We went to a new restaurant that recently opened in our area. When we sat down, they had a sheet saying that not there might be menu items that are not available, which was fine because it basically was only the French Onion soup. What was interesting is that they mentioned their chef and the chef who is there temporarily for training staff was on Chopped and Beat Bobby Flay. I don't have the name right now but I am going to try to find it.
The food was quite good too. Nothing super fancy but good.

SBC - everybody mostly killed it this week, it was mediocre macarons that took out a baker this week. One of these days I'm going to try to make some of those at home.

SBC- Easter Show
My heart broke for the lady whose giant carrot started to fall because the cake that had to be next to it was a tad bit too big. It was a good thing that she had the advantage of getting help from one of the judges because Stephanie told her to put it in the walk in refrigerator. Her cake looked beautiful in the end, and apparently tasted delicious.
While everyone did well, the winner's cake was a masterpiece. I loved the bunny spinning sideways on the pole and the chicks doing their thing. It was a very well-deserved win.

What fun! There's always been a lull in programming on FN between Spring and Halloween and this fills it, especially since it seems like the Best Baker in America isn't coming back.

SBC - wow, Josh and Clement knocked it out of the park with that pie challenge. I wish we could taste things at home with how much the judges were going on about Clement's pie.

Yes, they were works of art. Was I the only one underwhelmed by Christian's decorative "Christmas" muffins? Christian certainly does come up with some wild ideas - he was so fixated on the Bloody Mary theme that I don't think he saw how Christmas-y they looked.

I wanted some of Clement's pie because that looked yummy. Sometimes FN will post contstant's recipes on their site and I hope they do it for that one because I would love to try it.
I don't mind Christian but sometimes he does veer off into "trying to hard you actually start to fail."

SBC - aww, poor Josh. He finally earned a token and got voted off in the same episode - for soggy feuilletine. I was shocked to see him and Clement in the bottom two, I pegged them both as finalists.

I was so scared for Clement, glad he was spared. He's the only one of my faves left; hoping he makes it to the finale!

Spring Baking Championship: Liked the Pre-Heat with the tulip desserts; all the interpetations were nice. I also liked the Main Heat with the Rosé infused desserts as well because it was fun. RTeally glad Clement stuck to his "Rosé and Pomegranate" combination because it turned out fabulous (along with Christian). The episode ends on a cliffhanger; can't wait until next week!

I really thought of the bottom two {Spoiler} Molly should have gone. Her dessert was just not up to the standard of the other three. Luke's wasn't the greatest but he brought the required flavor to it. Either they really want a woman in it or as I read elsewhere, the "bake off" was a done deal from the start.

They had a bake-off last season too. The one with Molly as the host and it was sprinkles or something and the French chef refused to do it and left the show. Personally I like Molly (I mean the baker this season). I don’t think plated desserts are the gold standard and hers looked fine. So I’m hoping she gets the victory in the bake-off.

I've been rewatching this season in anticipation of the season finale and really enjoyed seeing all of my favs again. I've also gotten a newfound appreciation for Christian because he really does try to give the judges something unique and fab. I'm enjoying seeing Jai, Jessica, Michelle, and Manja again. I had to laugh at Keem's cake with all of those dry raspberries all over it, and Josh's mirror glaze that was sticky as hell. All things considered, it really is a good season.
Another thing I've noticed is there's a lot of people this season who look related; Molly and Victoria especially, and Luke and Clement. There was a point where I was looking at Molly and Victoria and thought I was seeing double.

SBC - while I'm not mad at Luke winning, I really wanted Clement to win. He was (IMO) the most consistent all season, while Luke barely made it to the finale with those sketchy donuts. Also: judges, don't whine about cake-y donuts when they only have an hour to work. You can't get fried, decorated yeast donuts in an hour. Pre-heat: Clement's surprise proposal bake was really nice. Last minute Luke had plain chocolate boxes and Christian tried to make an isomalt bubble, which looked kind of bad. Final challenge was wedding cakes, all of which were a bit crooked. Clement did what his couple asked for: cherry blossoms and lace, which the judges thought didn't go together (but the couple wanted). That one big branch needed to go. Luke's was a cute orange Eiffel tower themed cake. And then Christian's couple talked about chocolate and water themes, so he made a vanilla boho themed cake. Of course he did. Oh well, congrats to Luke. At least there were no sprinkles this season.

Oh well, congrats to Luke. At least there were no sprinkles this season. I think that huge branch killed it. It was too much and a bit of finesse would have gotten him the win. It was just too clunky for a delicate cake. It looked like something you don't want on a cake. I was glad for Luke. I like the underdog all the time. His cake was gorgeous, elegant and obviously tasted delicious. Christian's cake was really brown and kind of blah. The couple wanted a chocolate cake yet he didn't bake one. And it was off. I knew it would be either Clement or Luke at that point. With all the editing, who really knows how people were doing? WE don't get to try the cakes. And judges comments can be skewed to have you go one way or another.

I have to admit Molly was a class act to the very end though. I'm still trying to figure out how Luke breezed by with those raggedy, oily donuts. While I'm not angry that Luke snuck in and took it all I was really, really sad for Christian and especially Clement who were more consistent this season. While all three cakes were beautiful in their own way I have to admit that Luke made a showstopper, and the Eiffel Tower Duff complained about both I and the couple absolutely loved. Felt so bad for Christian when Duff chewed for a while and then said something about the cake texture because sometimes you have no control over that. Overall, it was a very enjoyable season and much better than that Sprinkles aberration we had last year.

He really redeemed himself with the wedding cake because between the donuts and the boxes that was not it.

Guy just can't keep still. His newest is a competition show where contestants try to win a tv show like Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Two of the Grandmas from the American cooking show (the one on the same set as Making It) are on and it was fun to see them. Interesting 6 part series with a surprise type ending.

Summer Baking Championship: This was a lot of fun; I loved the challenge where they had to make a miniature flotation device out of a donut. I also liked the second challenge where they made cakes that had gelatin water features embedded in it. Carla, Duff, and Demaris all have a great rapport, and I'm looking forward to future episodes.
Also, did they air two episodes on Sunday, or was that a Discovery+ screwup?

Demaris was a bit to serious, I prefer her sunnier side.

Loved the focus on ice cream in the second episode. Some of those ice cream sandwiches looked absolutely delicious. I also liked how they had to take a traditional ice cream truck flavor to create a dessert in the Main Heat. Everyone seems to be really laid back on this show and having a good time, lol.
