I still think Mike would've been a better choice than Colton or whoever they chose that year. I just never cared for Mike. He was one of the bullies that season who picked on Luke. I know, the guys just didn't like Luke, and the show edited it so that the public wouldn't like him either, but the other guys were just rude to him, and it seemed to be out of jealousy because old what's-her-name seemed to have a soft spot for him and they didn't like that. To me those guys came off as bullies, and Mike was one of the instigators. That left a bad feeling toward him for me. I wouldn't have wanted him as Bachelor. Maybe he's a great guy outside of the show, but first impressions die hard for me.

I heard that Rachel said she was told by the show there was "something" else that eliminated Mike from contention. I liked Eric from a few seasons past, better, and thought he could've been a great lead. Too bad the guy they'll show on Kaitlyn's season this Monday was such a jerk to her and eliminated himself, because he was very nice looking! Or what about Wills? There have been options, that's for sure.
Matt is so cute, and being friends with Tyler gives him the link to the Bachelor world, since he's not going to be on Clare's season anymore. (Is her season still on deck?) I love how he has done a lot of charity work, trying to do good in the world. To me, they likely put him on Clare's season because they wanted him to be the next Bachelor, and wanted to see how fans took to him. But now, they're just going for it. I don't think it was a sudden decision because of the current BLM movement, but has been coming because of the pressure they're getting; ever since Rachel was B'ette, they've been asked about a black Bachelor. Months ago, Tyler was pumping Matt up to be picked!
Of course, I was reading some controversy to the choice too, since he's biracial. He's "part" black, so some are upset he's not a black man, just like he's not a white man. People were going round and round about it, but I don't care - he's a POC and is darn good looking! I'm looking forward to watching him.

No one is ever going to make everyone happy. That's just the way it goes. If there's a reason they didn't cast Mike, maybe it's valid. I was never super happy with the idea of him being the Bach, but I definitely thought he'd be better than Peter. Really, though a rusty mailbox full of dog crap would have been better than Peter.
I do agree with Rachel that this is not enough, just like casting her as the Bache'ette wasn't enough. They have to cast more people of color in front of AND hire more POC behind the cameras. They also need to cast people who happily date without concern for the race of the person, not just people who say they're "willing" to date people of another race. We've seen too many seasons where the POC are eliminated before the top 8. It's getting better, but it's far from great.
I'd love to see an Asian lead too. SO tired of these boring leads that all look alike to me!
I've been saying for a while that I wish they'd go back to casting an unknown lead. Maybe the garbage fire that was Peter's season finally convinced the producers that they need to bring in some new blood.

And it took 24 seasons. Coincidence,? No. Anyway, Critical I'd love an unknown as well. I once questioned Reality Steve about it and he said that picking someone that's already known to the franchise is working for them, so they'll continue on that path. Ugh! More Instagramlebrities, I guess. 🙄

I'm sorry, but the timing of this announcement is just a bit too obvious. Yes, it's waaaay long overdue and I'm looking forward to Matt's season, but since when do they announce the next lead when they haven't even filmed the current one yet? Are they going to film the B'ette and the Bachelor at the same time? By the time they film and air Clare's season (which I don't think is scheduled yet - is it?), it could be a year before Matt's season is filmed and aired. He could meet someone and fall in love before then, unless he has to contractually agree not to.

I'm going to give the guy a chance. But I have a negative feeling to him upfront. I'm going to try to put that aside. What bothers me is the stuff leading up to him becoming The Bachelor: He was chosen & listed as a contestant on Clare's season. I'm sure with Production's intention of him being The Bachelor. Happens all the time. Then long before filming was set to begin, he set up some sort of Social Media accounts designed to take advantage of his future "popularity". When Clare found out, she called him out publicly on this. Then the show started to panic. So they made Clare modify her comments saying that "a few guys" did this & that was what she was talking about. That looked like a phony & feeble backtrack. They still feared that their Golden Boy would be sent home right away.
So they immediately pulled him from Clare's season & named him as The Bachelor, claiming it was because he was such an exemplary choice. That reason was a flat out lie. They were just trying to keep him in the public eye & save him from bad press & early dismissal.
This is an impression that's still lingering for me. I'll give the guy a chance to show he's not a phony or opportunist, but he's got some catch-up to do as far as I'm concerned.
He is good looking. Darned good looking. With the nice guy kind of looks, not the creep good looks. So that's good enough for me to put the negative stuff aside for now.

