Update: As of now, BBC One has suspended their regular programming. Yeah, this is beginning to look like she's already gone and they're getting everything together to make an official announcement. Wow.

Yeah, I think that is the case as well, I feel like 'London Bridge has already fallen' I saw a tweet from Jason Issacs (not like he has any real insider info or anything) that indicated as much too. I bet they are waiting for the family to arrive at Balmoral.

Yes, Queen Elizabeth has died. It was just announced on ABC. They said she died this afternoon.
She's been queen longer than many of us have been alive. It's hard to absorb this loss.

Queen Elizabeth II has died, according to Buckingham Palace, setting off an outpouring of grief in Britain for the 96-year-old monarch, who reigned for 70 years.
She died at Balmoral Castle, her beloved summer home in the Scottish Highlands. Many of her four children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren were at Balmoral or on their way there, including her son Prince Charles, the heir to the throne.
Buckingham Palace has just released the following statement: “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

I loved her colorful outfits, her sense of duty, and her cut-to-the-chase responses. On the other hand, there's absolutely nothing whatsoever about her successor that intrigues me.

Charles has been groomed for this job, since he was born. I'm quite fond of him. Just like most families, they've had their ups and downs. The boys have grown to like Camilla, me too. He's really not that different than his mother when it comes to love of country.

I feel so sad today and I'm not even an Anglophile. It's the end of an era and a remarkable, extraordinary reign. May Queen Elizabeth rest peacefully along with her loved ones who have gone before her.

Queen Elizabeth has been on the throne for 30% of the entire time that the United States of America has existed, which is amazing in itself.
What a life she's had! RIP, Queen Elizabeth.

Just found out, wow.
What history the Queen has seen and it feels a bit weird with all the Princess Diana documentaries the media has been airing just last week.
I was hoping the Queen would make it to 101 like the Queen Mum.
RIP.

I just found out, too! I turned Hulu on about 1/2 hour ago and saw her picture as the main image and said, “Oh, no!” She’s had an amazing life. May she Rest In Peace! That picture someone’s that FannyMare posted of her walking away with one of her corgis and Paddington Bear was so sweet, especially after that cute video of their tea party during her celebration earlier this summer.

On the subject of things that make me giggle when it comes to QE II, the story her old body gaurd would tell about the time she met up with 2 American tourists near Balmoral and had a good go at them since they had no idea who she was I loved her sense of humor.. umm hurmour.

That funeral was the whole package. To see true mourning and honor from those who loved him... to hear all of his titles read aloud and in that order, and to see all of those medals and know the hard work that they represent... and then for him to slip peacefully down into the floor where he will await for the Queen's passing to be reunited and moved... gosh, that was beautiful. It was not overdone, it was not underdone, it was just right. Quoting myself from April. That time has now arrived.

I feel so sad. She was such a lovely woman who seemed to cherish her 'job' and her country. There haven't been many (or even any) leaders like her, and she was really beloved by millions of people.

P. S. I think that the name they use as king or queen is usually one of the other names in the exceedingly long list of names that royals have.
For example, Queen Elisabeth’s father’s name was Albert Frederick Arthur George. He was known as Prince Albert from birth but became King George VI when his brother abdicated.
Wasn’t Queen Elizabeth II the first to break with that tradition? I think she said something about people already knowing her by that name, so why change it.
EDITED TO ADD: I have to admit I feel major cognitive dissonance every time I see Charles III in writing. I don’t really have anything against him (but not a fan either). I just never could really imagine him being king. It’s kind of hard imagining anyone else in that position. (I’m not really a royalist, so I’d be fine if they all went away, but I felt affection for the Queen for some reason. )

Most British monarchs have used their first names as their regnal names, the exceptions being Queen Victoria, Edward VII and George VI. Queen Elizabeth II didn’t break with tradition with her name. There was suggestion that Charles might not use that name because of the history of King Charles in UK - particularly Charles I (quarrelled with Parliament leading to the English Civil War and his execution) and to a lesser degree Charles II ( autocratic actions in the latter years of his rule and a noted philanderer).

Thanks for the info, ccl! I was kind of surprised that Charles wanted to use that name given its history. But since everyone has known him by that name for over seven decades and since he likely won't be king for all that long, why make people get used to using a different name for him. Keeping it makes sense.
