gloria gave her speech about women. I agreed with every word she said & people need to acknowledge that, but I did feel like I was being lectured to. The rest of it was perfect. I can certainly overlook a bit of lecture in such an enjoyable movie. I wish there had been more Allen. He was great.

I saw the new Mission Impossible. It was really enjoyable. I find it incredible that at the age of 61 Tom Cruise still does unbelievable stunts that perhaps younger folks wouldn’t even attempt. And Haley Atwill kept right up with him. Those two had incredible chemistry together.

I didn't mind the speech but it could have been shorter, just like the beach fight/dance off. But it was a fun movie. And yes, more Alan! {Spoiler} I kind of wanted him to turn human too. We watched Vivarium on Netflix last night. It is about a couple who go to look at a house in a new suburban community. Bad things ensue of course. It was interesting enough to keep us watching until the end. We started out with Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey. Now I like tongue in cheek horror (I liked the Banana Splits movie) but it was so bad, we turned it off not even a third of the way.

Not very smart of Disney to release it now; it would have done much better as a mid September Fall/Halloweenish release.

The one with the Crystal Skulls and Shia Labeuf killed the franchise.

I loved that one. We watched Guardians of the Galaxy 3. It really was Rocket's movie. Husband said it was dark and considering the subject matter, it was. He didn't enjoy it as much as I did. He gave it a C, I have it a solid B.

Saw Oppenheimer and really liked it. It’s long though so you might want to take care of those bathrooms breaks early.
Good story and a lot of good performances. .

Hi libgirl2 We went yesterday and I was not as wowed by it as so many were. YES there are some interesting messages in it. FOR SURE. The movie is not for those under 12yo (as it is rated PG13) as I doubt they would understand all this balance of two societies. The singing and dancing was hysterical. Seeing all the Barbie's and the Ken's was fun. Will Ferrell and his entourage I could have done without. I just read that WEIRD BARBIE is available for purchase for $50.00. Reserve it on the Mattel site and it ships in May 2024. (Weird for sure). Why so costly?

I think the big draw of the movie was seeing all those Barbies and Kens and for those of us over a certain age, reliving just a bit of your childhood. I agree, Will Ferrell wasn't really necessary to a degree (the chase scenes). I'm sure Weird Barbie costs so much because she really never existed (unless you made your own). ETA-- I looked her up and she is a limited edition. Those always cost more.

What they should have done was package a regular Barbie in the Weird Barbie dress and included scissors, markers to dye hair, etc. Weird Barbies aren't manufactured- they can only be created. A missed marketing opportunity, if you ask me.
