Holiday Baking Championship:Not sure if the people watching live will have this tonight but there were two episodes available to watch this morning. I won't spoil but will say that unlike another baking show this one handled using the traditions of other cultures in a remarkably respectful way, without the usual stereotypes and tropes. It was fun (and educational) to watch the bakers utilize their own personalities into these bakes; some bakers used elements that were similar to those in their own culture, while other wholeheartedly embraced the challenge. I have to admit it was nice to watch something like this with joy as opposed to getting angry! I'm looking forward to it!

Damn, another one of my favs got the gate. They are dropping like flies!
I loved this week's episode with the Kwanzaa desserts utilizing corn and the various ways the bakers interpreted it. The main challenge was to put the baker's own spin on international holiday desserts like Filipino leche flan, Japanese Christmas cake and Puerto Rican guava rolls. I adore Japanese Christmas cake and was glad that the baker who picked it did a decent interpretation.

Also it wasn't "sweet" enough for their American taste buds. I thought that a shame because it looked so elegant.

Yah, Japanese Christmas cake is really nice. Moist (which he got right) with ripe strawberries and cream. He got dinged because he just recreated a Christmas cake; if he had used something like blueberries instead of the strawberries it would have been okay.

Crazy Hannukah sweaters using halvah and snowman croquembouches. Some of the croquembouches were really rough, lol. The last of my favs also left, but everyone still there is good so I don't mind watching to the end.

I had no idea that "redoing" store bought cakes was a thing. Most of them looked really nice, but those snowman croquembouches? Yikes. What a mess that challenge was...

Yes, those snowmen were ALL a mess. I think the judges really had to go with taste over look. I really wish they would drop this challenge of making them into a shape of something (like the boot in the Halloween BC). It doesn't work very well.
I didn't know about the redoing cake thing either.

I was surprised there was only one good-bye as there are five going into finale. I thought the reason for the three bakes was so that a second would leave. Next week will be interesting.

I also liked how the group surrounded the leaving baker and blocked the camera from view when it was obvious she was very upset. This is such a lovely group.

That was nice to see how the group hugged the latest leaving in the show. And the way Dru helped the girl with the delicate cake. Can't believe next week is tge finale

Was it just me or did the challah bread on the sweater resemble poop?

Not sure, I'm still stuck on how those croquembouches looked.

I hated that the last home baker standing didn't make it to the final four, but I'm happy Dru won. It was very gracious of him to give everyone the holiday destination they wanted to work with in the final bake. That said, his "mountain" did look like a rocket ship. Or something.

I really wanted him to make the final four. He was a delight. But like you, I was happy Dru won. He was so emotional about it. What a good guy and what a good group. The mountain looked like a giant egg to me, but I think his flavors is what got him the win.

I'm not sure if it's a Food Network show or a Cooking Channel show but you guys definitely need to check out Stab That Cake because it's the most fun I've had watching a show in a while. Jim Henson is one of the hosts, and the show is set in a grocery store similar to "Guy's Grocery Games." The premise is simple, three cake artists have to pick an item from an area in the store, recreate it as a cake, and then put the cake with the other items its mimicking. Two teams of "Stabbers" are then called in and their job is to look around the store and "stab" the items they believe to be cakes masquerading as the grocery items. There is both a time limit as well as the amount of stabs a team gets, and each time they guess correctly their team gets money! There's two rounds, and the cake artist that had their work detected the least gets 5k. It's a lot of fun to watch, especially when the Stabbers get really close to a cake but can't really *see* it because it looks so much like the grocery items surrounding them.

Tournament of Champions: It's amazing how this show literally became like the Little Engine that Could and went from a Food March Madness show to prestige Cooking TV that every chef worth their salt is clamoring for a seat at the table. Last year they had to turn chefs away; this year there's an eye-busting 32 contestants, more screen time, and more Randomizer. The roster includes everyone from Iron Chefs to Top Chef finalists and winners, and everyone in between. Some of the matchups is pissing me off because I want both parties to go forward (Stephanie Izzard and Madison Cowan, for example) but overall, this season is shaping up to be great. Sadly, Brooke Williamson decided to take the year off but the skill level is so high this season, it's a joy to watch.

Kids Baking Championship - Anyone been watching? This season has been much better than last year's Baby Baking season, where the cast was too young and there weren't enough standouts. This time, they cast a bunch of savvy kids who already run their own baking businesses, and the challenges are designed to focus not just on baking, but the business end as well. There's only a couple weeks left to the season, but it looks like it will be a really good finals.

I watched it a long time ago MFWalkoff and didn't really enjoy it. It was a bunch of oversmug children, the boys kept trying to talk over/push around the girls, and some of the children cried when their bakes didn't go right. I don't like to see any of that (or sad children) so I stopped watching.

I didn't realize Championship had started their new season! Thanks...I've been watching Battlebots latest and enjoying the smashing and flying. Not the correct thread, but I've also been watching Gordon Ramsey's Next Level Chef. Nyeshia and Richard Blaze are co-mentors and judges. I stream on Hulu and they ran the whole first season in one gulp after the Super Bowl. Needless to say its on Fox.

Yes, the new season just started Arielflies. This season will have more episodes this year to accommodate the expanded roster of competitors. Considering how this is their highest rated show on the Network it's nice to see them throwing money at it; the set this season is a far cry from the cheapness of the first season. Also, the fact that Iron Chefs Jose Garces and Stephanie Izzard are competing lends a certain prestige to the show. Below is last night's competitors. Winner is bolded. - Jose Garces vs Kelsey Barnard Clark - Graham Elliot vs Eric Adjepong- Lee Anne Wong vs Brian Malarkey (note: that...was unexpected) - Carlos Anthony vs Jet Tila

We watched some of season 2 of Guy's Tournament of Champions, and then the brackets for the new season. Do they give everyone testosterone injections before they compete? Can Guy's son not get a job on his own? How come the Randomizer never repeats anything?
Nope. Not for me.

Not sure how old the quote is, but Hunter himself said, "Throughout my high school career, I worked in a family owned restaurant, where I started as a dishwasher and worked my way up to a line chef position." In another interview, he talks about wanting to move out of his dad's shadow. Don't see much evidence of that.

He didn't hire him for something he had no aptitude in; unfairness would be if he took one of the allotted slots away from a well seasoned chef. Guy built his FN empire from nothing, and if he wants to give his son a leg up by actually working for him (as opposed to frittering away a trust fund) I'm for it.
