I grew up watching the original. And I watched it in reruns. I watched the reboot and it was great. I didn't think it was too political or one sided. If anything it showed the folly of Rosanne's ways and beliefs. They voted one way and life really didn't get much better for them. And it ended up with potential to hurt people she cares about- grandchildren, neighbors, etc...I thought the new show was really balanced. I didn't care much for Rosanne Barr or the character and I'm glad she's off the show. She took away jobs for all these people so I'm glad they will at least have one more season, and I'll watch it. RB needs to get help and follow through with it AND she needs to have someone manage her social media, so that they stop her before she tweets stupid things that further damage her image. Before, you had to wait for edited interviews to come out or at least there was some time separation before her deeds and words hit the media. Now she can tweet instantly with no barrier .......it's a bad combination for some personalities.

They tackled her addiction to opioids, maybe that's a way to write her out, I agree, it wasn't too political..

In the re-boot, Didn't Roseanne have the knee operation surgery? She could have developed an infection, and have died. Anyway, I am betting they will kill off her character.
I thought the reboot show was funny. I enjoy sitcoms, many start off good, and then after awhile become stupid, so I stop watching. I am still enjoying Young Sheldon, although no longer enjoy grown up Sheldon on BBT. Nowadays, the sitcoms produced are silly and not geared for adults.
I enjoyed this reboot from the beginning, thought the politics were minimal (mostly just first episode I think?); and am looking forward to the spin-off "The Connors".

I think MissScarlet was referring to the fact that Roseanne gave up her ownership in the show so that those people would not lose their jobs and the show could continue. That's a totally separate issue from her and everyone else initially losing their jobs when the show was cancelled. I agree with MissScarlet that Roseanne's doing what was necessary in order to allow others to continue on with the show was the decent thing to do, and I'm glad that people won't be losing their jobs, after all. Saying that she did a good thing by letting go of her ownership in the show doesn't mean that Roseanne's initial behavior and all of the bad behavior afterwards is OK. I think most people agree that was horrid. I did not get "letting go of her ownership" from MS saying "I am glad RB stepped away or down". If that is what MS meant then I wish she had worded it that way. To me I read it as though MS did not realize RB was fired and that RB was doing a "decent thing" by leaving the show. ALSO, no one has been working all.this.time on the show. No work No pay. Its been a month. So far. Whoops. Step away from the computer for a while & everything you say goes haywire. Miss Griss was right in her interpretation of my original post. But I guess I could've been more specific in my wording. I assumed that everyone with a TV or Internet knew that Roseanne was fired, canned, kicked out, booted, justifiably disgraced, etc. from the show. Against her will, not with her co-operation. But I guess some people who didn't care at all about the show or Roseanne in general, may have ignored any mention of her in the media. I've done that myself with shows I don't watch. I know nothing whatsoever about Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead or the actors in the shows. I don't watch them & so I don't care. To be more specific, what I meant by Roseanne "stepped away or down" was her agreeing to have no financial, directorial, or any type of ownership attachment in the new reboot-reboot, in order to save the jobs of the cast & crew, and to save the reboot-reboot. She had an ownership stake in not only her name & character, but in the other characters & the show, and in their creation. That translated to money & credits. That's what she stepped away from. Now she doesn't, but she had to agree to that for them to move forward. I'm not delusional about how Roseanne left, I just didn't word it clear enough. Sorry 'bout that Chief (old sitcom reference).

www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/judd-apatow-believes-that-roseanne-is-crying-out-for-help/ar-AAz48cF?ocid=spartanntp© Provided by CBS Interactive Inc. Director Judd Apatow and Roseanne Barr go back professionally 20 years. The famed film director once helped out writing and producing one of her comedy specials back in the '90s. They've remained friendly over the years, so much so that she was interviewed by the "40-Year-Old Virgin" director for his recent book, "Sick in the Head," featuring in-depth interviews of popular comedians. Apatow hasn't talked to Roseanne in a while, and has since been blocked by her on Twitter, however he's still attempting to understand why his "old friend" regularly fires off racist rants online—eventually leading to ABC cancelling the hit "Roseanne" reboot. Apatow points out that the main possible reason could be her mental state. "I think you have a person who's in a moment of success and maybe that's uncomfortable for her, and whatever urges she has to be rebellious have overtaken her in some way," he told Vanity Fair in a new interview. "I haven't spoken to her recently to know where her head's at generally, but I see it more as someone who's crying out for help than someone who's a hateful person … for the most part, I hope she's okay and I feel bad for people who got hurt in that. Everyone who worked with her, it's tragic." When asked if ABC made the right decision in cancelling the "Roseanne" reboot, the "Knocked Up" director didn't have an answer, opting rather to look further into why it's a mental health issue. "She's not really built to be on top of that pyramid, in charge of a lot of people, responsible for them, because she has her own struggles. I've never heard her say anything that was racist in decades," Apatow continued. "So I don't know where that comes from. It's as mysterious to me as anybody else. But there's a lot of people who get pulled into these worlds of conspiracies and I really don't understand it because all she was was a proponent of women … the only way I can process it is, in some way, Roseanne is in some sort of altered state of her mind. And I just hope that she finds her way back to the values that were really important to her when I first met her."

