While certainly not a mistake to the degree that they made with Meghan Kelly getting a highly touted job on one of the networks, the situation is similar in that the network misjudged her popularity. MK was promised a Sunday night program like 60 MINUTES plus a daily talk show-----and both failed. The network was able to dump her because of a comment she made about blackface. While problematic, she might have been OK except they needed to get rid of a very expensive mistake. Amy? Pretty close in not knowing how people felt about her.....mainly crass and not funny.

There's an audience for Amy's show, but it's not the Food Network audience. I'm surprised they don't run it on late night only. It really belongs on Netflix, or a cable channel with a different demo, like IFC or Sundance or maybe Comedy Central or FX.

Big Time Bake - that was pretty brutal to just send people home in the middle of what they were doing. Cristina's winning cake was gorgeous, though.

OMG, I would have been EVIL if i had finished one project, was working hard on the next and got told "Sorry, you have to go home." The guy who got sent home in the final found was PISSED.
This show is a remake of another show that was either on FN or the Cooking Channel. It had the same premise (a certain amount of time to complete all the deserts, 3 different types of deserts, sending people home who either ran out of time or their desserts weren't up to snuff, etc.) I also noticed that FN tends to use people they like more than once because Christina, Maeve, and Ray were all on different holiday themed baking championship shows (and in the case of Maeve actually won).

The only show I can think of is the one on Netflix where Candace Nelson is a judge along with Zumbo and they have three stages with eliminations at the end of stage 1 and 2 then a cake off between the last two.
Anyway, I haven't finished watching yet but I noticed Maeve and Ray right off. Ray also did a competition show with his partner around Halloween time...was it the gingerbread bake off?

You know what, Arielflies? I think you're right; it WAS on Netflix where I saw that show!
Ray did that show with Duff where the final cake had to have some sort of mechanical component to it...I forgot the name of it. He made it all the way to the end and his final cake was really fun! Maeve often shows up on the shorter, 4 episodes baking competition shows as well as when they have winners from the different Baking Championship shows on to compete in a special show. Darnell Ferguson and that other Black guy with the blue hair (Christian Gill, I looked him up, lol) show up on GGG a lot as well as different cooking competitions shows like the Thanksgiving one as well. GGG is especially guilty of this; Darnell, Christian, the lady who has the hot Thai food restaurant in LA, Melissa "The Sandwich Girl" McMillan and a host of others have made repeat appearances on his show; apparently if Guy likes you and your food (or feels like you went home too soon in some cases) he'll have you back on the show.
One thing I've definitely noticed is that if you're nice and do well on one show they will ask you back to do others. And likewise, if you turn out to be a s****y person they will have nothing else to do with you; I still remember that Food Network Star winner who got outed as being a racist and homophobe. They buried his show really quickly and never used him again.

Halloween Baking Championship will be premiering September 14th. They're changing the format a bit; Carla is the host instead of John, and she's going to be a judge too. Apparently they heard our prayers and Katie Lee isn't back. Unfortunately, instead of Lorraine we get someone named Stephanie Boswell. Who? Her bio on the site says she's a baking champion and not much else. Thankfully, Zac is still a judge. I'll miss John but love Carla so maybe he couldn't do the whole quarantine everyone had to do on the show. Looking forward to it!

Any reason to have more Carla is fine with me. I've been watching her on Crazy Delicious on Netflix and loving it.

I'm just wondering how she is going to be a host AND a judge but I guess we will see.

Maybe she won't stick around to kibitz, but leave the set and return for time checks and judging...or they have a contestant do time checks.

Duff and Valerie do host & judge duties for Kids Baking Championship -- maybe they will pattern it after that.

Get ready for Pumpkin Carving hosted by Allison Hannigan and Halloween Wars both starting in early to mid September. We sweat in September heat and they are all bundled up - such fun.

They really have some talent on Halloween Wars this year! So many of the creations were marvelous.
Halloween Baking is on tonight, with a 2 hour special! Also, FN is doing like a scavenger hunt; there is a pic of Carla in a different location on the set every week. If you find it, you can go to the site and report it and get the opportunity to win 5k each week!

