My Dad was a San Francisco Firefighter. So, of course I watch! My granddaughter just graduated college and aspires to be an EMT/Firefighter. I remember how angry my Dad and the others were when women were able to become Firefighters. I think if he were here now, he'd be very proud!

why was your dad angry about women becoming firefighters? I think it's very inspirational to see more & more women nowadays going into industries and doing certain jobs that were traditionally seen as "mens only jobs". And on the same token it's also good to see more men doing jobs that were traditionally seen as "women's jobs".
Anyway I really enjoyed the first season so I will watch season 2, but I have to admit that I am also disappointed about Connie Britton leaving the show, I loved her character Abby in S1, she was my favourite character and she played such an important role, so to see her gone will be sad, I will miss her a lot and I will miss her relationship with Buck, I hope she will still come back next season for just a guest appearance...

This was 50 years go and no women were hired as firefighters anywhere. The men back then thought that women were too weak to do the heavy work. Firefighters have to depend on each other to drag them out if there is an emergency or injury. They didn't trust mere women to be able to do that. It's just another one of those glass ceilings women have been breaking through for the last century, like voting, holding office, etc.
I read that Connie Britton only signed on for one season as a big name to kick the series off. She didn't intend to sign on for more.

I knew Connie Britton originally only signed on for 1 season, but a while ago the showrunner said that he was trying to negotiate a new contract with her so she could return for season 2...but I guess those negotiations have since fell through and he failed to persuade her to renew her contract I hope she would still be able to return in the future for just a guest appearance at least.

Does JLH have a new face, I barely recognised her.

Not sure what work she’s had done, but it looks like she’s gained a good bit of weight. That can definitely change your face. Not impressed with her so far. Definitely a step (or twenty) down from Connie Britton. Athena and Bobby = I’m glad I had the show in my DVR because it aired at a really weird time - like 5pm or something. I wonder if they’ll rerun the premiere ahead of the next episode.

I know it's airing tonight, I'm just wondering how many people missed the premiere and if they'll air it again tonight before the next episode. Mine can't have been the only market where it aired at a weird time.

Yeah Henie, Kat, and Paisley made it out of the building! Interesting that the 911 operator sent that couple to the emergency personnel instead of vice versa. Loved Athena & Bobby at her house after everyone was home safe. “I already set a place at the table for you.” 🙂

Athena and Bobby are official now...I love those two. The first few episodes this season have been really good...it helps that the cast is so talented. I'm still not thrilled about JLH (I want Connie back!), but I can suffer through her scenes. That new cute firefighter that they added helps.

Has anyone else noticed how on this show only the bad people die? I noticed it S1 and it's still happening. Like in the hotel, the pervy bathrobe boss died as did the mean older lady (Paisley's owner). But the young female employee makes it, the young girl makes it, the dog makes it... the fact that they do this makes the show easier to watch for sure. And a firefighter not on the regular cast dies also to underscore the danger the main characters face on the job. I'm just sayin'! :-)

even though I miss Connie/Abby a lot, but I'm really enjoying this new season and I actually like the new characters, especially Eddie played by Ryan Guzman, I love watching the relationship between him and his son, especially in the most recent ep. JLH's character is not bad either, I initially wasn't too keen about her joining the show and replacing Connie/Abby, but she's slowly growing on me.
I'm also really enjoying this new Athena & Bobby romance, I think they're really good for each other and I'm glad everyone is so supportive of their relationship. I still miss seeing Buck & Abby together though, I really loved them together as a couple last season and I'm happy that Buck is still waiting for her and has been living in her apartment, hopefully this means that Abby will return in the future.

I can just picture Buck match-making them together...I think they'd make a good couple, after everything JLH's character has been through, being the victim of domestic violence, she deserves to be happy with a good guy, and Eddie is a good man and a father.

Agree 100%! When Buck brought Eddie to Abby's apartment to "meet someone" I was expecting him to want to introduce his sister to Eddie! But instead it was the nurse who cared for Abby's mom...to help with Eddie's son. I'm loving the Eddie character and his sweet relationship with his son.

How long before JLH's character and Yummy Eddie get together? Should we take bets? :-) Is that actor married? Will his marriage last once he and JLH are an onscreen couple? There have been rumors for a while that her marriage is dunzo and she has a history of hooking up with her co-stars (including her current husband). Could this guy be her next victim?
I'm enjoying the new season and happy that JLH's character hasn't been made the STAR of the show. She's okay, but I like the rest of the cast more and enjoy the show as an ensemble drama.

Yes, from the looks of Ryan A Guzman's instagram account he is very happily taken! Not sure if I can post a link but here it isRyan Guzman's instagram
I really hope she doesn't make a move on him. Or if she does she gets rebuffed! That's not cool.

oh come on guys, they're all actors, they're all professionals, I would think JLH would know better than to make a move on a male co-star who is already taken, especially considering she is a married woman herself, and she seems very happy in her marriage at the moment, it wasn't too long ago that their second son was born.

JLH has a history of hooking up with co-workers. She's one of those people who seems to use the workplace as a dating pool. I wouldn't assume her marriage is healthy. There have been rumors of trouble for a while - even before baby #2. Yes, they're professional actors. They're paid to act. That doesn't mean they all act honorably on-set (or off-set), as we know.
Glad that RG is happily married. Hope he stays that way!

of course dating co-stars is very common, but would JLH date a co-worker who is already seeing someone else while she herself is a married woman? It's one thing to date a single co-worker, but it's another thing to have an affair with a co-worker who is already taken...I don't think JLH would be that kind of person, to get romantically involved with a male co-star who is not single, she's not Angelina Jolie, who has a reputation for stealing other women's husbands. While we don't know these actors personally, but I have never heard any rumors about JLH having affairs with male co-stars who are not single.

another great ep this week, I was initially hoping that Maddie would get together with Eddie, but now I'm definitely liking her with Chimney, they both deserve to be happy, and I think they would make a really good couple together That scene at the beauty pageant for little kids was hilarious, "did these beauty queens shrink or are we suddenly giants?" LOL oh Buck I also love the ending when Bobby was included in the family photo with Athena and her family, Bobby has suffered the guilt of losing his own family long enough and it's time he moved on and be happy again, and now he is a part of Athena's family too. But argh that female reporter really annoyed me in this ep, poor Buck I'm still hoping for Connie/Abby to return in the future.

I definitely didn't want Maddie paired off with Eddie. That seems too obvious. I like that she's into Chimney. When her ex shows up - and you KNOW that's going to happen - I hope Chimney doesn't get hurt. Physically, I mean. No, JLH is no Connie Britton, but she's likely never coming back. At least they're dressing Maddie better than they dressed Abby. God, deliver me from all those frumpy clothes and those huge glasses! I'm still enjoying the show. As much as I love CB, the show was never JUST her.

I definitely think Maddie's abusive ex is going to appear sooner or later, but I'm not too worried because I'm sure Athena will be able to handle him and hopefully throw his sorry ass in jail.
I definitely think the wardrobe department is dressing Maddie better than they ever did with Abby, I still like Abby more than Maddie, but I didn't like most of the awful clothes they had Abby wear in S1. And yes I agree that as much as I love Connie/Abby, this show never revolved around just her, it's really more of an ensemble cast and I love many if not all of the main characters. So while I am sad that Abby/Connie left and it seems like she might never return, but I'm still watching the show for the other characters that I love.
