Listening to one of Jussie's attorneys on CNN last night, it definitely sounds like the prosecutors were vulnerable not so much due to lack of evidence but rather misconduct. To avoid problems, they agreed to drop the charges. From Jussie's perspective, I'm surprised he'd agree to it if he was truly innocent. The way things played out there is still a veil of suspicion surrounding him. Had he been acquitted, that would all go away. Perhaps his legal team also recognized that an acquittal was not likely so pushing the misconduct was their best bet?

This is a huge mystery! HUGE! And from what I saw today the Superintendent of Police and Rahm Emanuel are LIVID! Watching CNN earlier it was stated that just this past Friday the court was deciding on whether cameras would be allowed in the courtroom during Jussie S’s trial. Then Tuesday morning “all charges dropped” ❓❓❓ The rumor is the prosecutors screwed up hence THEY were the ones dropping all the charges. The Courts are stating JS was NOT exonerated......so he should not be telling people that. As far as the City of Chicago......JS is still guilty of what he is charged. A name to google is KIM FOXX. #corruption I find this part both sad and laughable considering the fact that Rahm helped protect the police officers that murdered Laquan McDonald and covered up the Burger King Tape. He's had more Vitriol for this than that and that and it says a lot about him as a person. He can keep his sanctimonious attitude about this case IMHO.

I do not find ANY OF THIS laughable in the least.

Everything including the end result is most likely due to their inability to properly police and be ethical. Hence my informed opinion.

Well, let's hope it gets sorted out, something just doesn't sit right with me.. I agree FannyMare the CPD has so much EVIDENCE on JS setting this attack up. He had 16 FELONY counts against him and then just like they are dropped. It's all very strange. I've heard/read two different attorneys, not connected to the case, saying how highly unusual this case is. That Foxx recusing herself because she talked to someone from his camp then it's her office that drops the charges is highly suspect. She's still the one who's in charge of that office. I'll see if I can find they article I read this morning where they said normally in this situation he would have had to accept some blame but that he didn't is extremely unusual. They have definitely still said he is not exonerated, plus what amounts to a $10,000 fine and community service does not usually go with exoneration . It's extremely shady what the State's Attorney's Office did from what I'm seeing. eta: www.apnews.com/257bcec549a0447b80524ed1ac0820ceMany legal experts were surprised by the dismissal, especially the fact that it did not include any condition that Smollett apologize and admit he staged the assault.
“This situation is totally bizarre. It’s highly, highly unusual,” said Phil Turner, a Chicago defense attorney and former federal prosecutor with no ties to the case.

I'm sure I heard that I think yes, but it's community service he already did, which again unusual because it wasn't set up nor monitored by a judge. (And from what I understood very weird "community service" to say the least.)

I did see that they were reporting that after ALL THAT...Wendy did show up for her program on Tueasday. I will be watching today to see what she says. Wendy was on the show today. In one of her hot topics she made a comment about men abusing women. She paused and looked at the camera after she said it. I think it was something like "what kind of man hits a woman?" That is not an exact quote. I don't completely remember it. I am trying to understand the Jussie Smollett situation. On Daily Pop they are saying that only Jussie's lawyers are saying he is exonerating and that his charges were dropped because Jussie forfeited his bond and did two days of community service. Jussie could sue Chicago PD and the brothers could have a defamation case if they are blamed for the crime. The FBI could still go after Jussie, so he is not completely out of the woods.

A very good summary of how strange and convoluted this is. Judge Alex Ferrer flat out calls it "corruption." Jussie had friends in high places who called THEIR friends in Chicago.

I thought it smacked of corruption and wondered if there will be any fall-out, investigations, etc. in that office. I'm not up enough to know, can heads roll from this?

Turns out that about 40 pages of documents have been released by the Chicago PD; a subsequent court order has directed them to release nothing else.
Heads DO need to roll.

ITA AZChristianAs I posted above I called it CORRUPTION last night as that is exactly how I feel too. I am glad there are others feeling the same way. To have 16 FELONIES lodged against you and the EVIDENCE was staggering IMHO and then wake up Tuesday to EVERYTHING IS DROPPED because you did 16 hours of community service. ARE.YOU.KIDDING.ME...........OMG

Something just smells funny about this whole thing. I felt that in the beginning. Then when the investigation very rapidly came to all sorts of "answers". Now with the whole thing being dropped so abruptly & with no explanation, it smells even funnier. Something is going on that they all are hiding, and now they've gag ordered the whole thing. This is just off.
In the end, if they've dropped all charges & cleared Jussie, I hope people let him resume his role on the show & resume his career. Cleared is cleared & he needs to be able to move on.

I live in the Chicago area so I have heard a lot on the news about it. This morning on the radio they had a quote from someone with the case that they do think he is guilty. This is such a mess, there needs to be an investigation as to how this was handled. I know on the world stage this might seem minor but it really isn't.

But he performed 16 hours of Community service and decided to forfeit ALL OF HIS BOND ... the whole $10,000. And he goes FREE ... REALLY ![:shrug](//storage.proboards.com/6943657/images/UjEYIawKr0DSmqWzXgnU.gif) for a HOAX HATE CRIME ... he goes FREE. Jussie needs to STOP saying and telling the media he was EXONERATED because he was NOT. This is all very corrupt. The EVIDENCE alone was staggering that they had against JS.

I'm curious to know - and don't know the details of the law here - is whether or not Jussie had a say in the charges being dropped. It was not a plea deal so I think he may not have. If it was negotiated, then I'd think that accepting the charges being dropped would indicate he's likely guilty only because I think an innocent man in his circumstances would have wanted to go to trial to not have the "was he guilty?" question hanging over his head.

I think that it's easy for people to forget the impact these days of being judged in the court of public opinion. What they did was wrong, and to face the legal ramifications for that is right. But the way that wrongdoing is handled these days via public outrage can I think cross over into cruel and unusual punishment. I've been dismayed by some of the things I've seen written about Laughlin's daughters, who may be entitled and spoiled, but they are still young women being blasted that way. I'm not sure that people always remember they are talking about real life people with some of the comments they post on people's social media. Facing that would be grueling for anyone.

I'm glad the FBI is getting involved. Considering the CPD's sordid recent history of lying, covering up their fellow policeman's crimes, putting innocent people in jail, harassing people, making up/manipulating "evidence", and even running a "torture building" where people routinely disappeared, were not allowed to contact family/attorney and were held without any charges (until the FBI and other new outlets found out about it) I can't believe a thing from their lying lips. People have no idea how many lawsuits CPD has had to settle over the years due to misconduct (that gets passed on to us Chicago taxpayers, of course) and I just shake me head at everyone believing them. Maybe it's because I live here and have had a ring-side seat to a lot of the corruption so I have a different perspective, but...yeah.
And yeah, Rahm needs to sit down and shut up, especially since he was found to be complicit in that tragic McDonald case. There's a reason why he's not running for re-election this year.

From my initial gut reaction, to the oddity of a public briefing on the matter, and then to the statement Jussie's attorney made after charges were dropped, I still maintain there is something going on with that check!
I think they rushed to judgment and submitted a perfectly innocent check as evidence to a grand jury.
