I mean, he was IN Game of Thrones, but until I looked up the pics, I didn't remember him.....actually, no, even with the pics, I didn't remember him in GOT. He was part of a huge group of actors (I think he was a wildling) and only in three episodes. Journalists just do that stuff - link actors to the biggest project they were in - to get clicks. The worst is when they use wording like, "Game of Thrones star...." Not really.
Fans of Banshee will remember him as the Albino when Hood was in prison. I know him from that role and the news about the actor's behavior isn't a surprise at all. Maybe it was typecasting.

I looked up Star Trek Into Darkness and he was an in the background Science Officer; so another not a big role. I'm watching the new documentary about what makes a psychopath on Discovery + and he has the look of one with the dead eyes in the photos I've seen.
Oh, he also played Frost Giant Grundroth - another minor role - in Thor.

He's a really distinctive looking person, so I think he's probably tough to cast for most lead roles. His role in Banshee was only 5 episodes, but he made a HUGE impact. Anyone who's watched the show would remember the Albino.

I have never watched GoT so I have no idea how big of a role he has in it.

Not sure if this is the correct thread but it is anyone following the Johnny Depp / Amber Heard defamation trial?
I have to say I am biased as I am not a Johnny Depp fan. In fact I think drinking and doing drugs over the years has not been good for him.
It comes across as if these are two people that should never have married as they are not good for each other.
Johnny Depp comes across as vindictive filing lawsuits in the UK and US. I don't think anyone cares about his reputation or career. He needs to let this blow over.
From Amber Heard's point of view she is a victim of domestic violence and she may be talking about several relationships. I really hate it when a man says that it not true that never happened. Well, she felt it happened. Johnny Depp feels he is a victim of domestic abuse. Trouble is do I really believe someone who may be "acting" when being questioned in court.
I wish the judge would just dismiss this case and order both parties to shut up about the relationship.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of Johnny Depp - at least not the JD of the last twenty years - but Amber Heard is horrid too. I think she's a toxic opportunist who did whatever she had to to get him to leave Vanessa (and they'd been together for years) and marry her. He's no angel either, by a long shot, but she's terrible too. They deserve each other.
If you haven't read the profile of JD that was in Rolling Stone a few years back, I highly recommend it. I think he fussed about it after the fact, but it was very illuminating and kind of sad....in the pathetic way, not in the "boohoo" way, at least to me.
It's a bummer than JD seems to have let substance abuse ruin his career and his life. The recent pictures of him are really sad. He's aged so much. Alcohol bloat too.
I'd be really happy to not see any more articles about this ridiculous trial in my news feed.

There is always redemption and recovery but this need to prove to the world that is it all Amber's fault is not helping him at all.

I honestly think she gets off on it. It doesn't excuse his behavior but I never liked her. This isn't her first go around. IF he only would have stayed with Vanessa and concentrated on his career and being healthy mentally and physically. Mark my words, I'm sure Amber will get involved in a situation like this again. And his career is toast unless he launches a comeback at some point like they all do or try to do.

As soon as he went in for doing big box office movies, I lost respect, especially since those bloated Pirates movies were SO terrible and his acting was NOT good. I was disappointed and a bit embarrassed for him. I mean, he was laughing all the way to the bank, but he had such a great early career and made a point of avoiding "movie star" roles to do more interesting work.
I think he was already coming off the rails when he was with Vanessa. He's had substance abuse issues for a long time. I think Amber made things exponentially worse, but he wasn't mentally or physically healthy before she came on the scene.
While some of his exes came out to defend him and say that he's never physically abused them, apparently, there are some who have stayed silent. Over the years, I've read gossip items about his abusive behavior. Plus, he's been friends with that psychopath and abuser Marilyn Manson for a very long time. Birds of a feather and all that....
Amber's a horrible opportunist AND she can't act. Maybe her career will survive this trial, but I'd guess she's going to be making more money yachting with rich men than in movies.

At this point he is legally harassing this woman through the courts and he needs to not. When Elon Musk is the voice of reason about your relationship it's a mess. The British courts found him guilty of abusing her just like this court should. He is a drunken, hot mess who needs to sit down somewhere and stop being an abusive piece of crap, clean up, stop being lazy, and get in shape to take better roles. The reason why I'm singling him out is because he has kept this going for years after they split and she has more or less gone on with her life. I am annoyed at how often this crap is coming up on my timeline despite me repeatedly checking "Not interested" on it, it's like they want you to see it (and I don't).
I don't understand how some people online are incapable of realizing you can be different people in different relationships and you can be horribly abusive in one but not another. He was with Vanessa for a long time, but it was also at a period in his life where he wasn't drugging or drinking to excess, which probably made a huge difference.

