This may be the most obscure artist I have ever run across. Here is the only thing I could find on him: Chet Oliver was/is a Rhythm & blues singer, who recorded two titles for Fortune in Detroit, Michigan, in 1956. Evidently those two titles were the one included here & the other side of the single called Cool As A Cucumber. Goin Back To Chicago by Chet Oliver www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF36jslTGs4

Jimmy McPartland was a cornetist, born in Chicago. He worked with Eddie Condon, Art Hodes, Gene Krupa, Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, and Tommy Dorsey, & often lead his own bands. His father was a music teacher and baseball player. He and his siblings for some time lived in orphanages. After being removed from one orphanage for fighting, he got in further trouble with the law. He credited music with turning him around; he started violin at age five, and took up the cornet at age 15. He was drafted into the Army during World War II & was a part of the Invasion of Normandy. He met his future wife in Belgium they married in Achen, Germany and moved back to Chicago before finally settling in New York. He died of lung cancer in Port Washington, New York in 1991, three days before his 84th birthday. He was posthumously inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame in 1992. This song goes back a ways. It was written by a couple of guys named H.C. Franks & Nick LaRocca. It had been recorded before this, but who did it originally seems to have been lost to time. It was included on an album called Jimmy McPartland's Dixieland Album & it came out in 1957. Basin Street Stomp by Jimmy McPartland www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbXmp3tUdzU

Kid Rock is a singer, songwriter and rapper. His real name is Robert James Ritchie & he was born in Romeo, Michigan. During the time I have been doing these things we have seen may artists that came from troubled homes or poor backgrounds, that doesn’t seem to have been the case with Mr. Rock or is that Mr. Kid? His dad owned multiple car dealerships & he grew up in a 5,628-square-foot home on a 6-acres of land where he regularly helped his family pick apples and care for their horses. He seems to have or at least had, a bit of an anger issue: In 2005, he was charged with assaulting a DJ in a strip club. At the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, Ritchie got into a fistfight with Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, another of his wife Pam Anderson’s ex husbands, and was charged with assault. A month later, he was arrested and charged with battery after fighting with a Waffle House customer. He pleaded no contest to one count and was fined $1,000, as well as being required to perform 80 hours of community service and complete a six-hour anger management course. During his career he has released 12 studio albums, 1 compilation album, 2 extended plays and 1 live album. He has sold 25 million albums in the US as of 2013, and over 35 million worldwide. This song comes from his Rebel Soul album. It is his 9th studio album & was released on November 19, 2012. The album got to #5 on the Top 200 albums chart & #2 on the Top Rock Albums chart. It has been certified Gold. Detroit, Michigan by Kid Rock www.youtube.com/watch?v=9NLZjOQlnJI

Info on this lady seems to have been the same on every website I clicked on & none of them actually said where she is from, but I have to assume she is from the Detroit area. Stacia Petrie Ford has released 5 albums of mostly original material and 2 albums with the Detroit Women and 2 with the group Motor City Women. Stacia's original music can be described as a modern blend of acoustic-based rock and blues with innovative lyrics that embody a fresh imaginative perspective on song themes old and new. Regardless of a lack of personal info, she has won her share of awards: Winner in 2018 Motor City Muscle song competition for the song "Detroit Women" to be included in a compilation of songs about Detroit to be released soon! (as you can see, the song has been released or we wouldn’t be listening to it today), Nominated for a total of 11 Detroit Music Awards, Won two trophies 2005 in the categories of Outstanding Acoustic/Folk songwriter and vocalist at the DMAs, Kerrville New Folk Finalist in 1998, First place in the blues category in the 2007 Unisong International Song Contest for song "Face the Blues" It’s kind of interesting that she has won or been nominated for so many awards in the “Folk” category, because this song is certainly more Bonnie Raitt style blues than it is Joni Mitchell style folk. And if this is Stacia on lead guitar, she can give Bonnie a bit of a run for her money. The song is from her Ruby Blues album that was released in 