Watched The Decendants today. There are a number of movies with this name out there, but I watched the one from I think, 2011 starring George Clooney that takes place in Hawaii. This was a good movie. I enjoyed it a lot. However, it was slow moving & the whole thing was kind of depressing. If you're looking for action or laugh-a-minute, then this one isn't for you. The Hawaiian scenery & ocean scenery were absolutely gorgeous as expected.
It was about a man (Clooney) whose wife was in a recent serious boating accident which left her in a coma. He also has big important family business to take care of involving 25,000 acres of valuable family land handed down through the generations that has to be sold or taken care of. Meanwhile he has to handle his disfunctional daughters & a slacker boyfriend/friend & the situation with their mother. Of course, there's lots of unexpected drama in both situations which ends up intersecting.
Under the circumstances, it had a satisfying, if not happy, ending. I liked the ending a lot. The acting was exceptionally good and convincing.

King Richard. I wasn't sure what to expect but with all the nominations and my love of tennis, I gave it a go. I really enjoyed it. Will Smith, who I am not a big fan of, was amazing.

As someone who has never read any Agatha Christie books nor watched any movies based on her works, I very much wanted to watch Murder On The Orient Express a few years back, but I ended up skipping it because during casual conversation, a friend completely spoiled the final act for me despite me having told him one minute earlier that I was unfamiliar with the story. Yeah... So I just came home from watching Death On The Nile. A good story, good acting, good setting, an intriguing mystery, and while I didn't catch on to all the clues, I did manage to deduce whodunnit and why, and it felt really good. I really enjoyed this movie and I'd definitely watch it again. LOVED IT!!! rembrant....ME TOO, now that I know everything I also want to watch it again. I had no idea who was in it and I found myself staring at the Doctor until it hit me.....RUSSELL BRAND. Yikes, I have not seen him in ages. He looks AWESOME. And he did a fantastic acting job as the MD. Great cast, great storyline, great scenery.

I saw Death On The Nile today. Kenneth Branagh is always good. It's really good. And now I am torn...who is the most gorgeous woman in the movies, Gal Gadot or Charlize Theron?

Watched Uncut Gems and wow, I did NOT expect that ending! It was tense movie with everyone at 30 and I needed them around 10 so it was somewhat stressful to watch.

The story and characters and cast and the setting, all great, and what a good mystery too. And I too was surprised at Russell Brand, never would have imagined that he could pull off dramatic acting chops. I hope he gets to showcase in more movies how good he is outside of comedy, because he was quite good here.

Nightmare Alley - excellent cast and cinematography, but I was really impressed by Bradley Cooper in this one. I saw it in the theater & really enjoyed it. From what I heard, they are now offering up a Black & White version to take advantage of the Film Noir feel of the movie.

I went to see Blacklight today. It is a pretty typical Liam Neeson beat up the bad guys kind of movie. If you like those types of movie, you'll like this. I enjoyed it.

Started to watch The King's Man on HBO. Lasted 20 minutes. Couldn't figure out if it was a satire of the first two Kingsmen films (which I loved), or was it just really as bad as the first 20 minutes showed? Even Ralph Fiennes couldn't rescue this mess.

I watched it last night and it was not a good sign that I nodded off in the middle of it. It was nice to see the origins of Kingsman but IMO both Djimon and Ralph were wasted in this.

I am another who turned it off half way through. I was hoping for more, as well.
I don't get HBO but it is also playing on HuLu. I was so looking forward to it and so disappointed.

Free Guy: I wouldn't say that I'm a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds (unfortunately I hear Pikachu whenever he opens his mouth) but he is perfect in the role of Guy, the NPC that could. It's just a lovely, feel-good film and if you're a gamer you'll like all the gaming references. Best of all, it's on both Disney+ and HBOMax now.

I have a friend who really liked it, so I put a hold on it at the library, because I trust her judgement, even though I know the reviews were poor. Last night I happened upon Shazam on demand. I forgot I saw it until my husband reminded me. I must have been half asleep because I remember very little of it. I enjoyed it this time around. I always love movies where the kids are the "heroes".

Watched Pixar's Soul and loved everything about it from the jazz to its depictions of NYC and the different dimensions of What Comes After and Before. A quiet, beautiful film and one of Pixar's more adult offerings.

We watched ALIEN!!! (on Showtime)

I remember the ALIEN ENCOUNTER ride at WDW that was based on this movie. But that was years ago. It is no longer there.
Very very good movie.

Watched West Side Story today on Disney+.
Very enjoyable. I remember the original & the songs, way better than I thought I did. I was darned near singing along.
There were a few changes made, but nothing that changed the story. A few to the story & characters & a few to the songs. The only one that disappointed me was America. The changes took away the bite & sarcasm of the song. I think they were afraid of not being politically correct, but the song is supposed to be sarcastic & biting to both countries. The changes took that away. A few songs were also way too dated in the 50's and it showed. They came across corny now.
Other than that, I loved the casting, the acting, the memories of it, the dancing, etc. Most of all I loved Rita Moreno. I loved how they fit a character in for her & made her important to the movie.

I'm home sick and staying in bed. I had the movie Redeeming Love. Yes, it is a faith film but I love the book and read it several times. I really enjoyed the movie. They didn't shy away from the dark themes of the book at all.

I just watched CODA. It's not a perfect movie, sometimes it gets a little Lifetime TV, but the actors are phenomenal. {CODA Spoiler}When Ruby started signing while singing Both Sides Now at her audition, I lost it. And I'm an ugly crier, lol.

I did an overnight Oscar binge...
After watching CODA (previous post), I watched The Tragedy of Macbeth with Denzel Washington and Frances MacDormand. They were both kickass in their roles, and the film is artfully done in black & white, in 4x3 aspect ratio, with mostly CGI environments. All of this was done perfectly to enhance the storytelling.
After that I watched The Power of the Dog on Netflix. The acting was great given the script -- it's a Western that turns into something else by the end. They sure didn't hold back on the animal gore in the Western part, but then they sure held back when it came to the "different" parts. It was interesting, but I didn't buy everything they were selling. I guess everyone else appreciated the subtlety of the second half more than I did.

We watched CODA last night and while I loved it I have so many questions. I wonder why the family did not learn to lip read? That would have freed Ruby from having to be with them 24/7. What did they do when Ruby was in elementary school? How were they able to fish and work without her there signing? I hated all the bullying from the students to Ruby. Her parents had a disability and she gets bullied...... I loved her relationship with Mr. V. Her parents appeared to be very selfish as they were very annoyed with Ruby waited to go to college trying to further her education. I loved the relationship with her brother, some days were horrible and other days were so loving. Getting up at 3AM every morning to help her parents.......ouch. I wonder why the Dad could drive a car but not be allowed to fish without an interpreter ....there are so many noises he could miss driving. All in all a great movie.

If you have Hulu, there is a pretty cool documentary about author Kurt Vonnegut called Unstuck In Time. Great show especially if you like the author.

Speaking of documentaries on Hulu. If you haven't seen Summer Of Soul, you need to. It is brilliant with tons of great music & live performances you will be amazed at. Run, don't walk.
