This season sure is turning into a mess. In fact, the whole show/franchise is. It's leaving a lot of ugliness in it's slimy trail. Yup! It's really sad that Matt's season as the first Black bachelor is turning into such a train wreck through no fault of his. All of the drama, both inside and outside of the show is making it hard to care very much about what's going on with any love story he might have.

Based on what I’ve seen — an antebellum party is really offensive. I half no idea these things existed. This fraternity takes robert e lee as its spiritual leader? Wearing confederate army uniforms and waving confederate flags?.?? How is this okay in 2018? Or when you’re 21 or 22?
Im really really shocked. that Chris would defend that in any way shape or form.
If Rachael has come to understand how really horrendous on a deep level what these things celebrate are/were—- I’m delighted. But I have to question the casting of this show anyway. Why were so few of the women Afro-American? The whole thing strikes me as pretty bad the more I think of it.

Why were so few of the women Afro-American? The whole thing strikes me as pretty bad the more I think of it. I checked The Bachelor website. Of the 37 women participants, a full 18 were women of color. That's practically half. 2 were Asian- American and about 12 were African-American with many being biracial. Jessenia, Mari, Catalina, and I think Ryan were Hispanic. A few I didn't count, like Saneh whom I thought might be Arabic. Does that count as a woman of color? The non- white, or women of color , were CLEARLY in the majority this season, which was a good thing. I read somewhere that Abigail was partly Asian, but I didn't count her because it wasn't stated.

I’m surprised that so many were African American (as opposed to “of color” which also includes Asian-Americans Hispanic etc ). — I thought more of them were either Asian Americans or maybe of middle eastern origin. Ie Arabic or Persian. I guess being bi racial accounts for the preponderance of what I thought were more Caucasian or Asians features. It’s great to see a racial/cultural mix for sure but I was thinking that only one or two looked more like most of the black women I see around here. Not that I’m suggesting that some sort of purity is paramount— but I was thinking that in a way they were selected still paid a lot of deference to a Caucasian standard of beauty.
But maybe it’s fine too if that’s what Matt prefers. Given his final ones so far that could certainly be the case.
All I can say is that that was my inference
Thanks for the info though.

I'm assuming most were not featured players? Just around in the background. No storylines. This is a white show. If someone said well half the finalists or half the bachelor/bachelorettes were non-white then the show could legitimately claim to be inclusive.

I'd like to see people of all backgrounds and physical abilities on screen. I do think viewers want to see themselves represented and I believe the ratings would be good. And open eyes to the fact people in wheelchairs(as an example) have full, rewarding lives.

Abigail was born deaf and has a cochlear implant, while Sarah, from Sean Lowe's season and BIP, was born with only one full arm. Both forthright about how their lives (including their love lives) have and have not been impacted.

I think it would as well. I didn't watch WTA I'd had enough, but what I saw of her, I really liked. Fingers crossed..

I could get behind Abigail as the next Bachelorette. She seems very sweet. She's also half-Korean, so if they are looking for a minority/ person of color, she would fit the bill.

Reality Steve posted today on his Twitter and IG accounts that the franchise seems to have gone back to choosing Katie as the bachelorette. He says it's a done deal, but we'll see what happens.

My guess is that they might have been considering Serena until she said about struggling if CH continued as host and she was offered the Bette.

I'm a bit disappointed in this. Not a lot, but a bit. Not surprised though. What it's saying to me is that they're going back to business as usual with little to no changes. Katie is OK, but she's kind of stock Bachelorette material. Easily manipulated & willing to go along with whatever degrading cr*p this show likes to throw at us. Due to the whole vibrator thing, I can see them giving us a ton of awkward & tasteless sex based & degrading events that she will go along with willingly because that's what they ask of her. I actually kind of liked her spunkiness, and she's pretty enough & seemed nice enough. I will be watching, but this time I will be reading some spoilers in advance to see just how offensive the show decides to go. I'll give her a chance, but I am disappointed. I feel this season had better to offer. Maybe all of those "better" turned them down or weren't willing to play ball with Production.

I think they'll make a good team, though I'm not sure why two people are needed.
It's strange that the author of the article told us Tayshia's race but not Kaitlyn's. Generally, when they only mention the Black person's race we're supposed to assume the other person is White by default, which isn't cool.

I'm happy about Tayshia. She's one of the ones I said I would like as Host. Kaitlyn, however is another story. I never liked her at all. I didn't even watch her season because of this. She just seems so tacky & sleazy. The lead & show will have to be prepared for another scandal when the contestants start having s*x with the host. Not sure if I'll watch if she's there preening & strutting around pretending she's some big deal. I'll give the season a chance though. 'Till she starts her act. If she's on as little as Chris Harrison I could easily ignore her. I think I'd much prefer Chris Harrison to her, and that's going some because I don't want him back for a while.

Yeah, that's not happening. Kaitlyn has been in a committed relationship with Jason Tartick (from Becca's season) for several years. They look pretty solid. Plus, any other guy would likely be a big step down from Jason - it's the whole, "Why eat hamburger if you have prime rib at home" thing. This video of them and their dogs is just the sweetest: youtu.be/R_wS4dsoo8o
I think Kaitlyn's got a lot more substance and depth than many people give her credit for.
I'd much rather have Tayshia and Kaitlyn or really, anyone other than CH host from here on out. I just don't know how they can move forward with him after that dreadful "interview" with Rachel. His apology did nothing to ameliorate what he said. Plus, there was that moment in the last episode where he was telling the final 3 about the overnights that felt super creepy. He's old enough to be their father and while he's talking about how they'll be able to get to know each other better, talk, yadda yadda, but we all know what he meant. It's always been sort of a creepy moment, but it's gotten more so as the age difference between CH and the show participants has gotten bigger.

I agree on the good looking/wacky looking guys. Maybe some of the wacky looking ones just take a bad picture. I've seen that before on this show. What surprised me was the ages. There are just so many young ones. Katie is 30. Nearly all the guys are in their 20's, with quite a few at 25. I remember the same situation with Clare. Those guys were young! I wonder if the show just doesn't get that many decent applicants not in their 20's. Maybe the ones over 30 are all too busy working & have real jobs.

No. There's a BIP. Katie's season of The Bachelorette will air in May or June, BIP in July/August, and Michelle's season in the fall sometime (probably September). I might be off a bit on the times, but they will fit them all in. It's really stupid that they are giving Katie so many young guys. Evidence (in case there was ever any doubt) that they choose the cast without consideration for who the bachelor/ette will be and not particularly trying to find people who might actually be a good match for the lead.