Quotes from her long time friend that she worked with for over 20 years. How would all the unforgiving people who have bashed her online so much feel if she committed suicide? Some of her friends have turned their backs on her because they do not want to be bashed or have their careers ruined for standing up for her. Shame on them! Where is understanding? Where is forgiveness? Is it worse to make racist comments than the things that have been said about her? How is hate better than racism?
Forgive....have some compassion.

If you all remember, we shut down the political thread at old FoRT and are NOT reviving it at new FoRT. This show, like The View, can result in knee-jerk political opinions. What we need to remember here is that it is a PIECE OF FICTION with actual writers. Either you enjoy their writing or you turn to another show you do enjoy. There is no reason to call out the writers or, in particular, other posters who enjoy the show as written.
Please remember to be courteous.

No problemo for me! I have long been at another site for their Big Brother coverage every summer to supplement my BB time here. When the 'Current Events" forum shut down here I was able to go to my 'second site' to discuss current events, including politics there. Also to discuss other current events having nothing to do with politics that can't be discussed on this site unless it has to do with Celebrities or TV shows. But there I can talk about weather, school shootings, whatever I'd considered to be a 'current event'. Some sites can do it, other sites can't.

This is a reality TV site. It can't be all things to all people. If it's too confining for anyone to use this site for its intended purpose, there's a whole internet out there to use as a soapbox, diary, or whatever else one needs to express. Nobody is being held here against their will. All we ask is for people to treat each other with respect, which surprisingly can be a tall order for some while using the internet.

I'm looking forward to the spinoff, too, and I'm not making a penny! LOL. Seriously, I want to see how they write Roseanne out. One of the TV reports said they do not want her character "looming in the background" so she will probably have to be killed off. I plan to watch it at least a few times if not more to see how it goes. Sitcoms are good for my mental state if they're funny! Too much sadness and meanness in the world.

I'm pretty hopeful. I think this is a good outcome and compromise for the fans (or just me. Because I'm the only fan that matters ) I hope the writers really knock it out of the park and it becomes its own beast.

Saw Jerry Seinfeld weigh in that he thinks Roseanne shouldn't have been fired, but since she was, he thinks the character should be replaced with another comedian instead of killed off.

What a great idea! I can't believe I never thought of that. True, it would be a very tough sell, BUT if the actress was great enough and funny enough, with her own strong personality --- and CHEMISTRY with the cast, she might be able to pull it off!!! It's been done successfully before. Ashton Kutcher successfully replaced Charlie Sheen in 'Two and a Half Men.' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_and_a_Half_Men

I don't think a different actress will work. It has been only Roseanne for the entire show. I think the only way it will work is to kill off the character.

Show characters have been replaced many times before in various forms, and it usually didn't work out too well.

I don't see anybody taking on the Roseanne character, nor do they have room to add a cast member. I would think the Jackie character should be greatly expanded as they have a gem in Laurie Metcalf---winner of two Tony awards in a row---and frankly better than this sitcom deserves.

It could still be called The Conners with a different Roseanne. I don't think this is really such a bad idea. After all, they did replace Becky #1 with Becky #2, and the Darrens on Bewitched.

But the show wasn't called by the name Becky or Adam, I guess it's up to the cast etc..I'd always be comparing, and no way would another actress have the same chemistry RB had with Dan... I say, just let her go..

I think they should kill off her character. Too bad Allison Janney is already taken for "Mom." I would love for her to play the new woman in Dan Connors life (after a respectable mourning period, of course). I think she would fit in perfectly with the Connor gang.

If not Allison Janney, my second choice would be Rondi Reed. She's the woman who played Mike's mom Peggy on Mike and Molly. She's another blue collar-ish actress with impeccable comedic timing, and just like Allison Janney, she would blend right in with the Connor family. (I'm on a mission to find Dan a second wife).
