Last night, there was an early screening of the movie in the area, but I wasn't able to make it! So bummed, but too busy at school this time of year. A group of us teachers are hoping to go the weekend it opens -- I am VERY excited!!!

We went to see DA last night, and it was fabulous on the big screen. Julian Fellows imho, left it open for another film, perhaps later next year. New characters were introduced, lots of laughter and a few tears. Maggie Smith had the best one liners, delivered in a way, only she knows how.
Imelda staunton joined the cast she is Jim Carters ( Carson) wife in RL . If you enjoyed the series, you will definitely enjoy this movie.

I really liked it as well, it was a big delicious plate of comfort food. Some parts were a little hokey and Julian Fellowes still doesn't know how to fix big plot holes, but it didn't matter in the end. {Sort of spoiler but not} I think bringing in Imelda Staunton as Cousin Maud is a way to set up for future movies without Maggie Smith, who really doesn't want to do them anymore (hence that scene near the end). I would bet Maud will hang out with Isabel and say the lines Julian would have written for Violet.

I loved the movie, and agree, maybe there were some contrived and hokey storylines, but it was all delivered with the elegance you would expect from Downton Abbey ..... Plus, it was very satisfying to see “our family” again! It was easy to guess the outcomes from the beginning, yet, sitting back and watching it play out was sweetly savored. I had great dreams that night! Very satisfying in every possible way! ( And, well done Anna, haven’t you turned into a “modern woman”!)

I knew about the 2nd movie.. and I was thrilled.. but the 7th season, now this is something! I will miss Maggie Smith, as it was said she would likely not return for the 2nd movie. She really did have some of the best 1 liners, lol.

Official announcement this morning... ------------------------- ‘Downton Abbey 2’: Cast, Director & Release Date Confirmed As Production Gets UnderwayBy Andreas Wiseman April 19, 2021 5:51am Focus Features has set production with Gareth Neame’s Carnival Films on Downton Abbey 2. The original principal cast will all once again return for the second film which began production last week and is set to release Christmas 2021 on December 22, 2021. Original stars includes Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Imelda Staunton and Maggie Smith. In addition, Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West will join the cast. Downton creator Julian Fellowes will once again write the film’s screenplay, with Emmy winners Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge back to produce with Fellowes. BAFTA and Emmy-nominated director Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn) will join the filmmaking team to direct the sequel. The first film, which took more than $230M and was based on the TV juggernaut of the same name, followed a Royal Visit to the Crawley family and Downton staff from the King and Queen of England and ended with a ball fitting for the Royal Family. Gareth Neame, the film’s producer and executive chairman of Carnival Films said: “After a very challenging year with so many of us separated from family and friends, it is a huge comfort to think that better times are ahead and that next Christmas we will be re-united with the much beloved characters of Downton Abbey.” Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski added: “There’s no place like home for the holidays, and we can’t imagine a better gift than getting to reunite with Julian, Gareth, and the entire Downton family in 2021 to bring the Crawley’s back home for their fans.”

Oh my cold dead heart just skipped a beat! I hope that it is true, as much as I love the whole cast she is the icing on that cake.

That sentence in the article confused me too, but then it says " Original stars includes..." so they probably mean who starred in the original show, not who will be starring in the second movie. {Spoiler}I doubt Maggie Smith will be back, since she basically insisted on being written out of the franchise with Violet's news at the end of the last movie.

I suspect the next movie would be a funeral and Tom's wedding. IMO it would be lovely to have Imelda Staunton back. She is too good to only use once

Ohh ohh ohh.. Tom and Lucy, Tom and Lucy, Tom and Lucy I cannot be happier to see that we do get a wedding! Right now my only complaint is not enough Matthew Goode... maybe he was too busy with A Discovery of Witches to commit?? But other than that, and the obvious missing Granny, It looks amazing! The children growing up, ugh.. it makes me feel old too. This is one show I would hold in a time loop if I could.. I never want their stories to end.

I have seen the Family Wedding Photo and like other fans, noted that both Violet and Henry (Matthew Goode) are missing. I hope the reason isn't a sad one. Why would Mary be photographed with her daughter and son, but not have Henry by her side? He is in (Used Car Dealership) partnership with Tom is't he? You would think he would at least be the Best Man.... ugh

I was concerned that Edith only has one child in the pic.. makes me wonder just how much time has passed since the last movie and she doesn't look like shes still pregnant.

re: Edith's baby: If it's an infant, it's with the nanny 80% of the time so I'm not surprised that it's not in the family picture.

It’s great seeing how much the children have grown though. Since we don’t know about Henry, I am not going to speculate; but he is listed in the credits, so I’ll be happy to see him. I’m excited to see the movie as soon as it comes out. I don’t care if I have to wear two masks to do it, I’ll be happy regardless!