2007. Ken Hensley was an English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer. He was born in Plumstead, south-east London, but raised in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. He is probably best remembered for his work with Uriah Heep during the 1970s. He wrote or co-wrote the majority of Uriah Heep's songs during this period, including the hit singles "Lady in Black" (on which he sang lead vocals), "Easy Livin'" and "Stealin'", as well as "Look at Yourself", and "Free Me". After 1985, he lived in semi-retirement in St Louis, making a few appearances with W.A.S.P., Cinderella and others. W.A.S.P.'s frontman Blackie Lawless stated that "Ken Hensley wrote the rule book for heavy metal keyboards as far as I'm concerned." Ken also owned "The Attic" Recording studio in St. Louis. He died on 4 November 2020, at the age of 75 following a short illness he was 75. His recorded legacy seems to have no end. He was a part of 24 albums with Uriah Heep, 17 albums with other groups of various names & he also released 20 albums as a solo artist. This song comes from his album Free Spirit, it was his 3rd solo release & it came out in 1980. New York by Ken Hensley www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6WB7ubWV5k

U2 are an Irish rock band from Dublin, formed in 1976. In 1976, Larry Mullen Jr., then a 14-year-old pupil of Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin, Ireland, posted a note on the school's notice board in search of musicians for a new band. At least five people responded and attended the first practice, which was held on 25 September in Mullen's kitchen. Mullen played drums and was joined by: Paul Hewson ("Bono") on lead vocals; David Evans ("the Edge") and his older brother Dik Evans on guitar; Adam Clayton, a friend of the Evans brothers, on bass guitar; and Ivan McCormick, with whom he and Mullen had a mutual friend in Peter Martin. Martin, who loaned his guitar and amplifier for the first practice, could not play and was quickly phased out; McCormick was dropped from the group after a few weeks. Steve Averill, a punk rock musician (with the Radiators) and family friend of Clayton's, had suggested six potential names from which the band chose U2 for its ambiguity and open-ended interpretations, and because it was the name that they disliked the least. The band has sold an estimated 150–170 million records worldwide, placing them among the best-selling music artists in history. Their 5th studio album, The Joshua Tree, is one of the best-selling albums in the US (10 million copies shipped) and worldwide (25 million copies sold). With 52 million certified units by the RIAA, U2 rank as the 22nd-highest-selling music artist in the US. U2 received their first Grammy Award in 1988 for The Joshua Tree, and they have won 22 Grammys out of 46 nominations. Their catalog consists of 14 studio albums, 1 live album, 3 compilation albums, 67 singles, and 9 extended plays. This song comes from their 6th studio album, Rattle And Hum, it came out in 1988. It is a hybrid live/studio album. The album hit number one in several countries and sold 14 million copies world wide (5 million here). It also included the singles Desire which got to #3, & the song linked to here which landed at #14. When Love Comes to Town & All I Want Is You were also released as singles, but came in well up the charts. Angel of Harlem by U2 www.youtube.com/watch?v=QR07p1OtCkw

Jerry Reed, his last name is really Hubbard, was born in Atlanta in 1937 & passed away in Nashville in 2008 at the age of 71. He found his 1st success as a songwriter when label mate Gene Vincent covered his song "Crazy Legs" in 1958. After serving two years in the Army, he moved to Nashville in 1961 to continue his songwriting career, which had continued to gather steam while he was in the Army, thanks to Brenda Lee's 1960 cover of his song "That's All You Got to Do" His song "When You're Hot, You're Hot" won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance, Male, in 1971. He was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum. He was announced as an inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame on April 5, 2017; he was officially inducted by Bobby Bare on October 24. Considering how good he was on the guitar, it is kind of sad that he was inducted 9 years after he passed away. This song comes from his 18th album. It was called Both Barrels & came out in 1976. The album landed at #40 on the Country chart & included 2 singles, Gator & Remembering, neither of which got out of the upper 50’s on the country chart. Gator was actually the theme song to the movie in which he co – starred with Burt Reynolds. It is one of the few movies to have a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Tricia