I mic has not said a peep about the table settings this year even though Hannah has made them a focus!

I hope it doesn’t change during the season - I am so impressed with Malia so far! I loved the way she helped out with Lara. Her honesty talking to her at the bar was great! And I love that when she talked to Hannah about it she was receptive in supporting her but didn’t turn it into a nasty bitch session. I also like that she’s started dealing with deck crew problems so quickly and directly.

I'm glad Lara quit, she really was toxic. I just wonder who they're bringing in, obviously not good if they said Hannah already knows her. I would love if the girl from last season came back, the potty mouth, can't remember her name.

I have a hunch it's going to be Bugsy, and I'm guessing it was designed that way from the start. The clues to me are 1) Bravo reran her season of Below Deck Med yesterday 2) Hannah mentioned her at the start of the season when she found out that Lara (like Bugsy) had been a chief stew. It will create more opportunities for Sandy to point out all of Hannah's short comings, which makes Sandy even happier than the crew nailing docking into a tight space!

I haven't read the spoilers but I too think it will be Bugsy. I really liked her.
I agree about Malia and I think Bravo is doing some work to try and make-up for that boatload of misogyny with Asston and crew.

Oh! One other observation from last night - It REALLY annoyed me the difference between how Sandy handled Malia's issues with her crew and how she handled Hannah's issues with Lara. She barely gave Hannah anytime to explain the issues, and then pushed it all right back to her to handle. Even when Hannah got her involved in the sit down, she was rather passive. Then with Malia, she jumps all in and makes it not just about Malia, but about her too? I thought she was wrong on both counts - she would have been better falling in the middle. Understand what Hannah was facing, and guide her on how to handle it, offering to provide reinforcement if needed. And with Malia - she also should have guided her on how to handle it and offered reinforcement if needed. By her taking the lead immediately in talking to the deck crew, she weakened Malia's authority.

Oh! You are so right!
Also, I didn't see Malia saying 'do not say that to me, that is not appropriate'. Which I think would be step #1. And she was talking to Sandy as a conversation I thought, not as a status update so things escalated quickly.

I kind of have a feeling that Malia was surprised it escalated like that too! Sandy saw her own experiences in Malia and made it about her and everything she’d wanted to say to coworkers in the past.
I agree with you about Malia not saying anything. It’s odd, because she’s been good at addressing other things, but not that. I get that it’s demeaning to even have to correct it. But there are less direct ways to handle it too. She could say “I prefer Malia or Bosun”. Or when they’re in a group and he says sweetie, she could turn to one of the guys and say “I think he’s talking to you”. It doesn’t make it right that he does it, but every time he does it without her addressing it, she’s weakening her position.

Yes last season was a bad mix of misogyny vs misandry

I can definitely see the thinking that having an all woman dept head crew this year, it was a counter to the misogyny of last season. But I'm not sure that if that was their mission they are accomplishing it. The way the deck crew has reacted to Malia affirms that misogyny is alive and well in yachting!

True, misogyny and misandry are around in a lot of different aspects unfortunately.

Peter has been fired for a racist comment from the past. They’re going to minimize his appearance on the show the 2nd half of the season.

Did they just happen to find out about what Pete said in the last week? Or didn't they mind before then?

I did love how when Lara was quitting she hadn't even finished her sentence when Sandy grabbed the walkie talkie from her What a weird way to quit too. She walked off the boat - with her walkie talkie - and nothing else? They had to go pack for her? Why not pack first? Ugh. So glad she is gone. There wasn't ONE thing I liked about her.

I was listening to an episode of Andy's show on Radio Andy over the weekend. It was a replay from a day last week after the VPR firings had been announced. There was a woman (who said she was black) who called in and said that she didn't like the approach of firing cast members for these remarks - that she'd rather see them stay on their shows so the public could see if they learned and grew at all after being called out. She said that if they didn't, that would make a statement to the audience too which she saw as valuable. I thought it was an interesting perspecitve. Andy batted it around a bit, and did concede that their shows are interesting because they cast flawed people. I think that answers to why they don't do a better job of vetting. They truly are not looking for good people with clean backgrounds, so they don't vet for it. But right now, the tides have turned and it's uncomfortable for them to argue that point. After coming through a time that ad revenues were down because of lockdowns, they probably figure it's too risky to do nothing and have shows that end up on do not buy lists for advertisers. So they're going to over correct now, and as soon as ad spends start going back up again, they'll probably be more comfortable in explaining flawed people again.

Interesting. I sort of took it as "if they were my employee, they would be fired" and also, Bravo isn't where I go for a teaching moment. Of course, we shouldn't sweep race discussions under the carpet, however, this was not a race discussion. This was a firable offense and so bizarre that I have a hard time understanding this man's post as well as deciding if it was more racial than misogynistic. I can't comment on VPR people because I don't watch the show nor follow why they were fired. But I'm all for people having conversations on why some things are micro-aggressions or macro. I mean, if Bravo had a bunch of social workers doing 'pillow talk' on Bravo shows, I would be first on line to watch!

Just watched the last episode and kept thinking to myself what a tool he is. Him showing his pictures to Lara (and her admiring them) was so ridiculous. She showed concern for his dad's cancer for about 15 seconds.
Bye, Pete. Won't miss you for a millisecond.

Capt Sandy showed perfectly why you don’t act on an issue without knowing all the info, and why you don’t correct a group for an individuals behavior! She should have asked Malia for specifics on being called sweetie. Instead she jumped right in. Then she pisses off two good deckhands by correcting them and the one who NEEDS to be corrected doesn’t even know the message is for him! Bad managing Sandy!
ETA: it was also crappy of Sandy to take issue with the laundry room. She should have raised it with Hannah and let Hannah deal with it. But more important she should have recognized they were down a stew and given them a break! Would it have been better to be late serving the guests cold food because they were doing laundry instead?

Although I guess it wasn't too hard to figure out. It WAS pretty predictable I couldn't believe Sandy getting on Jessica (is that her name?) for the laundry room. Lara had been doing laundry service and without her you can imagine how easy it would be for the laundry room to be a mess. In fact...didn't we see Sandy herself and other crew members helping in the laundry room? Why yes...we did Perhaps SANDY made that mess She gets annoyed with the stupidest stuff. It makes me wonder if some of these lines are given to her.

I've wondered if she isn't prompted by producers to be so nit picky. But if that's the case, why don't Lee and Glen do the same thing? That makes me think it's her style.
On Hannah and Jessica were on WWHL last night and on the after show they were asked about it. I thought Hannah's response was very fair - "Do you want great table decor that the guests can see or a neat and tidy laundry room that the guests never see? Because when we're down a stew, you only get one of those.

Well she is a woman. Perhaps the producers want her and her alone to come across that way. ....unfortunately. I don't know. Her comments just seems really bizarre and out of context sometimes.

I was watching some of the unseen footage episode of last week's show. One of the unseen moments was a scene between Sandy and Hannah after their sitdown with Lara. In it Hannah was dismissing most of what Lara had said by insisting she was lying. Sandy told her that didn't matter - that she just needed to change her approach with her to make things work. The advice she was giving Hannah was pretty good - and it also showed she was doing what she should do as captain by managing her dept heads instead of the crew.
So at some level - you're right. They are editing her to look the way she does.

lmao @ the terrified look when Hannah heard that Bugsey was going to be there. It looked like she had seen a ghost. I want to see how those two do together this time. Hannah doesn't seem to get along with too many people. I thought they were going to start editing Pete's scenes down more? Maybe they did, but he was still in a good amount of the episode.
