If not Allison Janney, my second choice would be Rondi Reed. She's the woman who played Mike's mom Peggy on Mike and Molly. She's another blue collar-ish actress with impeccable comedic timing, and just like Allison Janney, she would blend right in with the Connor family. (I'm on a mission to find Dan a second wife). You're funny. What would you think of Katey Sagal? I miss seeing her on my TV. I'm not real familiar with her, but I guess she could work well too.

I think she just looks too much older than Dan. He'll have to mourn for the next 10 episodes, so if the show survives after that, maybe Mom will have been cancelled, so Allison Janney would be available. What about Molly's "mom," Swoozie Kurtz (sp)? Tiny little woman would be a funny contrast to Roseanne.

If you Google Rondi Reed and see her without the Mike & Molly dowdy makeover, she looks a whole lot younger. Rondi Reed is actually younger than John Goodman, in fact. Swoosie Kurtz is 73. I do really like Swoosie, and if TPTB would be up for having Dan dating an older woman, I think she'd be a really good fit as well.
I also think Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope) would work well on "The Connors," but maybe as a neighbor. She's not much older than the actress who plays Becky so bringing her on board as a love interest for Dan could maybe make for some interesting storylines, but she'd be a really distance "maybe" as far as a love interest goes.
Whoever they pick-- IF they pick --it's going to have to be someone well respected in the business. Whether you love or hate Roseanne Barr, there's no denying she was a strong presence on that show, and so her replacement would have some pretty big shoes to fill.

This is kind of hilarious! It sounds like we're trying to fix up one of our guy friends! But I guess we've 'known' Dan long enough, and he's been in our living rooms often enough to be considered an old friend. . . Soooo, time to find him just the right match!!!

I've seen Rondi Reed on other shows, and she still looks too old for Dan. He really hasn't aged that much since the original show (a lot of men just don't seem to age as fast as women, darn them!), and I think actually looks better, probably because of the weight loss. Swoosie may be 73, but she's had work done and looks much younger. Check out actresses such as Cher and Goldie Hawn, both in their 70s, too!

I've never seen Rondi Reed and have no idea who she is. BUT from the Google pics, she looks like she'd fit right in as Dan's new girlfriend or wife. She even kinda looks like Roseanne. (And by the way, Rondi, John Goodman, and Roseanne were ALL born in 1952, so they're all the same age.)

Imperfect1 , the picture on the left is her true self. The picture on the right is how they make her up to look for Mike & Molly. The character she plays on that show is meant to be frumpy and insufferable yet, in spite of all her condescending comments, you just can't help but love her. She has this way of being insulting yet, not off-putting. That's a tough combination to pull off, but she does it really well.

That's exactly why I posted those 2 pics of Rondi Reed side by side. To show that she looks good enough to be a great substitute for Roseanne, whether she looks like her true self, or made up to be frumpy looking.

I would have liked to see that show go on a little longer. Molly was the least funny character on the show, imo.

I still have on my DVR the episode where Vince hurt his back and couldn't get out of the bathtub, so she had to lift him out and drag him naked to the sofa. She was hilarious! They both were!
That pic of Rondi Reed is so touched up it isn't funny. All actors' publicity photos are highly enhanced, especially women's, unfortunately. I've seen her on other TV shows, and she looks younger than when on M&M, but nothing like that photo. Susan Sarandon would make a good gf for Dan, if she wanted to do it.

Laurie Metcalf got an Emmy nomination for her Jackie role. So nice to see that Laurie Metcalf received an Emmy nomination. I'll be glad when 'Roseanne' is gone, and we can proceed with enjoying the new version of the show, without her! The ONLY things I'll miss from the original show are the opening credits (showing the family around the kitchen table) and her laugh.

I didn't see her performance as Emmy worthy. I love her, and all of her work, but where is the Emmy nod for her daughter and some of the other actors on Young Sheldon?

I thought the same when I saw her Emmy nom. It's not that she isn't a great actress, but she really didn't have that much to do on the show so far. It almost seems like a move to stick it to RB, like "See, you could have gotten a nomination if you hadn't been such an ass." Also agree about the actors on Young Sheldon, children and grownups alike! Annie Potts is outstanding as Meemaw.

I agree, that's probably one of the reasons why she DID get the Emmy nomination. I think we all pretty much know that all of these "awards" are campaigned for and/or pretty much based on reasons OTHER THAN the talent of the nominee. There are sooooo many super talented show biz folks who never get nominated, let alone win.

Quoting myself here. Roseanne's statement is now on her You Tube site. She's distraught. It's hard to watch.

As if she wouldn't have said that right away if it were true. She is totally off the rails!

She is totally off the rails! Not defending her and what she said at all, but she actually has been saying the "I thought she was white" defense from the beginning. I don't really believe her, but she has been saying it.

Unless she's seriously visually impaired, who would believe that she actually thought that was the case. Plus, it doesn't add to her credibility to refer to Jarrett as "the b**ch."

Like I said, I don't believe her, but it was one of the very first excuses she tweeted immediately after it happened.
The reason I remember is because it was such a ridiculous this to say.

She is totally off the rails! Whether Roseanne thought Valerie Jarrett was white, black, or purple makes NO DIFFERENCE. Her tweet was a vile slur against ALL Muslim people and ALL black people!!! If you remember, what she said was: “ muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj” That statement is a horrible, derogatory, vile, condemnation against ALL people in those categories, not just against ONE PERSON!!! (Note: I'm purposely saying "blacks" and not "African Americans because the reference to "apes" in this context is a horrible slur against all black people, whether from America or any other country.)

www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/john-goodman-defends-roseanne-barr-says-shes-going-through-hell/ar-BBMw0fy?ocid=spartanntpJohn Goodman Defends Roseanne Barr, Says She's 'Going Through Hell' John Goodman is opening up about Roseanne's abrupt cancellation in May, after star Roseanne Barr was fired due to a racist tweet against Valerie Jarrett, a former senior adviser to Barack Obama. In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the 66-year-old actor admits he was devastated at ABC's decision to cancel the highly rated show, and also became depressed. Goodman played Barr's on-screen husband, Dan Conner. “I was brokenhearted, but I thought, ‘OK, it’s just show business, I’m going to let it go,'" he recalls. "But I went through a period, about a month, where I was very depressed. I’m a depressive anyway, so any excuse that I can get to lower myself, I will. But that had a great deal to do with it, more than I wanted to admit.” He also defends Barr, revealing that the 65-year-old comedian had to give up her rights to the show so that its spinoff, The Connors, could go on without her. “I know, I know, for a fact that she’s not a racist," he says. “She had to sign a paper saying that she relinquished all her rights to the show so that we could go on," he adds. "I sent her an email and thanked her for that. I did not hear anything back, but she was going through hell at the time. And she's still going through hell."
hen asked about Barr getting fired, Goodman says he was "surprised" at the network's decision. “I was surprised. I’ll put it this way, I was surprised at the response," he says, before pausing. “And that’s probably all I should say about it.” But while Goodman defends Barr, he is hesitant when he's asked if the two are good friends. “We were work friends,” he says of their relationship. In May, Barr praised both Goodman and their co-star, Laurie Metcalf. "I just wish ABC had not thrown two of the greatest actors in the world out with me-Laurie and John," Barr tweeted. "I'm so sick over this -- they will never have better character actors on their network."