Yearwood is a singer, actress, author and television personality from Monticello, Georgia. She moved to Nashville in 1985 & enrolled in Belmont College and pursued a music business degree. She gained an internship with MTM Records and was eventually hired as a full-time employee. With the help of the record label's resources, she recorded a series of demo tapes and also sang background vocals for new artists. One of the artists she recorded with was Garth Brooks. Developing a friendship, he promised to help her sign a recording contract if his career succeeded. Brooks brought her to his producer, Allen Reynolds, who then brought her to the attention of producer Garth Fundis. Fundis and Yearwood began collaborating and eventually crafted a demo recording tape. In 1990, she sang background vocals on Brooks' second album, No Fences, and performed live at a label showcase. MCA Records producer Tony Brown heard her performance and was impressed. Brown helped her sign a recording contract with the label. After signing with the label, she served as the opening act on Brooks' 1991 nationwide tour. And, as they say, the rest is history. She has released 15 studio albums, 9 compilation albums, 43 music videos, & 56 singles. This song comes from her 2nd album, Hearts In Armor. It came out in 1992 & she was still being produced by Garth Fundis. It was released immediately following her divorce from her first husband. The album landed at #12 on Country & #46 on the Top 200. It included the singles Walkaway Joe #2, You Say You Will #12, Down On My Knees #19 & this song was the 1st single released, it landed at #5. The song is a semi-autobiographical account of a period when the song's writer, Matraca Berg, lived in Louisiana and became homesick for Nashville shortly thereafter. Whiskeytown was a rock/alternative country band formed in 1994 in Raleigh, North Carolina. They disbanded in 2000 when Ryan Adams left to pursue a solo career. Other members of the group included Caitlin Cary, Phil Wandscher, Eric "Skillet" Gilmore, and Mike Daly. They gradually expanded its sound outside the confines of alternative country while still maintaining its alternative roots. Adams and Cary have claimed to be reuniting on multiple occasions, as recently as 2010, but nothing new has happened yet. A scheduling conflict was blamed as the reason for the reunion not taking place The band released three albums. No two albums shared a consistent lineup; Adams and Cary remained the only constants. This song was not included on their debut album, Faithless Street, but it was included as a bonus track on the re issued version of the album. Ryan Adams wrote the song. According to Ryan, the band worked very fast and recorded the album in a week and a half. At least one song ("Hard Luck Story") was written in the studio and recorded just minutes later. As guitarist Phil Wandscher noted: "Oh yeah, it was always, how much can you do in this little time? It’s all basically live recording, and then it’s like, 'Overdubs? We don’t have time to overdub, man!' And a lot of times, that worked out better, because you don’t have time to mill around and think about it and then fuck stuff up." Today marks our last trip into the state of Texas & we spend the day in Dallas. We hear two completely different songs with the same title. Alan Jackson is a singer and songwriter born in Newnan, Georgia,. He is known for a style widely regarded as "neotraditional country". Now this is called networking: Alan got his first job in The Nashville Network's mailroom. His wife Denise was a flight attendant. While working, she came in contact with Glen Campbell and requested advice for her husband. Campbell handed her his business card of his manager and told her to call, which helped jumpstart his career. In a 2021 appearance on The Today Show, Alan announced he had Charcot–Marie–Tooth disease ( a neuro muscular disease) , stating "...it's been affecting me for years. And it's getting more and more obvious. And I know I'm stumbling around on stage. And now I'm having a little trouble balancing, even in front of the microphone, and so I just feel very uncomfortable. He is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 75 million records worldwide, with 44 million sold in the United States alone. He has had 66 songs appear on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart including 38 top five hits with 35 of those going all the way to #1. He has had 9 multi-platinum albums. He has won 2 two Grammy Awards, 16 CMA Awards, & 17 ACM Awards. He is a member of the Grand Ole Opry, & was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in 2001. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2017 by Loretta Lynn and into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018. He has recorded 16 studio albums, 3 greatest-hits albums, 2 Christmas albums, and 2 gospel albums. This song comes from his 2nd studio album. It was called Don't Rock The Jukebox & it came out in 1991. The album got to #2 on Country & #17 on the top 200 & has sold over 4 million copies. The album included 5 singles with 4 of them going to #1; the title track, "Someday", "Dallas", and "Love's Got a Hold on You", the 5th single, "Midnight in Montgomery" (a tribute song to Hank Williams) peaked at number 3. We depart Texas & Dallas with this song. Poco was a country rock band originally formed in 1968 after the demise of Buffalo Springfield. Guitarists Richie Furay and Jim Messina, former members of Buffalo Springfield, were joined by multi-instrumentalist Rusty Young, bassist Randy Meisner, and drummer George Grantham. Randy Meisner quit the band while they were recording their first album, Pickin' Up the Pieces, though his bass and backing vocal parts were kept in the final mix. He was replaced by Timothy B. Schmit in 1969. Randy eventually hooked up with The Eagles for a few years & when he left The Eagles, he was once again replaced by Timothy B. Schmit. The band is considered one of the founders of the Southern California country rock sound, and three of the members of the band have been inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as members of other bands (Furay with Buffalo Springfield, Meisner and Schmit with The Eagles). However, Poco has never been nominated since entering eligibility in 1995. They have released 19 studio albums, with the most recent one coming in 2013. This song comes from their 8th studio album, Head Over Heels, it came out in 1975. Despite the fact that the 4 members of the band were all song writers, this song which was written by Donald Fagen & Walter Becker of Steely Dan. Dallas by Poco www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSNgR6WESkA

Reading in the comments section of the video, it seems that Fagen and Becker didn't like this song, which is why I guess they gave it to Poco? Apparently, Steely Dan did record it though, and I took a listen and actually prefer the Steely Dan version to Poco's.

The Doobie Brothers are a rock band from San Jose, California, that got together for the 1st time in 1970. All the members had previously been in other bands & when they got together, they had to come up with a name. According to Tom Johnston, a friend of the band named Keith Rosen said, "Why don't you call yourself the Doobie Brothers because you're always smoking pot?" Drummer John Hartman has said he wasn't involved with choosing the name, and didn't know that "doobie" meant a marijuana joint until Rosen told him. Everyone in the band agreed that "Doobie Brothers" was a "dumb" or "stupid" name. Patrick Simmons has said the band intended to use the name only for a few early performances until they came up with something better, but they never did. The group's 14 studio albums include 6 top-ten appearances on the Billboard 200 album chart, including 1978's Minute by Minute, which reached number one for five weeks, and won the band a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group, while the single "What A Fool Believes" from the album won three Grammys itself. The band has also released 6 live albums, and numerous greatest hits compilations, including 1976's Best of The Doobies, which was certified diamond by the RIAA for reaching album sales of ten million copies, it is the band's bestselling album. The Doobie Brothers were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004, and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on November 7, 2020. This song comes from their 3rd album, The Captain and Me, released in 1973. The album got to #7 & is certified as a 2× Platinum seller. It included the singles Long Train Runnin which peaked at #8 & China Grove which landed at #15. Here is a bit of head scratching technology of the past: The album was originally released in Quadraphonic sound on the CD-4 Quadradisc system and also on Quadraphonic 8-track tape. Sometimes I run across some interesting folks without ever expecting it. Morning Mist was a duo of Terry Cashman and Tommy West. Terry Cashman, real name Dennis Minogue, is a record producer and singer-songwriter, born in New York City. He is probably best known for his 1981 hit, "Talkin' Baseball". He was also the co – writer of the hit single Someday Will Never Be The Same that became a #9 hit for the group Spanky & Our Gang in 1967. The Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum honored him in summer 2011 as part of its induction weekend. He performed his ballpark anthem once again during ceremonies on July 23, 2011, a day before Roberto Alomar, Bert Blyleven and Pat