Regarding sexual molestation of children.
Statistics indicate that one out of every four female children have been molested, as have one out of every six male children. SOMEBODY - or LOTS of somebodies - are doing this! As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, I pretty much learned not to allow myself to be alone with ANY man (yes, I know women do it, too, but to a MUCH smaller degree).
Sexual abusers are usually not smelly homeless men looking for random prey. They are pastors, doctors, family members, teachers, English royalty and - sometimes - famous actors around whom people feel safe. To this day, if I'm in a public place (movie theater, restaurant, etc.), I've been known to look around and think to myself, "Hmmm. There are about 100 people in this room. How many of (you) including myself, have been - or are being - molested?" And I know that probably 25% of any females have been, and 17% of the men have.
And if there are 100 men in that group, statistics would indicate that there are at least THREE sexual abusers there.
These are sobering statistics, but knowing them can perhaps make parents or other protective adults more alert as to potential dangers that are there.

Wow, the divorce was finalized in January of 2017 and it looks as if Depp kept all of his assets and only had to pay Heard $7 million. Don't walk, run from that. Yet then he turns around and sues his management company for misspending his money. Supposedly his fortune of $65 million is gone. Can't blame Amber for that. Five years later and how many lawsuits later we are here. Does anyone hear the lyrics from the song "Let It Go"?

He didn't like having their exchange made public in the first place, and I guess he didn't want any parts of this mess. One thing I am very conscious of is what I write in a public forum like this site, work emails, personal emails, and texts. Don't say/write something that can come back and haunt you. It is one thing to be more open about your feelings regarding spouses and families during a verbal conversation and lets face it we all have to vent on occasion, but to state those same topics in a digital medium that can be restored and used against you in a court of law is another. I don't blame Paul Bettany wanting to step back from this manure fest. No one is going to look good once it is over. I did read Johnny Depp's wikipedia page and he was lauded by critics when he was doing independent films and that was Depp's choice but the critics turned on him when he started doing more mainstream commercial projects such as the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise. Good reviews from critics do not pay the bills. It also looks as if Johnny Depp was living the life of a "film star" and not paying any attention to his finances, big mistake. Depp does have a history of being violent destroying hotel rooms, assaulting paparazzi, and of being involved in lawsuits. Attorney fees will leave a big dent in anyone's finances. Johnny also has a history of bad behavior on set, add drugs and drinking to that, and having a huge ego from being famous all that equals a personal and financial disaster. I was not a fan before knowing all this and thought the current trail was a waster of time and resources. This new knowledge in my mind does not paint Depp the victim he is trying to portray to the jury.

His fans are absolutely horrible. If you say anything that is remotely pro-Amber on Twitter you will immediately get hit by a whole swarm of people and bots saying the most ugly things to you (I guess they think being nasty is the way to change your mind?). Apparently, for some people Johnny Depp is the hill they want to die on and they sit on Twitter all day looking for positive Amber posts so they can attack that person. What kind of lack of life? Couldn't be me!

He's had lawsuits over the years (everything from sexual harassment to outright bullying and basically being a loud, garbage person) and the studios have always settled them for him out of court, which is why I'm not surprised that a lot of you haven't heard about it. Apparently the executive producer position on the Wonder Years reboot made him act like an even bigger toerag than he normally does (which is saying A LOT) and they had no other choice but to fire him.

He had a sweet image to protect, of course producers would want to hide any bad behavior. And, thank you for a new favorite word. Toerag will become a part of my vocabulary from now on.

