Poor Morse. First we see him losing control of "the drink", as Thursday would say...."The drink's a good servant, but a poor master." Then we see Joan seeking comfort in the arms of DS Strange, and now he needs to go to rehab (Thursday: "You're young. You're smart. Break the habit before it breaks you.")
Series creator Russell Lewis, is fond of writing subtle Easter eggs into "Endeavour"; one that acknowledges the drama's curtain call is nearly upon us comes at the episode's end when Morse casually takes in the snow-crusted landscape and remarks, "Beginning to thaw." A classic nod to actor John Thaw, as it is to the ending of the Endeavour prequel, and the beginning of Inspector Morse Series, (played by John Thaw d.2002).

New Season of Grantchester 9/8c begins tonight!!!!! I'm so glad the show is back! I'll admit I got a little giddy when Alan Cumming said, "Grantchester is back."
Nice to have Charlotte Richie back on Masterpiece. I still miss her on Call the Midwife.

I miss her terribly on Call the Midwife, Barbara has been a favorite character along with Chummy! Now we have the bouncy blonde version! I've heard she will be back again next season too. Is that a spoiler? It is in all of the online articles and PBS even mentioned it in one of their cast interviews.

The only episode of CTM that I've never watched is the one where Barbara died. I just couldn't handle it. I thought Sister Evangelina's death was bad The only one that's going to be worse is when Sister Monica Joan finally dies (not a spoiler - she's just old). I'm sure they had their reasons for killing Barbara - maybe Charlotte wanted to leave - but it was still brutal AND we lost Tom too.

Yes, she chose to leave. I don’t know how they would have really kept Tom on after that but it was a shame for him to go as well, not sure if he wanted to or not.

Actually, "Tom" wanted to go also. So, it was perfect for them. (I think Trixie actress (Helen George) may already have been pregnant with their first daughter Wren? But, he wanted to leave the show also.)
Knowing beforehand that Barbara was going to leave was helpful for me watching, but, I still cried all the way through it. The acting by every member was exceptional, the goodbye's each person gave were done so beautifully....I bawled a lot. But, I loved it, at the same time. It allowed me to have closure over her leaving the show. I actually re-watched that episode three times. I know, crazy....but, it helped me accept her leaving. Best acting!!!!
But, I understand what you mean completely. There have been other shows that I knew were going to be hard to watch, and I skipped the episode.

Helen and Jack Ashton had another baby girl in November. Her name is Lark. I thought she looked pregnant last season, but there was a moment when they showed her sitting down from the back and I went "YEP, definitely pregnant!" I feel the same way about The Walking Dead - love it, seen every episode....with the exception of the scenes where Glenn and Abraham die. I just can't watch. At least with that one, I would ffwd through. With the episode of CTM when Barbara died, I couldn't watch ANY of it.

I could tell she was pregnant, they had her behind furniture an awful lot!

Whoo hoo! I’m so happy they are doing a season2 and look forward to reviewing Annika season 1 in October. From Masterpiece Newsletter:
“Maybe you've already streamed Annika Season 1 with PBS Passport, or are looking forward to its broadcast premiere on MASTERPIECE this fall. Good news, mystery fans, more Annika is in the works. Nicola Walker, Jamie Sives and the cast are back on set for Season 2 filming now.”

I thought it was a bit sudden getting married at the end of Grantchester, but, I'm glad to have Charlotte Richie on the series. I think she may still be doing UK version of Ghosts, which inspired the US version. So, I feel lucky to be able to watch her as a regular now on Grantchester . Happy too, that all is well with Mrs C again, Leonard and Geordie's Family. Such a Great, lovable cast.

For those who do not have the PBS Newsletter, this is a fun peak behind the scenes of Grantchester, showing cast enthusiasm for filming season 7. They just began production of Season 8 and Tom Brittany just directed an episode.

I’m very much looking forward to Annika Season 1 on Masterpiece. Did anyone watch the final season of The Split? Not sure where to put this, as I think it aired on the BBC channel. Thankfully my DVR found it there and recorded the final season. It was fantastic! Such good actors and good storyline.

I'm really enjoying Guilt. Sarah Vickers is a nice edition to the cast. I'm actually rooting for Max and Kenny.

Nicola Walker is one of my favorite actresses. I have watched her in so many great series, that I forget she isn't a personal friend. Great work in every series that she does. Last Tango in Halifax, The Split, Unforgotten, etc. But, I really enjoyed Annika! At the end of the The Split, Nicola/Hannah looks right at the audience, sharing a knowing look (acknowledging that all is well), with us. That feeling, that she is talking to you personally, is prevalent throughout Annika, because she is...... and it takes you right into the show. I look forward to season 2!