Gillick were inducted. In 2011, he was inducted into the Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame. Tommy West, was a record producer and singer-songwriter, born in Jersey City. His real name was Thomas Picardo Jr. Prior to these guys hooking up, Tommy had been a session singer and sang back-up vocals on albums by Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Sammy Davis, Jr., Connie Francis, and Mitch Ryder. The Cashman-West team also produced all the hit recordings of singer-songwriter Jim Croce. In 1975, they launched Lifesong Records, which would have hits including "Shannon" by Henry Gross and "Ariel" by Dean Friedman. The duo began an association with producer Wes Farrell and composed eight songs that were recorded by The Partridge Family: "She'd Rather Have The Rain", "Only A Moment Ago", "Every Song Is You", "One Day At A Time", "Come On Love", "Sunshine Eyes", "It Sounds Like You're Saying Hello", and "It's Time That I Knew You Better". Tommy West died from complications of Parkinson's disease on May 2, 2021, he was 78. Terry Cashman is still alive & is now 81. This song comes from 1971 It was released as a single but spent just 3 weeks on the chart & ended up at #96. It was their only charting single together. Major Lance was a R&B singer born in Washington County, Mississippi. He is another one of those people who have conflicting info about his birth. It has been listed as April 4, 1939, 1941 or 1942. However, 1939 appears to be correct. In the 1940 U.S. Census, "Mager" Lance is listed in Washington County, Mississippi, as the one-year-old son of Lucendy Lance, a widow. One thing we do know is that he died in 1994 in his sleep, from heart disease so he was somewhere between 52 & 55. His daughter, Keisha Lance Bottoms, was the mayor of Atlanta. He had most of his success on the charts with songs written for him by Curtis Mayfield. "The Monkey Time" was his first hit. A succession of hits followed, including "Hey Little Girl", "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um" (his biggest hit, reaching No. 5 in the US pop chart and No. 40 in the UK, where it was his only chart success), "The Matador" (the only one not written by Mayfield), "Rhythm", "Sometimes I Wonder", "Come See", and "Ain't It a Shame". He is also another one of those folks who had substance issues. He was convicted of cocaine possession in 1978 and served a four-year prison term. Which may or may not have led to his health issues. In 1987, he had a heart attack & he later became nearly blind from glaucoma. This song was the “B” side to a single he recorded in 1978 called I Never Thought I’d Be Losing You. Neither side charted. It must have been recorded not to long before his trip to the hoosegow. Chicago Disco by Major Lance www.youtube.com/watch?v=amUc0VYQ3po

We spend the day cruising Basin Street & hearing all that jazz coming out of the bars. Pete Daily was a swing music and dixieland jazz cornetist and valve trombonist. His real name was Thaman Pierce Daily & he was born in Portland, Indiana. He passed away at the age of 75 in 1986. In 1942, he moved to the West Coast and, after service in World War II, formed the Chicagoans. He was the leader of Pete Daily and his Chicagoans in the 1940s and 50s, He played long engagements at several Hollywood nightclubs in the 1950s including; Sardis, The Royal Room, Hangover, Mike Lyman's. Beverly Caverns and the Astors in Studio City
Despite continuing to play during the 1970s until a stroke in 1979 forced him to retire, this song is evidently one of his final recordings. It comes from the early 1950’s & there seems to have been no recordings from him after 1954. Basin Street Boogie by Pete Daily's Chicagoans www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SBaKP1QMtM

Frijid Pink is a heavy metal/ psychedelic rock band, formed in Detroit in 1967. The group spent their first two years touring throughout the Southeast Michigan/Detroit area and eventually signed with Parrot Records. Their first two singles, "Tell Me Why" (#70 Canada) and "Drivin' Blues" (both released in 1969) failed to attract much attention, but their third 1969 effort, a guitar-driven rendition of "House of the Rising Sun," reached the Top Ten on the US Billboard Hot 100 in the spring of 1970. This disc sold over one million copies, & earned the band a gold record. In 2013, the group was inducted into the Michigan Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame. Crack the Sky is a progressive rock band formed in Weirton, West Virginia, in the early 70’s. Seems like they were the recipients of some bad luck coming from their record label: In 1975, the band released their first album, the critically acclaimed eponymous Crack the Sky, which reached 161 on the Billboard 200 