EH, I think it has a lot more to do with him being part of the Tyler C. - Hannah B "Quarantine Crew." He's never actually been on a show in the franchise, but he's as close to an existing member of the Bachelor family as you can get without actually appearing on a show.
I can see how the story could be spun negatively without all of the information. Claire called out someone for being on Cameo and taking what she thought was advantage of being cast on the show. Because Matt is on Cameo, people assumed it was him and maybe it was. In reality, he went on Cameo to raise money for people affected by the pandemic. He does quite a lot of charity work. Even if he did use his connection to the show to gain visibility, I'm cool with what he did with that attention.
A few months after the cast was announced and everything got crazy with Covid, Matt got a lot of attention as a friend of Tyler and Hannah. He has a large-ish Insta following. TPTB care more and more about SM visibility. It means there's a built-in audience who'd tune in to see him. I'm sure the producers also looked at the type of guy he is and thought he'd be better as the lead than as someone Claire might cast off over a dumb misunderstanding over SM. He might have then been picked to be the Bach after being on Claire's season, but look at the options for that role. Pretty slim pickings, IMO. Why not just pick him now, silence (partly) the complaints about the lack of racial diversity on the show and kill two birds?
He's great looking, seems to have a good heart and is connected to several very popular people who were on a fairly recent season. I don't see why they wouldn't pick him.

These last 2 Bachelorettes this season are both a pleasant change from some of the recent ones. I couldn't stand pageant girl Hannah & her "my sh*t don't stink" attitude. I so wanted one of the guys to tell her to get off her high horse & show some humility. Becca was borderline OK, but I didn't care for her taste in men at all. Her Final 3 were all dislikable to me. As for recent Bachelors, I haven't cared for the recent seasons either. Peter was unlikable & his season awful. Colton's was barely tolerable & weird because of the end. Arie I didn't even watch because I've never liked him. So I'm looking forward to someone I can like. Matt has good possibilities.

So it's my understanding Chris Harrison made a big blunder and has since apologized profusely and has decided to step away for a bit. I'm not super clear on the scoop behind it but I think this show will tank without Chris, much like how DWTS flopped without Tom.

Cuddles, according to the link I'm providing Chris is stepping away and will not be there for the After the Final Rose Ceremony and possibly longer. The link also posted Chris's Instagram post where he apologizes for 'excusing historical racism.' This is all in response to an interview he did with Rachel Lindsay, coming to contestant Rachael K's defense, over things she had out there on social media, of a racist nature. www.tmz.com/2021/02/13/chris-harrison-stepping-away-bachelor-duties-racism-scandal-apology/

For any who are interested in a summary of what happened and commentary on it by someone from Bachelor Nation, Sharleen Joynt has written about it in her Bachelor recap blog instead of doing a recap this week. What she writes seems to me to be a pretty fair and balanced summary of things. A few caveats: 1)She writes at points about some strong feelings and there is swearing involved, so be forewarned. 2)The TikTok video that she includes about Rachael is by a person who doesn't really vet the info she posts, so there may be things in there that aren't accurate, but a fair amount of it is. 3)The commentary is spoiler free, but toward the end, she does do some speculating about the season ending. She gives a spoiler warning beforehand, so don't scroll past that point if you don't want to know what she things happens. Here's the link: www.alltheprettypandas.com/bachelor25/episode6

So what exactly is an antebellum party and more specifically I guess what did Rachel know before she went? The girls wear antebellum era gowns, held on plantations, confederate flags to decorate, sometimes blacks serving them. Also called Old South parties. ...All according to google.

So what exactly is an antebellum party and more specifically I guess what did Rachel know before she went? I'm pretty sure she knew that it was celebrating the time in the pre-Civil War South when white people were living a life of luxury because slaves were doing all the work. She apparently didn't see attending something like that as problematic, which is why people were upset with her. If you want to understand more about why it's troubling and how people are reacting to it and to Chris's interview, there are plenty of articles you can read including the one I posted by Sharleen Joynt.
