93 Days on Amazon Prime. It is a fictionalized version of the Doctors, Nurses and Government Health workers who understood they had Ebola and kept it within the original group. It did not spread to the millions of residents of Lagos, Nigeria.
It is such a "if only" film regarding the U.S. response to the first cases of the Corona Virus.

Watched The Love Witch on Amazon Prime. If you're a fan of cult movies from the 60s with technicolor, plots that go nowhere and bad/over acting this is the movie for you! Even though it's a recent movie it's styled in that retro 60s way. It's about a modern-day witch who is looking for love...who isn't above killing when it goes awry. It's a lot of fun to watch.

I watched Becoming last night. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was a nice companion piece to the book and also caught so highlights of the book tour.

The Lighthouse: After watching this I'm very angry that once again Willen Dafoe was cheated out of awards and recognition this year because he is magnificent in this role. Robert Pattison as the co-lead keeps up with him acting-wise; he's come a long way since Twilight. Extremely atmospheric and shot entirely in black and white it's a study of two men who might not be entirely what they seem, isolation, and a slow decline into madness. I can understand why people are very polarized about this movie because it's extremely slow-paced, but when it gets strange it really, really goes there. It's by the same director as The VVitch, so if you didn't like that more than likely you won't like this either. A quietly beautiful, haunting film.

My grandmother raved and raved about The Unbearable Lightness of Being. She told my parents it was one of the best movies she'd ever seen. So they went to see it, and when they got home called her to ask why she'd sent them to see such a sexually explicit film!

That would be like me recommending In The Realm of the Senses to everyone here. It's an excellent cautionary tale about obsession but it's even more explicit than Unbearable, and not everyone wants to see that sort of thing!

I understand what you mean about those sorts of recommendations! That’s how I feel anytime I’m telling anyone what an incredible acting performance Michael Fassbender gave in Shame and I feel like I have to quickly follow that up with a reminder that for the majority of the film he DOES have pants on!

momrek06 - Jaws is one of those movies that I can quote entire blocks of dialogue. If I'm flipping around the channels and Jaws is on, I almost always stop for a few minutes of escapism. Kao - Loved Ted and Ted 2. Funniest thing in Ted 2 was seeing Michael Dorn dressed up as Worf at the comic con convention. Worf as Worf. Hysterical. I watched Matilda last night. Loved every minute of it. SO MANY Harry Potter touchpoints. It will be a new favorite.

Finally saw 1917. I had a hold on it at the library and we were closed for so long, but this week I got it. Wow, that was so good. It reminded me Saving Private Ryan in the scope of the epic feel as well as showing the horror of war. All those bodies! Certain scenes left me gasping. How did Parasite win over this?

We were not sure about seeing 1917 with so many movies to view before the OSCARS.
Then we saw it. We ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. The movie was FABULOUS. Right down to the soundtrack. OUTSTANDING.
We have not seen Parasite so I cannot compare. But all in all as I said 1917 was just so amazing a movie AND a TRUE STORY.

I liked Parasite a lot more. Upon a second watching I picked up all sorts of subtle details I missed in my first viewing.
1917 was good, but other than shooting the entire movie in one take it's really nothing that I haven't seen before. A war movie (WWI or WWII, pick one), white male protagonists, friendships, death, fighting a crafty enemy. No thanks; there's already a ton of these stories and movies. These days I prefer stories and experiences from people that really aren't shown in media, or that are shown differently than what stereotypes depict.

I thought Parasite was a screwball comedy, thin on story and very predictable. I'm glad I never paid to watch, it was free from the library

I get that everyone has their tastes... it just wasn't for us. Maybe one day, I will revisit it and maybe even like it. Yes, 1917 was "white men" but it was WWI and focused on the British. I was fine with that. I would also recommend All's Quiet on the Western Front. For me these two movies epitomize WWI. Maybe we can get other WWI movies about different experiences?

That would be very nice. A movie about the 1.3 million Indian soldiers who fought during WWI alongside the British would be very good since they weren't even mentioned in 1917.
Or a WWII movie that focuses on the Jewish Resistance members instead of the camps.

Demolition Man is on Hulu so I watched it last night. I had forgotten how much FUN that movie is! You could really tell everyone had a good time shooting it and I love Wesley Snipes in villian roles; he's ofte funny even when things are supposed to be serious. I love the three seashells, "Be Well!" catchphrase and everything in their future society, and whatever happened to Denis Leary? He's in it too.

Joker - Joaquin Phoenix crushed it, what a great movie. He absolutely deserved that Oscar.
Stuber - this was awful. I had to make myself sit and finish watching this mess.
The Hunt - gory, dark political satire, not for the easily offended. I liked it.

Aw, you guys. No love for Stuber!? I thought it was hilarious! In the same vein as Central Intelligence with The Rock and Kevin Hart (mismatched buddy comedy). Is it going to win ANY awards? Probably not, but I still enjoyed it. I like Dave Bautista and I'm a huge Kumail Nanjiani fan. It was just fun and silly and some of the action was hilarious.

Watched "The Farewell" on Amazon. When the Matriarch of a family is diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and is given months to live her entire family concocts a lie about her grandson getting married and fly in from all around the world to China so they can be with her one last time under that pretense. A really sweet, heartwarming movie that apparently the Academy didn't know what to do with around award time; while it's very much a Chinese-American story the bulk of it takes place in China and in Mandarin so they stuck it in the already heavily-loaded Foreign Film Category this year? This film deserves so much better. I especially loved the fact that it's based off a true story that was on NPR's This American Life.

Have you listened to the This American Life episode they based the movie on? It's even crazier than the movie!
I also liked the fact
{Spoiler} That's it's been 6 years after the events in the movie and Nai Nai is still with us. She has a cameo at the very end of the film.

Saw a delightful movie last night which I'd never heard of, "Forget Paris" , a 1995 film starring Billy Crystal and Debra Winger. Crystal penned the screenplay. Great cast including Joe Mantegna, John Spencer, Cathy Moriarty, Julie Kavner, Richard Mazur, and Cynthia Stevenson.
