Earlier this week I went to see the Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. I am a HUGE Kevin Smith fan (If I had to pick, Dogma would be my fave) so this was like a mini reunion of a lot of past characters with lots of pop culture references...I loved it!

I went to a film festival to see The New Bauhaus, which is about the Bauhaus teacher and designer Moholy-Nagy's life. Afterwards there was a Q&A with the director and Moholy-Nagy's daughter (who is in charge of his estate). I'm a huge fan of his work and really enjoyed it.

I watched The Avengers last night. The first one. I was told there have been a few. I've never seen it before.
I'm normally not a fan of Superhero movies. To me they seem about violence & destruction & nothing more.
I didn't want to watch this, but it was pretty much dumped on me. Yes, it was mostly violence & destruction, but it wasn't a bad movie. I actually kind of enjoyed it. I liked the characters & the way they were introduced & explained in the movie. I kind of knew who they were, but not much else about them. By the end I knew a lot.
This is a big part of what makes a movie good or not, whether I like the characters, and if the storyline is any good at all. This one passed on both accounts.
However, it was still a Superhero movie & didn't change my over all opinion of them.

I went looking in Amazon for Dogma either in dvd or digital and it is wildly expensive...$42+ for the dvd.
Now, it has been pulled from Netflix DVD with a "put in save" notice. I last watched it on this service in 2004. I really liked it then and think I would like to see it again.

I didn't know finding Dogma was difficult (I have the extended cut on DVD - bought it when it was released) until your post. This is an older article, but it explains why it's not available streaming:
Any time some group comes out really hard against a movie like that, it makes me want to see it that much more. Maybe I'll put out my DVD and watch it! It's definitely my favorite Kevin Smith movie.

Interesting. I have it on VHS and was looking to upgrade it with a DVD. It's a great movie and I'm sad that "dogma" has prevented this movie from being released on Blue Ray.

The Ring remake. It was every bit as scary as it was when it was first released. I wish that the American version didn't give away the girl coming out of the well in its trailer because that was a major plot point that would have been thrilling to experience in the theater. The original Japanese version omitted that from their trailers and as a result was a lot more scary to the audience.

Fatso, starring Dom Deluise. Dom's family is worried about his health after relatives start passing away because of weight problems. A mixture of sad and funny.

I went to see Harriet today. It was fantastic! I'm looking forward to this one. The TV previews look really good. So far not in our theaters, but I'm glad you recommended it. I'll keep watching for it.

The Cat and the Moon - While his mother is in rehab, a teenager travels to New York to stay with a family friend. Coming of age story with some deep emotional layers that caught me off guard and made up for everything else the film was lacking. Good Boys - Three 6th grade boys ditch school and embark on a journey while carrying drugs, being hunted by girls, and trying to make their way to a party. Seth Rogen produced it so its basically a kid version of his films so expect raunchy humor. Jacob Tremblay is adorable and Keith L. Williams stole the show. Countdown - Thriller/horror about people downloading an app that predicts exactly when a person is going to die. Some get 60 years some only have a few days. I had very low expectations but I actually liked it. It’s not scary but has a good set of good timed jump scares if that makes sense.

I saw Parasite, the new movie by director Bong Joon-Ho (Snowpiercer). This is, hands down, the BEST movie I've seen in years. The movie begins with a poor, con-arty family called the Kims who through devious ways all get employed by a extremely rich but slightly naiive family called The Parks. The Kims get involved with the Park's family dynamic in interesting ways that are agreeable to both parties until half-way through the film a monkey wrench is thrown into the whole affair which then sends the viewer on a wild ride until the explosive ending. I was not expecting any of the events that unfolded and at certain points my mouth was actually hanging open likw "WHUT?!" If you like foreign films this is a not-miss; if it's in your area GO SEE IT. You will not be disappointed.

THE TOWN ..........it just happened to be on SHO with no fees. www.imdb.com/title/tt0840361/I had forgotten what a great cast this movie has; John Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Blake Lively. Affleck does an amazing job with his acting in this movie. Being from Boston I cannot stand when a movie is made based on or in Boston and the actors are from everywhere else and they try to attempt the accent. BUT Jeremy Renner lived with a Boston family for 3 months to make certain he sounded like he was from CharlesTOWN!!! Blake Lively, she did amazing too with the accent.

I went to see Harriet today. It was fantastic! I just saw it tonight. It was one of those movies where at the end, everyone in the theater stood up and clapped. It was very moving with many strong performances.

First time seeing Hocus Pocus. If you haven't seen it before and you like bad SyFy channel type movies, you might enjoy this.

Did anyone see The Good Liar? Not yet. I've been waiting, because I love Helen Mirren, but it's not playing in our area( yet)

The Peanut Butter Falcon - After running away from a residential nursing home to pursue his dream of becoming a pro wrestler, a man who has Down syndrome befriends an outlaw who becomes his coach and ally. It's charming, it's funny, gives you all the feels, the setting is perfect, great cast. Shia LaBeouf impresses me again. Watch this movie.

Ma - Octavia Spencer plays a good weirdo, but the movie itself was pretty predictable.
Greta - Chloë Grace Moretz returns a "lost" handbag to someone and then everything goes downhill. Decent enough, could have been a bit better.
Cold Pursuit - I thought it was going to be another Liam Neeson revenge ass-kicker, but it was kind of a parody of that genre of film. He still takes the bad guys out, but it was more Fargo-like dark comedy than anything. I liked it.

Luther, season 5( and probably the last one) It was good, not as good as season 4. Some parts, it looked like Idris dialed it in, but he's such a lovely man, I didn't care. {Spoiler} Wonderful to have Alice back.
