I normally watch and enjoy Hotel Portofino on Masterpiece. I watched tonight’s episode and more, and I’m very disappointed in the dark direction this series is going in. I understand it was a challenging time to live in Italy, dictatorship and dirty police controlling everything. But this season is more than that and it’s very disappointing.
If there is a season 4, I hope that PBS will not opt to carry it. (Yes, it’s that bad- I jumped forward to see if the last episode was worth sticking it out for and well…I don’t recommend it. )

Moonflower Murders is Coming soon. It is the sequel to Magpie Murders. The devilishly delightful Moonflower Murders picks up where literary whodunit Magpie Murders left off, and it’s coming to MASTERPIECE this fall! Watch the trailer and find out about the cast, plot, episodes, and when the Anthony Horowitz-penned mystery-within-a-mystery premieres. The trailer is toward the in of the article, so scroll down to watch.
Moonflower Murders premieres September 15 at 9pm ET on MASTERPIECE on PBS

Looks interesting. I'll have to stream The Magpie Murders to prepare. That's what I was wondering. Will I be lost because I haven't seen Magpie Murders? I don't subscribe to any streaming service for PBS. I'm assuming this new series is on a regular PBS TV channel.

Yes, the sequel will be on regular PBS starting Sept 15th. But, you can check you local PBS schedule. We have the Iowa State Fair featured now, but next week we will have a rebroadcast of Magpie Murders on Sundays. Also, just before a new season starts, often times local PBS will allow anyone to watch the previous season. Meaning you could check next week on your local PBS schedule to see if it's available to stream.

I don't subscribe to any streaming service for PBS. I'm assuming this new series is on a regular PBS TV channel. Sunday August 18th, the Magpie Murders will start airing in New York on the PBS station at 9:00 pm and a second episode at 10pm. I would expect each Sunday two more episodes will air of the Magpie Murders Series taking us up to the new season on the 15th.
I wouldn't say you "need" to watch, but they are based on books, so the characters are already well known to viewers that watched Magpie Murders.

If you have a smart tv, Fire tv, or Roku you can download the pbs app for it. Stream episodes on that too.

To watch it on PBS streaming on Roku, etc, you have to have a paid Passport subscription. I got mine by doing a $5 monthly donation to my local station.

To watch it on PBS streaming on Roku, etc, you have to have a paid Passport subscription. I got mine by doing a $5 monthly donation to my local station. Usually that is the case, but after a show airs, they make recently aired episodes available for three weeks to anyone (with passport you can watch beyond the 3 weeks). Before a new season airs they sometimes allow episodes from a prior season to be viewed. Not all, but some Masterpiece episodes, it might depend on popularity which shows they allow. My sister lives in Detroit and does not have Passport, but, she told me that she has been watching Season 1 Magpie Murders on her PBS app. But, they have started reairing Magpie Murders season 1 on local PBS TV stations across the country on Sundays, in preparation for Moonflower Murders.

Notice the christening photo first, to see all the characters that are returning. One bright face in particular is sporting a 'stache.

Just announced by Masterpiece today: New Adaptation of Maigret Coming to MASTERPIECE. "Jules Maigret will be played by Benjamin Wainwright (Belgravia: The Next Chapter, Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim), and Stefanie Martini (The Gold, Last Kingdom, Emerald City) stars as Madame Louise Maigret. Blake Harrison (World on Fire, I Hate Suzie Too), Reda Elazouar (Sex Education, Pirates), Kerrie Hayes (The Responder, Criminal Record), Shaniqua Okwok (The Flatshare, It’s a Sin) and Rob Kazinsky (Star Trek: Section 31, Eastenders) make up the “Les Maigrets,” Maigret’s loyal team of detectives, with Nathalie Armin (Showtrial S2, Juice) set to play Prosecutor Mathilde Kernavel.
Patrick Harbinson’s adaptation reframes Maigret as an unconventional young detective with something to prove the Police Judiciaire, relentless in his investigations, chasing and a matchless knowledge of Paris and its inhabitants. Faithfully and lovingly married to Madame Maigret, Maigret heads the elite police unit known as La Crim, responsible for investigating all serious crime in and around Paris.
The Jules Maigret series is the second best-selling detective series ever, behind only Sherlock Holmes. Playground licensed from Georges Simenon Limited the English speaking rights to the entirety of the series, consisting of 75 novels and 28 short stories. Simenon’s entirely singular body of work, which includes a wider library of novels, reportages, photographs and other nonfiction, is among the most compelling in the global canon.
(I have to say, I always enjoyed the soft spoken Rowan Atkinson's performance in a previous Maigret (2019) production . Hoping this new presentation will be equally enjoyable.)
