Sorry to Bother You ended up being one weird movie! It started off normal enough but by the end, it made me wonder if whoever created it was on some heavy drugs when they wrote it. I thought it was ok to see once but I wouldn't want to see it again. Parts of it made me uncomfortable. It had a racist undertone which I didn't like. A lot of racial stereotypes and mimicking.

I just watched a movie from 2005 called "Ladies in Lavender." I loved it! Judi Dench and Maggie Smith as two elderly sisters. Not a lick of makeup on either one of them for most of the movie. Just a lovely story, and a great way to relax on a Sunday afternoon.

How It Ends on Netflix. What I thought would be an exciting apocalyptic tale with a good cast was sort of dull, with tons of unexplained stuff and a vague non-ending. Boo.

Equalizer II - First one was MUCH better. Still action packed but could see the twist a mile away. Denzel had an awesome scene about being a man and making choices. Highlight of the movie. Great actor no matter how good or bad the plot is.

I went to Hotel Transylvania 3 today. I hadn't seen the first two of the series. I liked it much better than the last movie I went to Sorry to Bother You! I often find animated movies to be dumb with juvenile humor but this had some really funny moments!

After reading the good reviews, I finally watched Tully this past weekend. I liked it but thought it was slow and wondered where it was going till BAM it made sense!

I went today to see the documentary Three Identical Strangers. It was fantastic and heartbreaking. It said so much to make people stop and think about the consequences of the many ways we dehumanize people. I highly recommend it.

The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) on Netflix.
" A 2017 American comedy-drama film directed and written by Noah Baumbach. The film stars Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Dustin Hoffman, Elizabeth Marvel and Emma Thompson, and follows a group of dysfunctional adult siblings trying to live in the shadow of their father." Wikipedia
Adam Sandler is surprisingly good in this role as half-brother to Ben Stiller. If you liked The Squid and The Whale and Frances Ha, both written and directed by Baumbach, you will like this movie. Hoffman was perfection as the narcissistic father.

It said so much to make people stop and think about the consequences of the many ways we dehumanize people. I highly recommend it. I haven't seen it yet but I remember when that story broke. One of the triplets, can't remember which one, grew up in the next town to my hometown. It was a huge story on Long Island but the happiness was short-lived for the triplets. The story got so dark when it turned out what the adoption agency was up to. I won't go into specifics so as not to spoil it for those who did not see the film. I have not seen it, as I said, but there were many news stories about what the agency had done. Very sad.

Saw Victoria and Abdul with Judi Dench tonight on HBO. Loved it. I knew hubs would hate it and within the first five minutes he was sound asleep on the couch.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom - filled with lots of action and some funny scenes but I found myself checking my watch several times. Ran kind of long and wasn't as good as the others. But Chris Pratt is nice to look at. And not to discriminate so is Bryce Howard.

Went to see Mamma Mia again . . . this time, with a couple of similarly aged women. Everyone in the theater felt like they'd seen it before, too. Lots of singing along . . . and even better the second time.
They showed the preview for "Girl in the Spider's Web" (sequel to "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo") with Claire Foy (Queen Elizabeth in the first two seasons of "The Crown"). Intense!!!

I have not seen the movie BUT I saw it many times on Broadway and that is what happens with the Broadway production. As the show is ending all the audience gets up and dances and dances as the show closes. ITS SO AWESOME. AND CLAIRE FOY!!!! When we saw Mission Impossible last week CF was in TWO previews back to back. AND two very different ROLES. The FIRST MAN with Ryan Gosling! That looks FABULOUS. Then we saw the GITSW and again there is CF and YES, AZChristian looks INTENSE! But awesome!

Went to see Christopher Robin over the weekend with the Grandson. After a good background on Christopher Robin & the Winnie The Pooh story & characters, it moved forward in time as Christopher grew up into an adult, with all the stresses of adulthood. That's where the movie turned into a downer for seemingly quite a while. In fact, I think the Grandson was about ready to call it a night. This was not the feel good children's story we expected. Right about this time it took another turn. Pooh & Friends bring the story back to life as they come back into Christopher's life. By the end we were watching excitedly. Very good and satisfying ending that left us smiling.

Just realized that "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" is coming out on Netflix TOMORROW. It was a wonderful book, and the trailer looks every bit as amazing. And there are at least 4 Downton Abbey alumnae in it.
Lily James has become one of my new favorite actresses.
ETA: We just finished watching the movie. I loved absolutely every minute of it. Casting was superb, scenery was just like what we saw when we visited Guernsey (although I read that it wasn't filmed there). Didn't think the movie could possible live up to my expectations and hopes, but it did . . . and far exceeded.

I went to see BlacKkKlansman today. It amazed me and I think it’s a cinematic masterpiece. It was perfect on all notes, from the writing to the casting to the use of the soundtrack. With all that as perfect as it was, I’d say that It is Spike Lee’s top directing achievement. I can’t say enough good about it. It’s just a masterpiece.

I watched Supersize Me last evening, compliments of my new Prime membership. Thoroughly enjoyed it but found myself developing indigestion in the course of the movie. Don't think I'll be going to McDonalds for a while.

I stopped eating their food after watching Supersize Me a few years ago. Gross. Watched Blockers last night - pretty funny. Lots of crude humor, but also a few sweet moments about growing up. Also saw Rampage - science gone wrong, mutant animals run amok. Totally silly action movie, I only watched for Dwayne Johnson and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. And the gorgeous Joe Manganiello showed up for about five minutes.

The leisure seeker.
Donald Sutherland and Helen Mirren play an elderly married couple. Fantastic acting...humorous, while also dealing with a difficult subject. A few twists I didn't expect...and a subject that many of us ignore till it's too late. We both laughed and we both teared up.

I had read the review when it first came out and had wanted to see it but never got around to it. I adore Helen Mirren but was wondering if it was a bit depressing due to the subject matter.

I had no idea he was an actor. I like Adam Driver; he has played many quirky parts. Our local newspaper had a retrospective of Spike Lee's career the other day and they raved about this new film. Is it odd that I have never seen any of his movies?

Is it odd that I have never seen any of his movies? Yes, John David Washington is the same son who played football at Morehouse and then was signed by the Rams. He’s also been acting for a while, and did small parts in some other Spike Lee films that starred Denzel. With regards to Spikes other films, I think he’s made the films he wants to make instead of trying to win a mainstream audience. It’s not that he doesn’t want mainstream, but won’t give up what he wants to say to achieve it. Honestly I think he’s done the same with this one ... but deserves a wide mainstream audience for it.