Halloween Baking Championship was a lot of fun tonight. Besides Carla taking on double duty, they have set up the stage as a haunted house with rooms where each week the bakers will use for inspiration. Rather than a short first bake, they scattered knives around the kitchen and whoever found the most, got the advantage of extra time in a future bake. Fortunately, the man who had the knives escaped elimination. Heee Good Show with good twists.

I also really enjoyed that the other judges put on their costumes early and interacted with the contestants more. The new judge is great; she seems like she's having fun and meshes well with Carla and Zac. Unfortunately, Katie (who I do like on The Kitchen) always seemed a little stiff. I do have to admit that a lot of the bakes last night were rough as hell. Here's hoping they do better next week.
edit: Apparently Katie Lee just had a baby girl September 2, which would explain why she wouldn't want to quarantine for the show this year.
Also, Food Network's Christmas Cookie Challenge was filming in August and had to be cut short due to a crew member testing positive for COVID-19. Due to that, the season will be six episodes long instead of eight. I love that show so while this is disappointing, I would rather have 6 episodes than none.

Woohoo, it's baking season! Just caught up on Halloween Wars - good cast this year - and will watch Halloween Baking in a bit. I'm just glad they have something new to show with all the interruptions in filming this year.

Halloween Wars - I am so glad that team was eliminated, the one lady was really irritating. It's a shame they couldn't just get rid of her instead of the whole team. Halloween Baking Championship - who puts black garlic in desserts? Yuck. They always throw some hideous twist at them that doesn't go well with what half of them already started...

But, at least one of them used it to great results! This is the second show. lately, where I've seen black garlic. I hadn't heard of it before this.

True! But if I was in the middle of making cookies or a cake and you told me to incorporate flipping garlic, I'd just have to walk out of the kitchen.

It's actually good! It's savory, but has a sweet factor to it that lends easily to desserts. You have to have a light hand with it because it can easily overpower the rest of the flavors. I wanted to try a lot of the desserts last night because they looked really good. I'm glad the lady who did poorly last week did extremely well. On the other hand, it was really easy to see what team (and person) was on the outs; the minute Zac said something like "They gave us a bunch of things...that I'm confused by" I knew they would be on the bottom.
I'm liking Stephanie more and more every week. And I found Carla's picture last night!

Halloween Baking Championship - who puts black garlic in desserts? Yuck. They always throw some hideous twist at them that doesn't go well with what half of them already started... That lady made me so mad. Granted, the pumpkin carvers tend to be the foundation and critical element of a lot of the designs and do a lot of the heavy lifting but that team in particular put a LOT of weight on their carver (while skirting by with the cake and sugaring elements). That lady really pissed me off when she kept trying to rush the carver and copped an attitude when one of the "head" pumpkins didn't fit the base she made (even though it was clear what pumpkins he picked for what designs beforehand). To give him credit, he addressed her very calmly each time but it was like "Leave him alone and let him do his work!" She kept on bothering him even though he said politely that he needed to be left alone for 5 minutes so he could finish, and it was ridiculous. And of course, the pumpkin carving was the best thing about their design because the bodies, sugar work, and tasting element did not measure up to it.

Yes! She just kept on yapping about the scale not working and pestering that poor carver while he was trying to finish, instead of figuring out how to make what they had work. She was awful.
I'll take your word for the garlic in desserts - I love the stuff in savory dishes, but I wouldn't even know how to add it to a dessert. I'd end up with something that belonged on Nailed It!

I would start out with it in a savory dish; it has a certain something that adds a "Oomph" to every dish. Just don't use a lot because it can overpower most delicate dishes.

I loved a lot of the "devil doll" cakes this week. The top two were fantastic, and I totally agree with Stephanie when she said that the guy who did the red head didn't look like a doll (I thought it looked more like a sea creature, like a red creature of the Black Lagoon). It was a fantastic bit of work, but she was right. I also liked the voodoo doll. While I liked the blanket on the losing baker's doll the rest of it was kinda sloppy.