album chart. Although praised by The New York Times and declared the "debut album of the year" by Rolling Stone, promotion and distribution problems with Lifesong Records prevented its widespread success. According to Terry Minogue, "Records were promised but never arrived at the distribution centers. The record would be on the radio but there would be no product on the store shelves. When people wanted it, it would never be available." Regardless of that bad start, the band is still active, but is seems as if there are none of the original members involved. The new members released the groups 28th, 29th & 30th albums all in 2021. This song comes from an album called Rare! The album includes songs from four Crack the Sky albums from 1983–1990, two of group member John Palumbo's solo albums, and previously unreleased live and demo recordings. The album came out in 1994. This is one of the songs that was previously unreleased. Drifting Back to Motown by Crack The Sky www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl_EHWjhDck

Today we experience night & day in New York City. Robin Gibb CBE was a British singer and songwriter. He was born in Douglas on the Isle of Man but the family later moved to Manchester for three years (where Andy was born) before settling in Redcliffe, just north of Brisbane, Australia. In November 2011, he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer, which had metastasised to his liver several months earlier. He died in London on 20 May 2012, at the age of 62. While it was initially reported that he died from cancer, Robin-John Gibb said that his father's cancer had gone into remission by the time of his death and the cause was kidney failure. In 1994, Robin was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 1997, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Bee Gees. At the 1997 BRIT Awards held at the Earls Court Exhibition Centre in London on 24 February, the Bee Gees received the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. As a solo artist he released 8 studio albums, 2 Live albums & 21 singles. How Old Are You? was his 2nd solo album, it was released in 1983. It had been 13 years since his debut album, Robin's Reign in 1970. The album failed to chart here in the states. It included 3 singles, Juliet was the 1st, the song linked to here was the 2nd & How Old Are You was the 3rd. It seems as though none of them were ever released as singles in the US but they all charted in other countries around the world. On his official website and in social media, he posted, "A folksinger's shelf life may be a lot longer than a dancer or an athlete, but at some point, unless you're incredibly fortunate or just plain whacko (either one or both) it's time to hang up the 'Gone Fishing' sign. He and second wife Marti Ladd now live in Micco, Florida, they married in 2021. Arlo just turned 75 earlier this month. He released his last studio album in 2009 his final Live album in 2011 & his last single in 1981, which just happens to have been the song linked to here. It was included on his 11th album. It was called Power Of Love & it came out in 1981, the album stalled out at #184 on the top 200. The single did not chart at all. He actually had his last charting single way back in 1974. From one movie song to another. Billy Ray Cyrus is a country singer and actor born in Flatwoods, Kentucky. In 1992, he became the father of two children with different women: Christopher Cody, born in April to Kristin Luckey, and Miley Cyrus, born in November to Leticia "Tish" Finley. Goodness, Miley is 30?! Where have those years gone? He has had a total of 8 top-ten singles on the Hot Country Songs chart. His most successful album to date is his debut Some Gave All, which has been certified 9× multi-platinum in the United States and is the longest time spent by a debut artist at number one on the Billboard 200 (17 consecutive weeks) and most consecutive chart-topping weeks in the SoundScan era. It ranked 43 weeks in the top 10, a total topped by only one country album in history, Ropin' the Wind by Garth Brooks. He has released 16 studio albums and 53 singles since 1992. "Achy Breaky Heart", topped the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart and became the first single ever to achieve triple platinum status in Australia. This was the title song to his 11th studio album it was released in 2009. It was the 2nd single from the album. It is also a part of history: The song entered the charts for the week of March 14, 2009, where it entered at number 59. That same week, Miley charted her first solo country single, "The Climb", which entered at number 48. That was the first time a father-daughter charted their own singles since Johnny Cash and Rosanne Cash did so in 1990.