You and I must read the same gossip sites!
It's rumored that the original WY series got canceled because Jason Hervey and FS (I believe 20 and 16 at the time) physically and sexually harassed a costume designer to the point that she filed a lawsuit. That just tells me that Fred Savage has not changed a bit. Unfortunately, when young people grow up in a situation where they're allowed to do whatever they want, are coddled and fawned over AND are not parented or made to follow any rules, this is what happens.
While the ladies aren't batting a 100% on not sexually harassing on sets (Lena Waithe, I'm looking at you, unfortunately), they're definitely doing a better job than the men ever have. Whenever I see something about another female-run/-led show, it makes me so happy because there's a good chance (or at least a better chance) that everyone will be safe and respected on that set.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The prosecution in Joshua Duggar’s child pornography case submitted a sentencing memorandum Wednesday seeking two decades in prison for the former reality TV star.
The detailed 30-page document concludes with the government asking the Western District of Arkansas Federal Court for a “guidelines-compliant sentence” of 20 years for Duggar, 34, who was found guilty of receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography in December 2021.
For sentencing purposes, one of those two charges was dismissed, so 20 years is the maximum possible sentence.
The defense submitted a memorandum asking for a sentence of five years, stating that Duggar is seeking a sentence that is “sufficient, but not greater than necessary.”
It concluded by quoting an “age-old adage [that] ‘justice must be tempered with mercy.’”
The prosecution’s filing details Duggar’s two-count indictment in April 2021, as well as the subsequent trial on those charges and the guilty verdict. It proceeds to explain his crimes in detail, including downloading and viewing child pornography over a four-day period, using a “hidden partition on his work computer” and a “BitTorrent Peer-to-Peer file-sharing client.”
The filing also stated that “the offense involved 600 or more images.”
The document also makes note of Duggar’s “prior sexual exploitation of multiple minors” and allegations of “the extraordinary efforts Duggar took to obtain and view child sexual abuse materials (CSAM), the nature of the CSAM he obtained and viewed, his efforts to conceal his criminal conduct, and his refusal to take accountability for or acknowledge any of his criminal conduct.” Two weeks remain until Josh Duggar’s sentencing
The prosecution addressed objections made by the defense regarding insufficient evidence. The filing refutes the defense’s statement that “there was absolutely no evidence that Duggar ‘knowingly’ distributed any materials,” calling him “a very savvy computer user” who “distributed CSAM to Detective Amber Kalmer,” the Little Rock officer that first investigated Duggar’s activity.
The memo continued with support detailing the prosecution’s desire for a sentencing enhancement due to “material that portrays sadistic or masochistic conduct or other depictions of violence.” This included explicit descriptions of specific files that Duggar downloaded and distributed to law enforcement.
They also sought an enhancement for “engaging in a pattern of activity involving the sexual abuse of minors,” and cited “repeated acts of child molestation” that were detailed during the trial through testimony by family friend Bobye Holt. The filing further notes comments regarding molestation made by the defendant’s father, Jim Bob Duggar, at a pretrial hearing.
Again, the government cited multiple relevant court cases that support their stance seeking the enhancement. They also took issue with Duggar’s claims that his offense “only involved 127 images,” claiming that the evidence presented at trial involved over 600 images.
The memo continues by explaining the “great lengths” Duggar took to circumvent accountability software on his computer in order to download CSAM and “at the same time conceal and therefore prolong his ability to engage in this conduct.” Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar speak out after son Josh’s child pornography conviction
He went through the effort to download, install, and password protect this partition — all to avoid detection. Duggar, perhaps more than any other individual presented to this Court, was willing to go through exhaustive efforts to obtain CSAM without detection. Duggar’s criminal activity was also deliberate and precise. Government’s sentencing memorandum, filed on May 11 in the Western District of Arkansas Federal Court
In a section titled “Duggar’s History and Characteristics,” the document notes that Duggar has no criminal history, but that “the facts produced in pretrial hearings and at trial establish that he has previously molested four (4) minor females, either while they were sleeping (hence incapacitated) or too young to understand what Duggar was doing or defend themselves from his criminal behavior.” The prosecution notes that while he isn’t being sentenced for those, his past behavior “provides an alarming window into the extent of his sexual interest in children.”
“Duggar has a deep-seated, pervasive, and violent sexual interest in children,” the motion states. “And a willingness to act on that interest.”
The next several pages of the memo address “the need for the sentence to reflect the seriousness of the offense.” Also included is a quote from a parent of one of the girls depicted in the illegal material that Duggar downloaded, noting that her daughter “became an anxious and fretful shadow of her former self” after being sexually abused.
When asked what she most wanted to tell the judge, the girl told her mother, “Please, don’t let them pretend no one’s getting hurt!” U.S. Department of Justice releases statement, indictment after Duggar conviction
The filing then covers “the need for the sentence to afford adequate deterrence and protect the public from further crimes,” calling that requirement “particularly high here.”
They continue by calling Duggar “an offender who has a history of sexually abusing minors, who has not received any treatment or therapy for this conduct to speak of, who appears unlikely to ever seek out or meaningfully participate in treatment or therapy to address this conduct, and who continues to deny any responsibility for his past or present crimes.”
There is simply no indication that Duggar will ever take the steps necessary to change this pattern of behavior and address his predilection for minor females. Given these circumstances, this Court should be particularly mindful in crafting its sentence of the likelihood that Duggar reoffends upon his release from incarceration and what his reoffending conduct will entail.” Government’s sentencing memorandum, filed on May 11 in the Western District of Arkansas Federal Court
The memo alleges that the illegal material Duggar downloaded is “among the worst of the worst,” and said, “distressingly, the market for child pornography has continued to grow.” They add that there is no evidence that he presents a low risk to commit future crimes of this nature.
“It is imperative that the Court’s sentence be designed to ensure he does not reoffend,” the filing concludes, before requesting a sentence of 240 months to “ensure that outcome.”
The sentencing memorandum was signed by U.S. attorney David Fowlkes, assistant U.S. attorney Dustin Roberts, assistant U.S. attorney Carly Marshall and trial attorney William Clayman.

Oh my goddess, over 600 pictures (while the defense claims it was "only" 127 images, as if that makes it even better)? Plus, whose child is this, because this sounds like he also sexually abused (and took pictures of) yet another child he personally knew. If this POS only gets 5 years I'm gonna rage because he should be under the jail. I'm glad that they are considering the fact that he abused his sisters, made absolutely no effort to get help, went above and beyond to creep around monitoring software on his computer to download CP by making a partition on his HD to house this nasty crap, and apparently is STILL sexually abusing minors. 20 years. Please.
