Karen, you HAVE to see ELF. It's one of my favorites and I'm not even a Christmas fan. It's one of the movies I watch when it's on.

I know beerbelly .... its so weird or odd that I have yet to see it. My son actually had it on on Christmas day in his den but with all the hustle and bustle of the day .... I saw only bits and pieces of it.

Venom. I had heard poor reviews on it but I liked it. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad.

In addition to Vice, my holiday movie viewing included --
Creed 2 - I enjoyed it, but wasn't totally wowed by it. It was just another Rocky related movie in my book.
Aquaman - a fun movie, but I thought it lasted a little too long. Had they cut one of the fight scenes, I don't think anything would have been lost.
The Favourite - I was hesitant to see this at first, but changed my mind based on such high Rotten Tomatoes review scores. I should have given more weight to the viewer ratings on Rotten Tomatoes! It was fun as I was watching it, but I never really found the point of telling the story. It wasn't satirical enough to be a historical satire, but wasn't serious enough to be a historic look at Queen Anne. It was like they were just going for shock value, which was amusing at times, but when it finally ended I was wondering what i'd just at through ... and why.
Eighth Grade - Can't say I loved it, nor that it will stay with me. But it was well done, well acted, and deserving of the accolades it got for a small little movie to get the buzz it did.
Daddy's Home 2 - entertaining way to pass a couple of hours.

We watched "The Bird Box" last night on Netflix. Meh.

I have a feeling Bird Box is one of those movies that will be killed by it's own hype. Those who watched it early on will likely rave about it and have fond memories of how great it was. Those who watch it from about January 2 forward after there was so much buzz about it being amazing will be more likely to watch and wonder "is that it?" A pretty good movie that becomes a big letdown when expectations are built up too big.

Watched Dumplin last night on Netflix. Really liked it. Not a Jennifer Aniston fan (Usually every movie I've watched that she been in I hate her character) but she wasn't terrible in this.
I cannot bring myself to watch Bird Box and I love Sandra Bullock but nothing about this is appealing to me. That said My boyfriend has watched Bird Box as he is also a Sandra Bullock fan and he said it was really good. He's also not a big movie person in general. so I don't know.

Has anyone seen Welcome to Marwen? I heard it bombed. We were out of the country when it was first released, and have also heard that it bombed. Nevertheless, we liked the previews and are going to try to see it next week while it's still available at the movies.

I watched 'Blockers' last night. I loved it! It's about 3 parents who find out their daughters want to loose their virginity on prom night and try and stop them. It sounds like a horrible premise, but it was very well done. It really shows female sexuality in a very smart way, plus I thought it was very funny. John Cena is in it as a very emotional dad and he is so funny in it. It really showed teenagers in a great light.

It was not some dumb teen sex comedy.
I watched Bad Times at the El Royal. Not what I thought it was going to be. It was a bit overlong and dragged in spots but I really enjoyed it. There were lots of twists and turns. And Chris Hemsworth was so evil and sick! I quickly forgot my beloved Thor. And Dakota Johnson can act!

No, it wasn't and they really made both the teens and the parents relatable and likable. I loved it.

I've heard good things about the blockers movie. It sounds better than the crappy movies that Cena has been in with Amy Schumar.

Yesterday I watched Mildred Pierce. It's one of those multi-nominated Oscar movies from 1945, starring Joan Crawford. She won the Best Actress Oscar for it. I'd heard of it & that it was good, but never seen it. Then, yesterday I noticed it was playing on the Movies! channel. It was quite good, and a great fit for Joan Crawford. One of those tough resilient woman kind of movies.

Second Act with JLO. I actually loved it! I had low expectations for some reason but I thought it was cute, funny, and entertaining!

Our local critic panned it, but I think everyone has their own taste. I would like to see it. It looks cute. Sometimes I think expecting not too much helps just like if something is overhyped you feel a bit disappointed.

I usually like those Jennifer Lopez light comedies. I know they're not critic approved, but I think they're fun.

I found a documentary about David Cassidy the other day. It was so sad. I do recommend it, though it had its flaws. It focused only the people he performed with, not his family. I think his family would have provided a more realistic assessment of his health issues. '

Oh! I saw Chappaquiddick over the holiday. Boy did that one haunt me. I could only hope that the events relayed in the movie did not actually happen like they did. I hope Ted Kennedy was not the egotistical, narcissist portrayed in the movie.

I watched the deer hunter. I'm surprised that this won best picture. It was way too long and didn't get that interesting imo.

I went over the weekend to see On The Basis of Sex. I didn't go in with high expectations, feeling that a lot of the movies thunder was lost when the RBG documentary came out earlier this year. But it was fantastic! They did a great job of portraying the realities that Ruth Bader Ginsburg was up against at the start of her career, and the reasons she was prompted to fight to change those things. The most touching part to me was the large number of women over 60 who were packing the theater when I saw it. There was definitely a tone of "we remember" and it was special to be a part of that.
