Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
Amazon Prime dropped episode 1 and 2 on Friday (9/2/2022).
WOW!
They did not skimp on production values at all.
The casting is amazing, especially of Galadrial and Nori. Intense, they feel like real people.
There are 4 story arcs at this point:
Galadrial Elrond Nori Arondir
The cast is diverse but production is being subtle about it instead of in your face so it seems very natural.
Definitely something to watch.

I needed something lighter this week, so I watched The Summer I Turned Pretty yesterday. SO sweet and charming. Those beautiful boys! I'm sure I would be swooning over them (in a different way that I am as a grown woman!) if I was a teenage girl. I saw a review calling it a "teen drama," which felt pretty reductive. It dealt with some heavy topics too and the adults actually had a storyline. I hope it comes back for season two.
I've been so slammed with work that I haven't been able to dedicate a ton of time and attention to anything on TV. After this weekend, I'll be able to focus on the new LOTR series. I watched part of episode 1 and was so tired that I nodded right off. Slept for hours on the couch! I'll get back to it when I'm dealing with less stress and am a bit better rested.

We watched Thirteen Lives . I remember the boys being trapped, but I didn't know if I could watch them all underwater in caves so small, their equipment wouldn't fit.. Ron Howard did a wonderful job, and even when I felt claustrophobic, it kept me at the edge of my seat. We had forgotten the boys had to be sedated, but watching this movie, you can see why. The power of people coming together, is alone worth watching. A must see( jmho)

No...these are pre-quel, but if you have read/watched the LOTR series, this would set you up nicely.
Since this is a once a week offering, I'm also watching in fits and starts the LOTR movies and have started with the first - The Fellowship of the Ring.
The inhabitants, except for Orcs, Dwarves, Humans and Elves, are different, though one species acts suspiciously like future Hobbits. Probably not, but they don't appear later.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Episode 3 -"Adar" - September 9, 2022
Episode 3 does not disappoint, good intensity, all the story arcs feel equally interesting and strong.

Harfoots are considered as predecessors of Hobbits. I am loving the show through and through! It is absolutely sumptuous! But I was messed up about the elves not having long hair! But I did read about the explanation of that, so I’m good. Talking about elves, I am nutty go crazy over Legolas and now I am nutty go crazy over Arondir!❤️ 🔥 ❤️

What is so cool about Galadrial is that after she escaped her watchers she is basically doing Parkour around the city with a long dress, very much the Iron Fist in the Velvet Glove.
However, the woman is intense to the point of be obsessed about Sauron and finding him.

Well, the Prime $127 + change annual fee hit my charge account today. I guess I justify it in that as long as I have a wifi connection, I can still watch the shows on the streamer. Now I have to hang onto the $30 a month for wifi. yes, it is getting that close. Probably next to go is Disney - but I do like some of their shows...sigh

Currently half of my cable bill really is renting all the DVRs and routers and other bits. One of my friends husband cycles through the platforms, he will have Disney for 3 or 4 months, cancel that and do another service. It is a way to keep the costs down and the opportunity to watch completed series before moving on.

We watched Birdy last night, we both enjoyed it and lol. Her father, whose name I've just forgotten, was very very funny.

He was the 'hot priest' in Fleabag. I thought the young woman who played Birdy was marvelous. She was great in GOT as well.

I'm watching Jury Duty on Freevee on Amazon Prime and absolutely LOVING it! It's a fake documentary on jury duty, and everyone is an actor except for one person. The actors are so incredible, and James Marsden is in it (Enchanted), and he is absolutely fantastic.

I'm into the second episode and loving Citadel. I finally watched Daisy Jones & the Six this weekend.. so I saw some ads for it and I love the actors and all but I am not quite hooked yet. I mentioned in another post I may wait for all the episodes to come out and start over.

“Shiny Happy People” Docuseries, is a shocking expose on the Duggar Family, Bill Gothard and his Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP). Horrifying and nightmarish for me to watch, but informative, especially at this relevant time.
I forced myself to watch it initially, just because my sister said “ you must watch it”. Then binged it …….because I couldn’t stop. Yes, It was shocking and almost unbelievable (though I have no doubt, true). Michelle’s “blanket game” was a cruel and viscous abuse, as was the “buddy” system, “children raising children”. How could anyone believe otherwise?
I never watched the Duggar Family, but I of course, knew of them. Never imagined what was going on behind the camera though.

Finished seasons 3 and 4 of the Jack Ryan series - excellent ending.
I read that there may be a spinoff with Michael Peña’s character, which would be great.

Watched Red White & Royal Blue with Uma Thurman playing POTUS. It was a sweet movie where the President’s son falls in love with the prince of England. The two leads have such great chemistry, and it does get steamy. Be warned! The supporting cast even includes Stephen Fry as the King, and real-life journalists Maddow and Reid.

I agree with everything you said, although I don't think it was terribly steamy. Maybe PG-13, unless someone's still clutches their pearls about two men kissing. They didn't show much else - just suggested it. Everything shown was above the waist. I seem to remember seeing a headline recently about how it took months for them to cast the two main leads because they wanted to get the chemistry right. They definitely did! MUCH better than the fake prince from a small country near Lichtenstein stories that we get in all those Hallmark movies where the leads have zero chemistry.

Well there is a full shot of a behind, but it's not during a love scene.
I liked it -- the two leads are just plain hot and have incredible chemistry. Overall for me, the quality was one or two rungs above upper-tier Hallmark. The best scenes are lifted straight from the book. Uma Thurman is over the top and her Texas accent comes and goes, but it's great to see her in anything! I feel like it's been a while. The female roles (Alex's friend and his PR handler) totally killed. The crown prince was a flat cliche'd bad guy, and Stephen Fry made more of the King than it deserved, since it's kind of an afterthought role that comes in later in the movie.
But of course I'm going to watch it several more times.

I enjoyed “Stage Mother”. I think it is a 2020 movie, but I don’t know when Prime acquired it. It just appeared one day and it sounded interesting. A conservative choir leading church mama inherits her late son's San Francisco drag club and it transforms her life.

I was amazed at the extent of the rescue efforts but always wonder if we go to such efforts to save people why don't we put that much energy into solving domestic problems but instead either do nothing or just insult opposing viewpoints and groups.

Watched Swarm and all I have to say is Wow......just wow. What a wild ride from beginning to end. This movie has a lot to say about parasocial relationships with celebrities, and Dominique Fishback has a certain knack for playing damaged people. Not everyone out here stanning people is playing with a full deck.

I forgot that Gen V, the spinoff of The Boys, has started up. I watched the first three episodes and it is just as good as The Boys! Maybe slightly less (slightly) crass and violent, but it's totally clear that the series are related. I think you could watch it without having watched The Boys, but there are a fair number of references to events and characters from that series.
They released the first three episodes all at once, but the rest will be released weekly.

I've been watching and really enjoying Case Histories with Jason Isaacs. I think it was on Masterpiece (maybe Mystery) about a dozen years ago, but I missed it.
